visagezero Posted December 22, 2018 Posted December 22, 2018 This is a really strange issue I've been having. Normally, when launching Skyrim through SKSE, after a minute it will load all of my plugins, and my main menu wallpaper will appear. For about 5-10 seconds, the screen freezes before finally starting the music and showing the menu options. I've been getting an issue where instead of taking a minute to load, the menu will immediately start. Trying to load a game results in the main menu options disappearing and nothing happening (but music still plays, its not frozen). Starting a new game works just fine, despite having over 250 mods installed with heavy scripts running. I'm guessing something is wrong with SKSE, and its crashing before my game loads up the main menu. Any way to check? I use SafetyLoad, and Continue Game No Crash. Disabling those two plugins separately didn't help.

Any way to check? Are you talkin about SE or LE? SKSE for LE hasn't changed for quite along time and as long as you didn't mess around with it, you might be pretty sure that it is NOT SKSE. Anyway, as long as you have the current v1.7.3 from here https://skse.silverlock.org/ you are fine. Much more, I have the strong feeling that you broke something else. To start your investigation, I recommend to read @Psalam 's blog https://www.loverslab.com/blogs/blog/1065-how-to-treat-ctds-in-skyrim-le-wip/ and @donttouchmethere 's article https://www.loverslab.com/blogs/entry/7521-well-my-skyrim-got-messy-now-i-have-to-clean-it-up-so-i-thought-to-myself-why-not-start-a-blog-about-that/ But there are many good guides more... I just can't remember them all. 5 hours ago, visagezero said: I use SafetyLoad, and Continue Game No Crash. Disabling those two plugins separately didn't help. That sounds a bit outdated at best. The same author has advanced in his work with "Load Game CTD fix" And as you will find in @donttouchmethere 's article we advise you to use Crash Fixes and SKSE Plugin Preloader

Any way to check? I really doubt it. SKSE.exe is simply a dll injector. When you launch SKSE.exe, simply start TESV.exe, freeze, register the main dll skse_1_9_32.dll and start to inject all the dlls located in DATA\SKSE\plugins, each one in a separate memory space, probably protected. When all the dll's are registered, it unfreezes the game and exits. It does not do more. All the HARD work is done by the main dll skse_1_9_32.dll When the game start you must see the logo and smoke moving before the main menu appear. Meanwhile, the game are loading all the esm/esp and making a lot verifications about dependant files. When the verification is complete, the main menu will appear. If the verification fail the game make CTD before main menu, normally by a missing master. My 4 years old machine does all of this in near 30 seconds. I have 24 dll files and 217 plugings now managed with NMM. If you have more dll's or more plugings this time can be increased, specially ussing MO. But MUST works ALWAYS. If sometimes not works i only can think in a problem while registering dll's or reading esm/esp. I use NMM and i never have that problem. If you have MO, when the problem happend, take a look to the log files of MO. Can be a problem in the installation of the game or skse, but i doubt it. Can be a problem in operating system dll's or drivers or directx... some are not correctly initialized and the game not works as expected.
visagezero Posted December 23, 2018 Author Posted December 23, 2018 Fixed it, had something to do with installing SKSE Plugin Preloader, which conflicted with one of my other SKSE plugins that used d3dx9_42.dll, I think it was Crash Fixes or ContinueGameNoCrashFix.
