I need a hand [Solved]

Well two actually.

For some reason my generic males including named NPCs have lost their hands. Elders and Elves are unaffected and I've not seen an orc to check. Males from a male overhaul are unaffected.

The male hand nifs are in the correct location - Data\Meshes\Actor\character\Character Assets\malehands_0.nif and _1.nif

I can't see anything wrong in LOOT, TESVEdit or Wrye Bash.

They were fine at the start of the game so it must be something I've done.

Tried a new game with the first Nord off the block in Racemenu and he had no hands.

SOS Full and Slimmer bodies for males SOS (which I've used for a long time).

Take no notice of the schlong/pubes that was just me using the wrong texture.

Using the program to decompress the BSA, check in the last mods that you installed if any did not modify the bodies, I remember that a while ago the mod, The Forgotten City, modified the body of men making them smaller. This was not detectable by any program you already mentioned.

Thanks for the reply.

I've checked and I haven't installed any mods in the last week or two. I've also re-installed SOS and the Slimmer Body mod and neither of them mentioned any other mod.

CLAMS OF SKYRIM

Don't use it and all the mods I have now are the same as the previous game.

since it specifically modifies men's hands

I was thinking along those lines with regard to Basinga's Naturalistic and BakaFactory's ABC. I uninstalled them along with OS and reinstalled in the correct (?) order.

In my case I never used Basinga's Naturalistic, if you modify the body, it may be the problem. BakaFactory's ABC ... I don't think it's the problem ... but, I'm not sure, mostly because BakaFactory's ABC uses other mods to function, and modifies only creatures.

Basinga's mod isn't new to me. I re-installed BF's ABC mainly to ensure my HDT was set up correctly.

You could then solve the problem that afflicted you?

No, the problem is still there or not there depending how you look at it.

What I can't understand is how elves still have their hands but humans and orcs don't.

I'm guessing this was just a typo on your part, BUT just in case:

Data\Meshes\ActorS\character\Character Assets\  is the correct path.

Yes, just a typo unfortunately.

I can't get my head around why elves aren't affected but orcs and humans are.

Load up your whole load order in xEdit and see what is the last modification to humanoid hands. Skyrim.esm -> ArmorAddon -> NakedHands[something].

Marry me.

This was one of the things I did when I first noticed the problem. The only thing that was there was a female follower Natasha who I had use before. Nothing was in red or showing any sort of conflict.

Looking at it this morning it occurred to me that Natasha was originally a futa (might be wrong on that though). This could give her a connection with male hands. She is down as 'companion race' but the other races part includes everything except elves.

Easy way to settle it: out of XEdit, open NMM and disable Natasha.esp. Fire up the game.

I'd saved in the little guardhouse behind the main gate in Whiterun. As luck would have it there wasn't a guard in there so I came with the intention of checking the guard who stands in the top right of the market area.

I turned left to head up the main street and it was changing of the guard time. Guards coming down from the left, guards coming down the main street and guards coming out from the left half way up. All had shields on their left arm and a fully functioning right hand on parade. ?

Moral of the story: Do your trouble-shooting at mid day not mid night. :classic_blush:

Thanks a lot. I can now get back to finding new ways to break my game.
