Bethesda engine has a limit of 255 plugins it can load: every plugin gets an address for its record, which is just its load order position in exadecimal. So we have from 00 to FF, but wait! For Skyrim 00 to 04 are taken by Bethesda masters (Skyrim.esm, Update, Dawnguard, Heartfires and Dragonborn), those are out of the figure. Every ESL plugin is loaded at the FE position (that would be the 253rd plugin), ESL address space is FE 000 to FE FFF, that gives the 4096 ESL plugins limit. The very last spot, position 254 or FF, is off limits as well, because objects created by the game are in that address space, example: a bandit or draugr that appears in game will have a FormID starting with FF. Quick math and we have 255 - 5 (masters) - 2 (reserved) = 248 additional "fat" ESM/ESP and 4096 ESL plugin slots for our mods. That's not entirely true either, because Skyrim has a native limit of 512 maximum files open, Engine Fixes raises it to 2048: in that number you have to fit every plugin, bsa archive and dll the game loads, so the real limit is likely around 1300-1400 total 3

trgdolors Posted April 18, 2021 Posted April 18, 2021 Well arshesney, that is an awesome explanation of the details! Here it is in the simplest form (someone please correct me if I am wrong): In MO2, on the right hand side, near the top, hover over the "Active:" number (unknownwake screenshotted it for us above). On the pop-up, "ESMs and ESPs:" Active (not Total) must be 254 or less. This info could be added to the guide for clarity. Now, if you have not done it yet, changing some of the mods to ESL is surprisingly easy (and satisfying the first time you do it)! A link to a good guide or even directions would not be unreasonable. This allows you to functionally lower the "ESMs and ESPs" number A LOT.
PornPleb Posted April 18, 2021 Posted April 18, 2021 Hey anyone and everyone, I could use some help here. I'm going through and reducing the amount of esp's I'm using but I'm running out of ideas of things I can do with out. I absolutely can't do without all the Ordinator stuff, the civil war stuff and devious devices. can someone go on my modwatch page that I made and give me some advice. I've been working on this for a few days now and I'm kinda tired of it. and I've been wasting months with modding skyrim as a whole Modwat.ch

Modwat.ch Right off the bat you can probably live without "More Dirt-Snow-Ash on the Roads.esp" If you're not using Hearthfire religiously, I'd also pick just one of the custom homes you have: *Eli_Druid Home.esp; *AnnaProudspireManor.esp; *BreezehomeByLupus.esp; *CynnsVlindrelHall.esp; *riverwoodhouse.esp. On the same note you can get rid of Windstad_Row_Boat.esp; *Better Apiary.esp; *Daily Chicken Eggs.esp; *Functional Butter Churns.esp; *Hearthfire Cellar Entrances.esp. -You won't need Blackstone Barrow revisited once you've finished it which usually takes about 3 hours tops from the opening cutscene, so you can safely deactivate the mod once you have the McGuffin you need from there. -You could also get away with disabling all of your Dawnguard/Vampire and Solstheim mods until you're ready for them. -You've also got both Smurf and VectorPlexus Regular schlongs installed in addition to a bunch of futa schlongs. You might be fine with just one type of men's schlong. -MilkMod gets pretty old pretty fast in my experience and takes up like 6 ESPs. -I actually specifically skipped Your Own Thoughts because I saw how many ESPs it used and decided it wasn't a dealbreaker for me. -Like most Skyrim survival mods, iNeed is a little broken and I think you're infinitely better off without it. -I also see you have Gold to Septims dialog with a bunch of esp patches. I'd just skip those if you're this low on space, the improvement isn't something that really breaks immersion-- after all, we have TONS and tons and tons of slang terms for money in English. If you're still REALLY. REALLY. REALLY attached to everything i've mentioned, you still have some options but they require a lot of technical knowledge of how skyrim mods work and I'd recommend you get into a modded game first before you go trying them. 1
trgdolors Posted April 18, 2021 Posted April 18, 2021 -As previously stated, "Pine Shrubs Redone" seems to be replaced by Mari's Flora. -Also, SSE Display Tweaks had an interesting update. Apparently there is this: Added custom configuration file support (create SSEDisplayTweaks_Custom.ini and put any settings you don't want overwritten in it) If I understand it, you can have a separate second .ini file with your customizations that does not get overwritten after future updates. So updates get easier.

wolkec Posted April 18, 2021 Posted April 18, 2021 Hi, after following the installation guide, I get T pose on my character and none of the animations are working for me or NPCs after installing almost all the mods from scratch and using Fins and then Nexus mod. None of the npcs move either. Does anyone know how to fix my issue?
Aylis Posted April 18, 2021 Author Posted April 18, 2021 2 hours ago, trgdolors said: This info could be added to the guide for clarity. It already is, same as a lot of things that get asked. But if some people can't be bothered with reading the things i write it is definitely not my fault... 1
PornPleb Posted April 18, 2021 Posted April 18, 2021 after all my hard work I can proudly say that Nemesis and Fnis refuse to work together, or something like that and I wasted 3 days downloading shit. on that note I'm taking a break from skyrim and I probably wont touch Nemesis until it has its not in a beta phase. I really appreciate you guys helping my dumbass and I learned a lot of cool shit for the future but this would be the 4th time in a row I had to do a complete reset of my mod setup. and ive been spending more time modding games rather then actually playing them.
akadeadpool Posted April 18, 2021 Posted April 18, 2021 For people staving for esp count, I found 2 skse mods that can replace esp mods of this mod list: - Armor Rating Rescaled SKSE Remake replaces Armor Rating Redux SE - Glow Be Gone SKSE Updated replaces No Edge Glow - Magic and Transformations The later mod is tricky to install and can cause CTD on startup if json setup is improper. 2
wollboi Posted April 18, 2021 Posted April 18, 2021 @PornPleb YOT ESPs are flagged as ESLs and don't count towards your total. Any plugin that is in italics (and isn't bold) is an ESL, regardless of its extension. For comparrison, here is my plugin count: Spoiler FNIS and Nemesis work fine together. Follow the directions carefully, and make sure you're clearing your Overwrite before you do anything else. Also make sure you're using the SSE version of FNIS and Nemesis. I would say that starting out, you will definitely spend more time modding than playing the game, but you'll spend much less time using this guide. Unless you just want a few mods, then go it alone. This guide is easy-to-use, but is intended as a complete overhaul of Skyrim SE and may not be what you're looking for. @wolkec Same advice regarding FNIS/Nemesis as above. 1

trgdolors Posted April 18, 2021 Posted April 18, 2021 @Aylis Sorry Aylis, I really appreciate your dedication to your awesome guide. You have no idea how much I have learned from both your guide and this thread. I was only trying to help pay it back and clarify some details. I did not intend to add to your frustration. @PornPleb Don't be too disheartened. I think we have all been there at one time or another. A running joke about this game is "PLAY Skyrim?". One has to see all this as a challenging yet fun puzzle that IS solvable. Perhaps after a break start with following this guide word for word, without adding the other mods for now. Play for a little bit, then add in a few of the extra mods you have researched.

I was using unlimited nemesis engine but not the SE edition, i had to scroll down on github and grab the SE version. Now the game works!! Time to play Also i had to remove more nasty critters, i think that one also needs SE edition
wolkec Posted April 18, 2021 Posted April 18, 2021 Spoiler any idea what mod or config could be causing this

I can attest that this guide not only works, but it can also help a lot to anyone new to modding. I, myself, never modded before I found this guide, and I got my game to run smoothly and beautifully. But this guide only works if you follow carefully the instructions and read everything. When something didn't work for me it was because I made some mistake or I was sloppy at some point. Don't be mistaken - this is a guide to start from no experience at all, but it is also a monster guide with hundreds of mods... It is not an easy task and it took me like a month to put everything together (I'm a noob after all). (After my list from this guide was completed and running good, then I started to add other mods... And then I started to screw up even more... ?) Anyways, I learned a lot from this guide and the mistakes I made while following it, and now my Skyrim game looks and runs amazingly. Nobody said that following this guide was to be easy. But it is definitely rewarding. 2

wollboi Posted April 18, 2021 Posted April 18, 2021 @wolkec Please put images in the spoiler tag (the eyeball icon). Check the bugs section on the first page for blackface bug. @xxfumaxx I assume you mean you downloaded the LE of MNC. For some reason, it works fine in SE. I would still switch over though. I don't think you need to re-run FNIS/Nemesis, but if you do then it's no big deal. Delete your FNIS and Nemesis Overwrites you created and make sure you clear your Overwrite at the bottom, then follow the steps again. I would also recommend clicking the de-install creatures button in FNIS before you run it. Then you'd probably want to make a hard save and run Resaver/NetImmerse because there are going to be some leftover scripts from the old version.

I followed the directions, i have no MO2 esp errors, cleared the cache for every dyndolod step, , ran fnis, deactivated it, then ran nemesis. did the wyre bash exactly as told. have the correct versions for everything. fuck if i know what to do from here.

BUT i didnt installed every mod on the list, crappy Internet. I skipped area/armor/quest/weapons. In the end i think i will redo it with everything on the list 2

If you hover over the number box on the far right labelled "Active," MO2 will break down how many esl, esm, and esp that you have. I skipped a lot of the things Aylis marked "optional" but I do have a pretty sizeable armor mod that isn't on the list, and I did go in for all of the Creature and Futanari options in the Lover's Lab section. Reveal hidden contents Functionally, the limit is 249 ESPs, and you can read about that in i think the top post of the guide. You can go up to 254 without an issue (that's my usual benchmark). EDIT: Specifically, you can have a total of 254 esms and esps active at a given time. It sometimes works with 255 depending on the list, but at 256+ it's all FUBAR from there. 1
