Gardevoir Posted January 19, 2019 Posted January 19, 2019 The TESV.exe process is running in the background and I cannot kill it without restarting my PC. I tried killing the process in Task manager, however that gives me an "Access is denied error". And trying to kill it with CMD gives me "ERROR: The process "TESV.exe" with PID 3556 could not be terminated." Any time the game crashes this happens, never when I use the console to kill it or just simply exit the game. This also happens if I have to kill the process. Its really annoying as it is taking up a lot of resources and I cannot relaunch the game because steam thinks I'm still playing it.
myuhinny Posted January 19, 2019 Posted January 19, 2019 Have you tried killing steam.exe then try killing the game.exe? It could be something is using it and that is what is preventing it from being closed. I have had steam errors before where trying to launch a game but steam kept throwing up a error but after killing the steam.exe and then trying to launch the game which then restarted steam the game launched fine then.
MadMansGun Posted January 19, 2019 Posted January 19, 2019 try disabling windows error reporting (different OS versions have different instructions so you will need to yahoo/google it) it's the "Program Has Stopped Working" error message that keeps the program running.

Just tried that and still nothing.

Gardevoir Posted January 19, 2019 Author Posted January 19, 2019 Fixed it. Turns out I had two hdt extensions enabled in MO2. Don't how it happened or why it was causing skyrim to continue running but disabling one worked.

Be sure your User have Admin Rigths. When you launch the CMD be sure launch it with Admin Rigths. First, verify if you can kill others games. Open any other game and press ctrl+alt+sup and select admin task for try kill any other game. If you can NOT kill any game can confirm a problem in base user Rigth. If the problem only happend with skyrim can be caused by the incorrect installation of the game. If not recomended install the game in "Program Files" because UAC can give problems with the User Acces Rigths. Of course, you MUST NOT install or use any program or tool in DESKTOP. Verify that yours programs are installed outside DESKTOP.
Guest Posted February 16, 2019 Posted February 16, 2019 Hmmm maybe not the 'best' solution, but when Skyrim crashes and doesn't want to close I usually just Cntrl Alt Del and log off xD it's a lot faster than a total reboot

I fixed it, it was an issue with my SSD. I bought a new one and it doesn't happen anymore
