Automaton: Automated "Modpack" Setup Tool

Automaton is a new big thing going on in the Skyrim modding community.  It's a tool that you can use to automatically set up your mod list, exactly how someone else had set it up in the past.  It doesn't distribute modders' assets on its own, it just helps install them (and, for Nexus content, it can auto-download the files for Nexus Premium users).

 

I'm completely unrelated to this project, and this is a throwaway account... for those two reasons, I probably won't engage with this thread much after this initial post.  I just wanted to make the LL sub-community aware of this thing.

So you have problems reading and understanding the instructions for installing mods. What to do? Why, install another program whose instructions you have problems reading and understanding and written by a guy who had problems reading and understanding instructions. "Good thinking, 99".

 

These type of things are for muppets who want everything spoon-fed to them.

Or for people who want to backup their installs so that if something happens they don't have to spend numerous hours rebuilding them manually without dedicating dozens of gigabytes to a zipped backup...

 

Why are people like you always insisting that anything to make something easier is a bad thing?

Because it took exactly 6 hours for someone to start abusing this for money they didn't earn.

when you break your skyrim, it's because you have pick mods that require patch, or suck or whatever

if you have add those mods to automaton to not have to reinstall them, the result is the same mess you had before reinstalling, so you have waste your time to reinstall the same mess

if you don't add them... you have to reinstall them manually, so using automaton or not...

 

checking op blabla, i bet that thing don't merge install order, then it's useless

x release his install order, y don't like that mod, he have to remove it manually, that kill the purpose of that thing (to not do stuff manually)

for that thing to be used, x upload a cbbe install order (with cbbe, armors, skeleton, textures...), good luck with the autorisation crap, a sexlab install order (sexlab defeat whatever), a overhaul x install order......

you add that to that automaton, and it install it

 

mod x get updated, automaton can't find older version, install order broken

or it install older version that require a new master, without the master, ctd loading the game

wops, you will have the same problems with that thing, only difference, someone have waste hours uploading install order for you to try your luck

When will people learn?  THERE IS NO EASY BUTTON FOR MODDING!

Mod packs may be great for a short time, until something updates and then guess what, all your shit is broken.

Stop looking for the easy button and start learning to mod.  There are literally thousands of youtube videos to walk you through anything you can think of.

Get modding and give up on the easy button.  Either that or just go by a console and be miserable.
