Good News, he's going to have some more free time coming up as his work is finally all caught up. So there's that, but he mentioned his interest in less HuD still which I'm hoping a certain theory of mine proves possible, because IF it works, I could eliminate a ton of the HuD bars/etc (if not all of it). I'm still looking into it though, so I'll keep you guys posted if I find anything, if this fails though I'm just sticking with what I have and being done with it for a while (I'm really getting tired of it lol). Anyways, onto that question I mentioned. This one is a controls based one for the 360 controller. So as it is right now, up/down on the d-pad cycle through your RB or quick use items, and left/right on the d-pad cycle through your weapons. He had a few notes about this setup though: While it allowed control forwards and backwards when cycling through your items, this might be a problem later on if you have a larger number of items at your disposal. He suggested that we use the up/right/left d-pad for specific items that you equip, and down for cycling your weapons (Since the max equipped weapons will likely be only 3, so if you skip past the weapon you wanted, it won't be such a setback when you only have to tap twice to get back to it. The upside of this is that it makes things a bit simpler and easier for whoever is playing since it's so quick and to the point. Downside being that there's only 3 equipped items, though honestly that might still be enough. But yeah any suggestions/preferences?
Guncher Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 I don't mind the idea of having equipped items on the D-Pad at all. As long as it's fairly easy to switch what you have equipped while in the heat of things. Are you going for a paused menu or real-time menu system?

Hey sorry about the slow reply, I've been a bit busy lately, and to round it all off, my email has been getting plaster by members of some group/site (or something, idk) that are requesting I stop working on this in some of the most hate filled rants I've ever seen . So needless to say, that kinda put me off working on this for a bit, but whatever lol, I'll just keep deleting/blocking their emails I guess. Back to the question though, yeah I was aiming for Dead Space style inventory for it since it would need to work with the multiplayer setup we have in mind for the game. Pausing the game constantly for other players could get really annoying lol.

Like, when you go to switch the equipped items, you get a ~40-50% (~20% in multiplayer) slowdown for a few seconds, giving you time to slot the new equips.

They are very much against rape + sexual violence towards women, and are calling me just about every insult they can think of. It's just rude, and now time consuming each time I have to sift through my email inbox. Hopefully they run out of new emails to use as I've already block like 8 or 9 now lol. It's just a game, and I have no intention of advocating rape in real life, these people need to learn that games do NOT = real life. Also thx for the compliment . Yeah I think slowing/pausing the game down while in solo could be done, but in a multiplayer match I really don't think it'll work too well. God only knows how annoying griefers could be with that kind of power lol.

I'm really really excited for this game and my only regret is that you're latest stuff is menus instead of something more exciting. I get giddy just thinking about the game. Edit: Post some of the choicier rants you got, ones that are particularly vulgar, hateful etc so we can pick it apart!

Yeah, glad to see I'm not alone for thinking this way, and yeah sorry about all the menu/HuD stuff lately, it's not a really exciting part to see, but they need to work well to ensure that they don't become a annoyance later on. Will be getting to much more fun things though after the HuD/Inventory stuff is finally done art wise. Also I'd rather not post those and turn this into anything mean spirited against them. We all have our own opinions/beliefs, and I support their right to express their feelings, though I just wish they would have done so in a more polite/respectful manner. Not gameplay video? I'm assuming you meant *no gameplay video? If so then no there really isn't one yet, at least not until I get all the basic features setup/ready. This game as it is now, is still very early in development, but I do post videos on WIP content here randomly if that counts Moving on, Also got a screenshot of the WIP of the new(er) HuD I mentioned before. My theory didn't holdout like I wanted it to due to technical limitations in the UDK. Though I'm still going to be able to try a few things for displaying your Health and Virus stuff. As for the HuD itself, this one has been done to look as simple as possible: it's decked out in grayscale color wise, takes up much less of the overall screen space, and just seems much more to the point. This HuD is being made at the request of my coder, so I apologize if the following image lacks my usual artistic fluff lol. Ultimately though it'll be up to you guys on what we go ahead with, I just want to ensure we go with the best one, so if I have to do one more, then so be it lol. Description of what's what: Top left is the Battery Bar, followed by ED (who still serves as the stealth awareness), the next two bars are your shields and stamina, below all that under "Mental Condition" is the Lust bar, and finally on the bottom are the dpad buttons (cool downs will simply be overlaid atop them to let you know when their ready). As for my random notes on this one: Need to play around with the size a bit to make sure it fits right, the Dpad buttons on the bottom left need a few tweaks to give them a bit more style (they're too boxy for me atm), and I also still need to do the Mission/Objective popup on the top right. I'm going to try something that might remove the need for a healthbar (no it's not a bloody screen lol), and the Virus level will be displayed by your screen slowly transferring over to the infected vision I showed a while back. After this is done, I'll animate it in flash and give a better look into how this one will work (I'm going to be making a number of parts turn red when low). Then I'll probably do a vote on which one you guys prefer.

I hope soon you can get passed this or I fear you will invest more time, delaying progress in other areas. Sad to see people are spamming you with crap but this happends to nearly everyone, even AAA games. So dont at all be discouraged, feel empowered instead! Odd that its coming so early though, you have not even showed anything that wild yet... You have a very fair and civilized opinion about them so lets hope thats something they can appreciate.

Yeah it definitely would've made more sense to attack me once I had more done, but I guess this is more akin to what a preemptive strike? lol. Potentially wasted work sure, but if it means we get a better HuD in the process, then I'm all for it I like the new HUD, though ED looks a little big. Anon989 Posted November 4, 2013 Author Posted November 4, 2013 New WIP HuD below, size a little better now? I shrank ED down some after you guys asked. Also added the objective pop up (which will fade out), and in the center of the d-pad abilities will be your current player skill, like (Kick, Shove, etc...) and it's cool down. And on the topic of player skills, roll will be getting tweaked so that it is no longer a player skill, but rather an additional dodge move all players can do while aiming. Also some tweaks to how Lust will work for non-infected players following a great idea one of you guys were nice enough to email me, I'll have more on that tomorrow though. But yeah anyway, here's the HuD stuff I mentioned.

So that's nice. Still think I need to tweak the objective pop up size (maybe a lil wider?), and the D-pad still seems a tad too big. But yeah a little more feedback and I'll be done for the most part with this version.

Also added a secondary objective pop up for more complicated missions. But yeah after this I'll animate it, and depending on the reaction, I'll either use it or go back to the older one. But anyway here's that HuD again. We're almost done! lol Also this HuD is already kinda starting to grow on me, but your opinions are a lot more useful, so let me know what you guys think.

Or am I misunderstanding you? Basically a toggle for the adult side of the game stuff?

And yeah the debate of the HuD will be going on hold due in a large part to some news I have. Important Info Pls Read My Coder, finally having time to work on this has brought on another 2 guys to help with this. This is great, as the work load will be dropping quite a bit per person, but there is a downside (well it could be viewed as a positive too however), we are going to be taking a month or so to reflect on what we all want for the game, what we realistically can achieve, and other general design elements. So things are going to be shifting about again, as we now have a proper team to get things going. My initial talks with them seem to be that Single player will be the primary/initial goal, and then once we have a stable enough build + a decent following, the multiplayer sandbox mode will likely be something we use a kickstarter like site (there's an adult version of it that I can't recall it's name atm) to help find and pay for more experienced network guys to help establish a well made framework for the online play. I'll also be re/making a new blog for the game's page later as well, this new blog will be private until we can finalize everything I post, to avoid any potentially misleading/confusing information. Though this won't be until after we can get everything ready for you guys. btw The old blog will remain for the time being until the new one is ready, then I'll be taking it down. But yeah in conclusion, thanks a ton for your support so far (The support has been far beyond anything I was expecting when I first set out with this game), and I hope I can continue to have your support when I get back to work here. So with all that said, I'll be checking in here every now and then in case any of you guys have any questions I can answer, but besides that, things are going to be pretty silent here until we're ready.

Don't know who could suddenly peak over your shoulder >.> It's, in itself, a safety feature. It's just a guy making a suggestion.
