69hentaisenpai Posted September 11, 2019 Posted September 11, 2019 Hello there, I've been thinking about the possibility of transfering a mod pack from a player to another. I've done some research but to no results. I'm here asking if it's possible for someone to create a mod list and then transfer everything to someone else. If yes, how? I'd love to give some of the mods here a try but I have tons of problems with them. Thank you for your help and time.
NoNickNeeded Posted September 11, 2019 Posted September 11, 2019 If we are talking about a full mod-setup, that would be possible with Mod Organizer. In MO all the installed mods are their own subfolders inside the "ModOrganizer\mods" folder. And the profile that contains the load order and stuff is in "ModOrganizer\profile\<profilename>". The only exceptions would be ENB, since that needs to be installed into the actual Skyrim folders as well as tools (like FNIS, BodySlide, Wrye Bash, Tes5Edit, ect. ) if the receiver wants to change anything later, since those tools either need to be integrated into the MO menu or installed seperately, or both. The mod folder is likely to be very big though. Mine is more than four times the size of the entirety of Skyrim itself - 45 GB against Skyrim's 9.someting GB (in no small part thanks to 2k and 4k textures ). Whether something similar is possible with other mod launchers, I don't know. If we are talking about combining say 3 mods into a single pack... that would probably be possible too, but wouldn't help all that much, since you'd still have the usual problems of mod- and plugin-order wtih any other mods that are installed.
capngagi Posted September 12, 2019 Posted September 12, 2019 I'll make a good one if I can do it without asking permission from mod authors. If I can't I'll try to get their permission. Can I do it here without getting permission?

If you are having trouble getting the mods to work, you need to work with the mod developers and other users in the mod support forums here and find out what you are doing wrong. You need to do this because at some point, something will be updated. You will probably want that update and then you'll have to beg someone to repack the mods with the new update for you. 2 hours ago, capngagi said: I'll make a good one if I can do it without asking permission from mod authors. Unless you know someone and would be helping a friend this isn't something you want to do anyway. There are several threads here on the forums either in response to people asking for mod packs or just discussing the concept and they always end at the same points: you generally may not do it and you practically cannot do it. Unless you want to rebuild your mod pack every month and are going to offer only one pack with one build of one list of mods in a take it or leave it mood, you'll never keep up. On top of that, the whole concept of mods is such that people pick and choose what they want and having a package with a set list means they are not able to choose. So no. Just don't do it.

Ok, I think I understand what you're trying to say. While we're at it. Do you know of any type of tutorials I can find here to correctly install the more adult mods? I've tried before but they were a bit buggy.

First, does Skyrim run well with a moderate amount of non-complicated mods? If not (or if so but you haven't yet) the S.T.E.P. guides could help. Next, are you trying to install everything at once? Pick one mod, install anything it requires and see if that works. Then install the mod. Then ask on that mod's support thread for help with that mod. Try to get a list of all of the mods you have from your mod manager, mention which manager you're using and find out how to turn on Papyrus logging. When you've gotten one adult mod running, then try the next. As you get better at installing mods and dealing with issues you should have an easy enough time installing several at once.

" Unless you want to rebuild your mod pack every month and are going to offer only one pack with one build of one list of mods" You see that's not actually always a good policy. Like with Paradise Halls the new version I can't run because the new requirements for it can't be met. Someone was an asshole and no longer supports those requirements. The mods being required are no longer available. I wouldn't update it unless it was something like a crash fix. But what you're saying is modders are really cunts and won't let you mirror their mods because they got some kind of anti-social problem?

But what you're saying is modders are really cunts and won't let you mirror their mods because they got some kind of anti-social problem? Oh, did the little toddler get have a pouty time when someone said No when he said "Gimme!"? People volunteer their work, provide the results of their efforts, provide free support when you have problems with the freely supplied works and then you expect them to further help someone confused because they're using an older version of the work because you got your feelz hurt? Your demands would be (and in the past have been when mod packs were produced) mirrored in the very people downloading the mod packs you just expect a modder should allow and support. The mod users aren't going to ask YOU why such and such doesn't work and why you have 1.5 when 1.8 is out. This isn't a case where someone is charging way to much for a game and you're getting a cracked copy, knowing there will be issues and knowing you shouldn't go to the game maker. People don't read the install notes from the modder's page and ask questions that were already answered. You think they're going to ask you for help with your mod pack, or the author? What is the author supposed to do when people think you made the mods in the pack? While it isn't like they would lose any money, how would you like to lose any respect or credit for work you did? Just because someone isn't charging doesn't mean they don't own their work. If they say no mod packs, then its no mod packs and you can just take it or leave it. No whining, no calling people cunts or anti-social or saying they have problems. There have been plenty of "help, mod pack?" threads, several quite recently. All of these reasons and more have been laid out by both modders and knowledgeable mod users. You want to whine? There's a rant thread.
