Guest Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 [...] I have played video games as long as I can remember ,not once have I thought , "gee I should murder people". [...] Really?! Odd.. because that thought crosses my mind all the time.. when I am in a super market, talking to a person from my bank.. no, seriously.. and I think, playing Sim City for too long when I was a child made me that way. I bet you know that moment when you are so fed up with everything that you just start throwing disaster, after disaster at your people.. not giving a fuck. Or is that just me? ..
leddis3 Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Arguably the most vicious thing I've done in a videogame is play a serial killer in the Sims 3 who invited people over her house and locked them in the basement till they died. Good clean fun!

Good clean fun! Over my gaming history I think that I murdered/killed at last milion lifes. Not counting, big shemes like using nukes or grand scale eradication in master of orion style.

Good clean fun! You think that's crazy?, I'm so addicted to fallout games, that every time i go to check the time or to listen to my ipod i put my Wrist up to my face like a Pipboy was on my arm. And I'm getting two tattoo's one fallout inspired and one that says "You're name"

Gotta love dem bio weapons. Because hey, annihilation by mass driver or fusion bomb, perfectly fine. Bio weapon? YOU FIEND EVERYONE HATES YOU.

I don't know. Counting all of the people I've killed in Sins of a Solar Empire or Star Wars:Rebellion, I've killed trillions. Not a murderer though. Can't say I've played the part of a murderer in a video game. An assassin yes, not a murderer. edit: On topic: Video games can be harmful to children just like mature novels or R-rated movies. Video games are probably more harmful than movies, which in turn are probably more harmful than books. However, it's just good parenting and upbringing that solves these problems. Teach the kid values, morals, and ethics, and they'll know how to separate fantasy from reality.

leddis3 Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Well, it's more impersonal. When was the last time you saw one of these self-appointed moral guardians going after Civilization because it might produce the next Hitler? Oh yeah, because it's not as easy to target as a game where you blow someone's head off with a shotgun, even though the arguments are equally ridiculous.
Something Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Well let's not forget Pokemon produces animal abusers
leddis3 Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 Well let's not forget Pokemon produces animal abusers PETA actually did go after Pokemon for a while... several years after the peak of it's popularity because, you know, logic. Of course they don't seem to go after games like this: which has to be one of the most ridiculous games I've ever seen. It's not even a hunting simulator, it's an animal genocide simulator where the concept of self-preservation for animals does not exist. Don't get me wrong if someone actually has fun playing that, knock yourself out but it would be nice if PETA at least pretended to actually care about their cause (while killing more animals than they save, but that's a whole other topic).
Monsto Brukes Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 Tea Party (the far right) claims government has too much influence. Occupy Wall Street (the far left) claims that corporations have too much influence. The reality is that individuals in Gov't set up the rules so that individuals in Corps can profit from and kickback to individuals in Gov't to set up the rules . . . ad nauseum. There are countless stories of congressmen who get elected on a nothing budget based mostly on donations and 2 terms later they are millionaires. This guy is just another talking head that's saying what he can to support the gun lobby so that they will throw him $1000/plate luncheon for his campaign.
LordJerle Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 If video games made me want to hurt people, then all the porn on my computer should turn me into a crazed sex maniac... I need more porn.
Katsoro Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 Saying that playing video games makes people turn into killers/repasts/ect is ridiculous because no matter how real it looks it's still just pixels and most people don't mix up pixels and real life. Like me for example, I play Oblivion, Skyrim, Rome/Medieval total war and have killed about one hundred thousand people/animals in them and not cared however, I once shot a rock squirrel and felt guilty about it because it was a real animal not a bunch of pixels. I also look at/watch tons of porn and even turned Oblivion and Skyrim into porn games yet I would still not rap someone even if my life counted on it. Also guns to NOT turn people into killers or increase crime rate. In fact if anything guns do more to LOWER crime rate then anything (think about it, are you/anyone really going to rob or rap a girl if shes carrying a 45 magnum and that man walking over there also has one?). Fact is more people are killed in Chicago each year (most by knives) then where killed by all the outlaws in the "Willied west" put together even tho everyone and there ant had a gun of some kind or the other back then (what kind of moron would move out wast and not have a gun?). Also look at Switzerland it has one of the lowest crime rates in the world even tho all men have MILITARY grade weapons (because all males have to serve as Malta). So no, guns and video games to not increase crime rate and nether are inherently evil (Guns do not kill people, other people do. Video games do not make people kill, if someone wants to kill they will do it with or without playing a video game). Thats what I know about the subject. PS. Just because I believe there is nothing wrong with having guns and that having guns is a good idea I do not think guns should be sold to miners/people with long criminal records or carzy people. In short I am all for legal guns but not for legal guns.

In short I am all for legal guns but not for legal guns. The argument is really simple. Was there more, less, or about the same level of violence before video games? Considering that video games are fairly recent, but violence has existed throughout human history, I think the answer to that question is rather simple. On that note: I think it's extremely easy to prove that historically religion and greed has been the source of much much much more violence. Yet we see no motions to ban religion for any of it's crimes and corporate greed runs rampant.
polluxval Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 they are not. cocodriles in the other hand... damn, i hate those bastards.
quin666 Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 Video games can be very harmful to morons don't know any better. Mmorpgs good example what could happen if get too absorb into fantasy theme. People commit suicide over items. Kill online friends over stupid stuff. Kill family members just because can't play mmorpg. Surprise mmorpgs not on list because can do a lot damage. LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

Back when the Pokemon trading card game was very popular, there were a few cases of people getting stabbed over a card. A woman cut her husband's penis off and threw it in the garbage disposal because he wanted a divorce. There's a man somewhere in Germany who reportedly up an ad asking for someone to let him eat them. Some morons answered that ad (Link) People are idiots and people are violent. They don't need video games for this. They were this way long before video games.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL That video, is more fake than Pamela Anderson's tits . Think fake or funny but not looking at video like Senator. To Senator just more ammunition add to topic. Games are double edge sword that all I was pointing out. I'm mad just like everybody but have except consequences come from games. Problem is developers not standing up for games they produce. They should be on frontline calling out BS instead staying quiet. Krishnan try his best connect any real life violence to movie but he was shutdown. Quentin Tarantino handle this situation a lot better than gaming industry..
ChancellorKremlin Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 I'll second that CK, no matter how that fool tried to bait him he shut him down LOL. Thanks to quin666 for posting that, I had not seen that one. My nephew saw the movie Django and loved it, I have yet to see it. Yeah, he's shrewd and to the point. Django is amazing, not sure if its better than Inglorious Basterds, but its right up there with it.
HentaiGnome Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 Videogames are only harmful if you're prone to getting influenced and/or you can't distinguish reality from fantasy. Otherwise, videogames are just like any other form of entertainment and should be treated as such.

If you're prone to getting influenced and video games didn't exist, then religion or something else would fill the void. Just like it always has.
Guest Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 Can video games get people angry? Absolutely. For example I rage all the time when I try to play console FPSs (mainly because they're all shitty games but still). Do video games tempt people to go on murder rampages? Absolutely not. Do they "incite" people to commit violent acts on others? No. Do video games "de-sensitize" people from violence? No, maybe "fantasy violence" but not real violence.
Emily Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 it a waste of time. stop playing. read books. make loves. spent more times with your family. Start your business plan early. do exercise. do the chores. ... Just kidding, who needs life anyway.
