Anon989 Posted August 1, 2013 Author Posted August 1, 2013 Looks good, shoulder swapping is always one of those things we always want but its not available in most games. Yeah not sure why that is...especially when it helps so much sometimes. Update July 31rst: Nothing to report on my end besides the fact that tomorrow will be the first time this week that I get some time to myself, so hopefully I can get to work again. Camera wise, the spectator/look at yourself cam is almost done, just needs the zoom and it'll be ready for showing. After that he'll be adding a camera smoothing effect to the shoulder camera swap just to ease it in and out. Once that's done the camera will be complete, so hooray for that getting finished soon Also again no bio this week, I've been too busy
Serpentus Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 You're doing an amazing job, Wisdomcube Keep it up!
Anon989 Posted August 6, 2013 Author Posted August 6, 2013 Update August 5th: Good(ish) news and bad news, Bad news first, I haven't had much of free time lately so work on the model has been minimal. Balancing work/GF/puppy has been keeping me too busy lol. Good/kinda bad news, Camera only needs the zoom and it'll be done. Downside is that for it to work he has to go back and tweak how the camera works a little bit. Soo expect that soonish, depending on when he gets time to work. Good News Bio is back on for this week, after skipping the last two.
Anon989 Posted August 8, 2013 Author Posted August 8, 2013 Thursday for the bio, I lost track of time and ended up playing Gary's Mod with some friends for over an hour lol. On a side note, the GMTower map/server is awesome. Worth trying if you have all the games it needs.
Anon989 Posted August 10, 2013 Author Posted August 10, 2013 Update August 9th: Bio is up on the blog, posted it late this morning as I had some puppy issues to tend to again Thursday night (This little bastard is killing my free time, but it's so adorable lol...). Bio Link: http://outbreakgame.blogspot.com/2013/08/robert-isis.html?zx=deb9d34c1e017ae9 Coding wise, he's about half way through retooling the camera so hopefully this Sunday, when we get some time to work on it again, we can finally get that finished or at least near finished.
Anon989 Posted August 12, 2013 Author Posted August 12, 2013 Update August 11th: Up for a little reverse this time, I actually got stuff done for once lol. Body Model wise, I got the nails done finally, though I forgot I still need to do the mouth, teeth, and tongue as well. Still hooray for being almost done! Also got the smart vision effect just about done so I'll add some pictures of it in action on one of the stock udk maps. Now I can check off both the night vision and the smart vision modes. Still figuring out how to do the thermal vision, but I'll get it eventually lol. Coding wise, nothing new to report as he had to go to a family dinner party or something, so we'll try to get back to it sometime tomorrow.
Anon989 Posted August 12, 2013 Author Posted August 12, 2013 Minor issue I was wondering if you guys could help me with. This game needs a theme song I can play at the menu screen. I've been looking through songs, but I'm curious if any of you would like to help me with it? Here's some royalty free sites I've been looking at if you guys need some places to start: http://audiojungle.net/ http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/ But yeah if you guys can find anything you think would fit well with the darker themes going on in the game, feel free to link it so I can take a look at it Though if not, I'm sure I'll find something eventually lol.
WiseSomewhere Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 I browsed a bit through audiojungle.net. Found a few that "might" fit well. Unknown Land The Edge Of The Universe Fear Factory Destroyed City Dark Intro - Rising

Certainly looks high tech and very much of an upgrade over whatever night vision will look like, and I think that it obscures enough of the details of the world to make it interesting should you encounter a monster with it turned on. Though you will see it, you might not be able to make out every detail of exactly what it is, or is capable of. This is a good thing of course. I'll look around and see if I find any decent tracks, though I have no idea exactly what "feel" you are going for. Edit: oh, this one sounds nice. http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html?isrc=USUAN1100587 Edit 2: And I will always prefer incompetech. Why? Because they have ELECTRODOODLE! *dances* It's pretty much the perfect "building montage" song.

Anon989 Posted August 13, 2013 Author Posted August 13, 2013 Damn, thanks for the fast help guys I'll go through them all later tonight and see if I can find one I like. Oh btw mouth is just about done already, I actually had time to work on it since the puppy is getting a bit more under control. Pic below, Might be too much detail but if it is, I can bring it down fairly quickly. Also expect a possible coding update today as well depending on how things go later.
Anon989 Posted August 15, 2013 Author Posted August 15, 2013 "I'll look around and see if I find any decent tracks, though I have no idea exactly what "feel" you are going for." Hmm basically I need something on the scarier side, and given the nature of the game I was looking for something darker or more ominous, kinda unsettling/mysterious or showing a bit a fear? Hard to explain music in words here so I apologize if this sounds too confusing lol. But again, thanks for the input so far, and please keep a lookout for anything good though for me will ya? btw Bio will be up tomorrow rather then today, I've got late night puppy duties again :/

Anon989 Posted August 16, 2013 Author Posted August 16, 2013 Update August 16th: New bio is up, took me a bit longer than I liked to write it, but oh well, I enjoy doing them http://outbreakgame.blogspot.com/2013/08/character-bio-part-13-name-morgan-black.html Also started banging out the menu again, got a really simple/placeholder one working atm. Still need to do the options menu for it though so people can change the resolution and such. Oh and I tried doing a cheaper method for the rain so I could actually use it in game, and I almost got that done as well. Just need to redo the water splashes/collisions and it'll be good to go. Modeling wise, I've been reading up on doing hair in zbrush, and I think I may have found the best way to get the results I need, just need to try it now and see how it turns out. That said, I still need to attach the mouth, and fix up a spot on the toe nails that was bothering me, and then I'll slap a simple body texture on it (Just for the time being) and start getting it ready for importing into the udk so I can finally see how she looks in engine
Anon989 Posted August 17, 2013 Author Posted August 17, 2013 Question, was messing with the smart vision effect, and thought it was lacking a bit of uhmm...flavor? to it. So I colored it a bit differently, let me know if you think it's better or worse than the last version I made a few posts back from this one. Oh, and Ill be back to modeling in a lil bit, just need to wait for someone to take the puppy watch for me so I don't have to worry about it devouring the house while I'm distracted lol.
Nonsense667 Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 Hmmmm. I dunno. I kinda like the original's "The cold touch of technology" feel. The new, bluer look has a more friendly "you are the good guy, kill the bad guys!" feel, and in this game I'm not sure if that's what you are going for. As always, just my two cents.

That's true, I'll leave it grayish for the time being then Sometimes my need to constantly tweak things can get in the way of keeping things the right way lol. btw quick update for you guys: Finally started doing proper write-ups/listings for all the guns and Infected enemies. We also worked out how we wanted to do the item crafting as well (More on that tomorrow tho). And I think I found a cool/possible theme song for the game as well! Check it out and let me know what you guys think... http://audiojungle.net/item/broken-viola/42932?WT.ac=search_item&WT.seg_1=search_item&WT.z_author=mich1s
Nonsense667 Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 Hmmmm. I can see how it would be one that you preferred, easily. No worries if it's the one you choose. For me, it is a little too busy in some places, and I don't like how "harsh" it sounds. Urg, can't really describe it. None of it sounds "smooth," and after listening to it for a bit, I feel it would irritate my ears. But again, that's just me. Also, I'm a cheap ass and if I'm understanding things correctly, the ones from incomptech are free so long as you give credit, where you have to pay 17 bucks from the audio jungle one... so... XD But up to you. Edit: To further elaborate, I feel it might be the wooden percussion instrument it is using that is making it sound too busy. I'm not sure. And who knows, it may be the anti-piracy measure they put into the music that is irritating me, not the sound of the actual music itself. Who knows. Edit 2: To elaborate on "harsh." I really don't feel that a "harsh" feel in music is necessary in order to create negative feelings in the music, something scary, dark, and unsettling. In fact, similar to the blue filter, I feel that the harsh music makes it very black and white. "It's bad, period." Where if the music is softer, smoother, and has that trace of beauty to it, it can become even more unsettling, creeping into your skin with it's seductive sounds. Or maybe I'm just over thinking it, hah. It's up to you to decide. Edit 3: I'm a huge fan of the violin/strings. Can work wonders. <3 Edit 4: And I'm excited to see what enemies made it to the game so far.

I'll keep looking and see if I can find something better, though if not, it's always nice to have something to fall back on Still if anyone has any more song suggestions feel free to drop a link or two in here and I'll take a look at 'em. But moving on, I messed with my own custom materials in zbrush the other day, and thanks to a friend of mine providing a link to a great zbrush artist, I have new skin mat that is pretty damn nice. So I figured I'd show that off here, since I haven't been posting model pics in a while now. I made a bunch of changes to it, though most are probably too subtle to really notice. Though you may notice that I up sized the butt a bit from before. Also cleaned up the face a ton, due to all the glitches zbrush created, so that's looking presentable again. But anyway, I got some minor tweaks to make now to attach the mouth stuff, so I'll get started on that and maybe post some pics later when I'm done. Though I might delay that a bit so I can do a better texture for the eye, and fix a minor clipping oops I missed, that I noticed just now looking at the pics I posted. edit no bio today this week, I want to use that time to get all the weapon pages up, and do some more of the infected page as well.
Anon989 Posted August 20, 2013 Author Posted August 20, 2013 Update August 20th: Trying to get some tips for a few model issues I was having, and while I was waiting for that, my friend wanted me to do a hud design for him so he can have that ready for when he finishes the camera stuff. So I'm about half way through that now, and will likely finish that up tomorrow if I have the time. Btw at his request, the hud is going to be nothing too fancy, so don't set the bar for it too high lol.
Anon989 Posted August 21, 2013 Author Posted August 21, 2013 Update August 20th: Tossed the HuD design I made, didn't like it too much when it was finished I'll keep at it though lol. Moving on, I got a ton of the weapon pages up with all the details and such that I could write atm. It doesn't list individual guns, but it gives you enough of an idea to imagine what may come later on. Also coding wise, my friends been busy lately, but I'll try to convince him to get on it when he gets the chance. Here's a link to an index of the weapon stuff: http://outbreakgame.blogspot.com/2013/06/weapons.html Crafting stuff is coming up tomorrow, but I figured I'd take a more in depth approach to explaining that, so I'll post on the blog covering all the details of that and the process we went through to get to what we eventually settled on.
Gᴀʟᴠᴀɴɪᴢᴇ Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 This is pretty awesome, I am so excited to see the final result to be honest... Great work Wisdom, but I have a question, how long have you been working on this thus far?
Anon989 Posted August 22, 2013 Author Posted August 22, 2013 This is pretty awesome, I am so excited to see the final result to be honest... Great work Wisdom, but I have a question, how long have you been working on this thus far? A few months I think, maybe a few more? Though to be honest, actual time spent working on the project is probably nowhere near as much as that, though I try to get work in when I can in between work and family stuff. If I could work full time on this, I totally would, but until I get something playable and donations kick up, this will remain as a side project for my spare time. Also understand, that aside from the coding, all work is being handled by yours truly, so I apologize if progress seems slow. I'm just one guy trying to learn like 100 things at once lol. It's fun sure, but also very challenging at times, so pacing has become very key to me. As I would hate to burn out before I can get past some of the major milestones I've set for myself and this project. Moving on, the crafting stuff I mentioned before is up on the blog, it goes a bit in depth into our thought process on it as well as our overall approach to it. The actual Crafting System will be posted tomorrow on here though, so this is more of a behind the scenes type post. Hope you like it http://outbreakgame.blogspot.com/2013/08/crafting-101ish.html
Anon989 Posted August 23, 2013 Author Posted August 23, 2013 Crafting System There will be a few types of primary resources, as I mentioned in the blog post above this. They are: Scrap Medical Supplies Salvage Herbs These will serve as the foundation for most crafting recipes. Along side these will be other items as well that are used to complete the more unique recipes. For example a Element Zero upgrade would require an Element Zero Canister. This however brings us to the next section that focuses a bit more on the weapon crafting parts. All weapon augments will be made using scrap and salvage, once made for a weapon it can then have 2 additional augments used alongside it. Each weapon has three upgrade slots, the sight (aka red dot, acog, etc...), the element (fire, electricity, and element zero), and a general upgrade slot to increase the damage, range, magazine size, or fire rate. Note* Armor won't be upgradable like the weapons. The final parts of crafting will focus on the larger Construction side of things. There are four major resources: Food Construction Materials Fuel Heavy Materials These are all needed for base upgrades in the campaign (aside from Heavy Materials), though I'll cover these later tomorrow or Saturday if I get the time. As I really need to set aside a good amount of time to discuss the campaign properly since it's has grown a bit in it's setup, and it's been a while since we last touched on that topic anyway lol.
