Corsayr Posted February 6, 2019 Posted February 6, 2019 Hi there ? Does anyone know of any mods that limit tempering? I really would like something that slows down the max level you can temper items to, and limits to top tier to just legendary (no multiple legendary temper levels) 1. prevent items from being tempered beyond Legendary stage 1 2. slow the progression of your max tempering level.
Ernest Lemmingway Posted February 6, 2019 Posted February 6, 2019 Tempering is a function of the Smithing skill itself. There is a way of reducing how much tempering weapons and armor receive per point of Smithing in the CK but nothing that can put an upper limit on it to my knowledge.

afa Posted February 6, 2019 Posted February 6, 2019 Maybe get skytweak and mess around with the crafting/tempering values.

ppp Posted February 6, 2019 Posted February 6, 2019 For an alternate approach, there's also Equipment Durability. https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/89035 You can still get super tempered items, but they won't stay that way. You could go into the CK and change the perk temper multipliers to 1.5 or 1.25 or whatever. Also, is there a reason you can't simply ignore Fortify Smithing enchants/alchemy effects?

I actually do use that to track NPCs. I use Loot and Degradation for me and my follower. The primary reason I want to limit tempering is that at high levels of smithing you can get multiple layers of legendary which make it nearly impossible to balance degrade rate so that low tempers (fine, superior, etc) don't insta break. But Legendary4 will break sometime before the heat death of the universe. ?
ppp Posted February 6, 2019 Posted February 6, 2019 By "high levels of smithing" am I to assume you're using a skill uncapping mod?
Corsayr Posted February 6, 2019 Author Posted February 6, 2019 5 minutes ago, ppp said: By "high levels of smithing" am I to assume you're using a skill uncapping mod? Well yes, I do have that (though my current skill is only like 82), but it is actually possible to achieve a crazy level of tempering with the particular metal's perk and 70-80 skill level. So greater than 100 is not needed to produce the unwanted uber tempers.
ppp Posted February 6, 2019 Posted February 6, 2019 Are you using Fortify Smithing enchantments and potions? Do you use a perk overhaul? Looking in the CK, you could potentially go in and modify the relevant perks to use Set Value instead of Multiply Value. That would make it so you always temper up to whatever you set, but can't go over.

ppp Posted February 6, 2019 Posted February 6, 2019 I guess your definition of 'crazy level of tempering' is much lower than mine. Looking at the mods I've got installed, Complete Crafting Overhaul Remade has an MCM option to modify your tempering bonus by a percent, and Summermyst - Enchantments of Skyrim has an option to enforce a 100% Fortify Smithing and Alchemy bonus. Looking at the Wiki, you need a Smithing skill of 168 to temper to Legendary (if you don't have the relevant perk) and 91 (if you do). If you're getting 4x Legendary bonus with a skill of 82, and no enchantments, something else is going on. Or are you futureproofing?

I think anything above legendary shouldn't be possible. I'll check out CCOR, and Summermyst Enchantments. Thank you for your assistance. ?
ppp Posted February 6, 2019 Posted February 6, 2019 If it's a naming/immersion thing, you could change Game Settings sHealthDataPrefixArmo6 and sHealthDataPrefixWeap6 to 'Pretty Good, I Guess'. Oh, and did you know there's names for in-game holidays that apparently never got used? I didn't. It's amazing what you find by poking around in the CK. Perhaps you ninja'd my edit above, but: Looking at the Wiki, you need a Smithing skill of 168 to temper to Legendary (if you don't have the relevant perk) and 91 (if you do). Another thought: If you're using Elys Uncapper you can go to [SkillFormulaCaps] in the .ini and set iSmithing to something like 50, so that no matter how high you raise your skill, it's effectiveness won't increase past that point. I'm pretty sure that's how that works, anyway. I've never had cause to alter that section, myself.
