Presto Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 I'm probably going to be playing this on the console until the pc version has a few streamlines and graphical edits. After further reviewing the specs my gaming laptop won't be able to play it as smoothly as I'd like. I can manage the game but it'll look better on the console. I'll pick up the pc copy in a few months on sale and dive into the mods then.
Mordyn Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 Hope Nvidia/ATI will update their drivers to optimize the game support, like they've done before for Oblivion. And hope that Skyrim will not be another GTA4, whith an hardware from Mars to make it beautiful...
Cjvs Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 I'm envious of you people. having good pc's i can't afford a new one. hell my pc can barely run oblivion on low-medium settings. but eh maybe in the future. I'll be sticking with my normal plan. skyyrim = 360 first. after a year maybe a new comp then ill just download it cause everyone knows itll be put up for a full download in the future. :/

Though I'd expect that the 275.33's will work just fine in anycase.

If you have a system capable of SLI, you might want to consider putting that extra 9800 to use as a dedicated physics card.
Dee383 Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 My Pc Has Run Every Game Ive Bought So Far Even Crysis With DX10 On Maximum Never Had Any Problems . So As Far As Im Concerned I Will See How Skyrim Performs And Tweak Accordingly ...
Mashi Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 soooo....9400gt anyone? Midrange, should be just fine. You do have at least a dual core processor of some kind right? If you do, no problem.
marrow12 Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 Yeah I've got an Amd X2 240,2.8ghz,running the game at low- medium would be just fine for me.
koocamunga Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 got a question, i'm not too knowledgeable about comp specs and cards, but i would like to ask how my current setup is compared to the req. specs for skyrim. Processor: AMD Phenom 9500 2.2 quadcore GFX: ATI Radeon HD4350 (1gig card i added myself) 2 gigs DDR ram (i know i need more and will be getting it soon) sound: ?!? OS: Vista (cringe) I run oblivion with 15-30 fps outdoors, 20-45 in some cells with max settings and resolution, minus max tree fade which i set to 30 cuz Unique Landscapes rapes framerate in forest areas. If I can't run skyrim with a decent framerate i would like to know what i can to do better my system. My comp is a Gateway GT5658E.
sora3 Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 @ koocamunga, here's my take on it. Processor: Fine. You don't need to upgrade. But if it was me, I would upgrade to a new Phenom II X4 955 BE as these are pretty cheap these days. GFX: Definitely won't cut it. You'll definitely need to upgrade to have any decent details, let alone the resolution. A cheap upgrade would be either an AMD HD Radeon 6770 OR nVidia GTX560. Both cards will do a decent job in the graphics until your next Elder Scrolls game. RAM: Decent but definitely get another 2GB in there. Sound: (I'm guessing it is onboard) Decent. It'll do a great job regardless. OS: Vista is okay but I'll definitely change that to Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit soon. Plus Windows 7 is a better OS in terms of use and usability.
Triratna Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 How about NVIDIA 9600GT? is that good enough?

Mashi Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 How about NVIDIA 9600GT? is that good enough? Should be okay in prolly med-low, or medium. Seems that the engine is supposed to be rather forgiving on the previous generation of videocards. One thing I'll tell most people, is if you have a previous generation ati/nvidia card consider picking up a 450 or 6670 soon. The prices on them are falling through the floor and depending on the manufacture, you can buy one as cheaply as $70cdn(around $72US) in 768mb flavors.
afa Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 I have seen 550Ti going for $100 twice in the past month. I think that's a pretty good minimal entry point for gaming card now a days. Almost wanted to pick it up, but planning to build a pc soon, so didn't bother. The AMD 6770 and 6790 should be around the same price as well, but their prices don't seems to be dropping as aggressively. With Black Friday coming up the lower end stuff should get some great discount. I just hope there'll be Skyrim benchmarks out before Black Friday hits...so I can pick my parts accordingly.

Dee383 Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 How about NVIDIA 9600GT? is that good enough? Welll If The 9600GT Will Run It My 9800GT Should , I Will Not Upgrade A PC Just To Run A Certain Game ...
Mashi Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 Well I'll see... I've never been convinced by physx. Really comes down to how much gruntwork is needed to handle the physics. Until we get the game in our cold, cold hands we can't way one way or the other how much dedicated processing power it'll need.
Dreamer102 Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 I don't believe those hardware requirements!! They lied for oblivion, I'm sure they'll do the same thing for Skyrim. I pretty much built a new Pc based on their "High-End" recommendations back when Oblivion came out. Could I run it after spending close to a grand on a newly built pc? NOPE! Stupid crap still ran at -15FPS on high settings and I had to re-upgrade to an even more expensive video card just to be able to run it on medium. I'm still stuck at that level to this day even though I can run frickin GTA4 flawlessly. I will buy the game after everyone on here has played, reviewed and made recommendations on it.
2pac4eva7 Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 i have an ati radeon hd 4850 1gb? think that will be enough?
gregathit Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 Depending on the rest of your system (RAM, CPU, OS) I would think so. Hell, if a crappy console can run the thing we should be able to..... ....fingers crossed......
Iatrolia Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 say..in 3 days anyway i currently have this http://www.asus.com/Notebooks/Gaming_Powerhouse/G74SX/ ,will skyrim put a heavy toll on my laptop? i had an old asus gaming notebook b4 this one, and oblivion work it up to 95 Celsius CONSTANTLY, which really scare the crap out of me. This one's got a huge fan tho
mezzoforte Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 I'm planning on getting a Phenom II x4 955 and 8gb of RAM for Skyrim. I'm undecided on a GPU... DO you guys think an HD6850 will be enough to run the game at high - max settings, especially when the mods start pouring in? Or will I really have to go for an HD6950? I ask cause even though I'm running an HD5750 Oblivion lags like hell with all the add ons +SSO :\
