SkyUi not installing?

Whenever I try to install SkyUi it says it can't and gives an error code 5 as the explanation. Am I doing something wrong?

(I am using a clean skyrim install along with the newest version of mod organizer)

Hi you will have to unzip Sky UI . Drag and drop the two files to your data files. That will sort your problem. It is set this way for both Old Skyrim and New SSE Skyrim. Karenxx

What "says you can't?" Your mod manager can't give you "error code 5." Still, if (for whatever reason) you feel that you are unable to install SkyUI, try a manual installation- extract the archive to someplace convenient (desktop is fine) and then copy both files (the esp and the bsa) from the extracted archive straight into your Data folder. Then sort your load order with LOOT and job done. However, manual installation should never be necessary with a simple 2-file mod like SkyUI. So after you manually install and find out you are still getting Error Code 5 (see below) please remove the two SkyUI files from your Data folder and use a mod manager for all subsequent installations since the manual installation didn't solve the problem.

Error code 5 is a SkyUI error code. Given that you said you are unable to install SkyUI ("It can't") how is it that you are getting a SkyUI error code? :classic_biggrin:

Be that as it may, Error Code 5 is generally a SkyUI incompatible menu file mismatch. Check for stray swf files ("loose files") in Data\Interface and move them out of there- SkyUI's swf menus are all contained in the SkyUI BSA. Once you get SkyUI up and running, go back to your moved swf files and try to figure out what mod they came from and you can add them back one at a time until you find the one(s) that break SkyUI with Error Code 5. You can also decide you like the "stray" file better than the SkyUI counterpart and simply use the SkyUI MCM to turn off version warnings for each menu file type selectively.

The most common swf conflicts are from (a) other versions of SkyUI; and (b) map mods. A distant third in swf conflicts is other mods whose swf files are also packed up in bsa's (meaning you won't be able to see them in Data\Interface) and which load after SkyUI(_SE).esp. To test for this, manually move SkyUI(_SE).esp to the very bottom of your load order just for testing and launch the game to see if you still get Error Code 5. If you do still get Error Code 5 with nothing loading after SkyUI, you have eliminated this issue as a possibility because nothing in a conflicting BSA can load after SkyUI.BSA if SkyUI(_SE).esp is at the very end of your load order.

For more details on SkyUI Error Codes, I recommend that you have a look at the  SkyUI Troubleshooting Page.

Finally, very rarely, someone installs the SSE version of SkyUI into Oldrim or vice versa. To check for this error, find your SkyUI plugin file in your Data folder- for Oldrim it's SkyUI.esp and for SSE it's SkyUI_SE.esp. Obviously, if you find a mismatch, Bob's your Uncle. Or possibly your Aunt, these days... :classic_tongue:

This is only true if s/he is doing a manual installation, which is not a very good way for a beginner to manage his/her mods as a general rule if s/he has more than 5 or 6 mods installed. All 4 Mod Managers that I'm aware of (NMM, Vortex, Wrye Bash and MO2) install 7z/zip/rar mod archives just fine and in fact at least 2 of them require mods to be in archives.

Actually, it won't sort the problem if the cause is loose swf files in the Data\Interface folder- loose files always override BSA-packed files (such as SkyUI's BSA-packed files.) Again, 3 minutes of investigation to discover what the actual cause of the problem is will not only solve the immediate problem but help the user gain some insight into how stuff works. Please see my response 5 minutes ago directly to the OP for details. Thanks.

At least for Oldrim there's still MO1. ;) Just out of curiosity, is MO2 now considered stable? Or do you maybe even consider it superior even for Oldrim?

I have had problems installing UI. Never had a problem installing drag and drop. Just works for me. Vortex seems to work ok> NMM I haven't been able to auto install for quite some time. As for NMM I feel it is now outdated. Used Mod manager few times never really liked it myself. I do like Vortex though still got few problems where LL mods are concern. Sorry if I caused confused. I never ran into Swf causing problems.

I've been using MO2 to manage my Skyrim SE setup for months, no issues so far (well, a minor one would be that the download bar doesn't refresh to display progress until you put the mouse over it, but its just the visual part, the downloads are completed correctly).

@AlchemicalBlobcan you provide screenshots of the install process/error you are getting?

MO2 should work without issues in Skyrim LE, so no need to switch to other versions (there is a Legacy version on the same MO2 nexus page if you still want to try, is the most up to date MO1 available).

I've seen those errors in similar posts about MO not being able to "load file or assembly..." and people recommend to (re)install all the NET frameworks for your Windows. On a different note, do you have SKSE installed? Because I'm not seing the SKSE loader as the default exe (left from the Run button).

Yup, SKSE seems missing and that's likely the problem. First two links in my sig should contain videos how to install SKSE with MO. The version doesn't seem to matter anymore, last time i tried MO2 it was quite buggy but that's been a while.

And once you have that and SkyUI works i'd recommend to get crash fixes, you'll need to configure that to make the memory patch working but it's worth it.

See I am having a similar issue but its saying that my SKYui isn't the proper version or that its missing a file which I have reinstalled it multiple times and its the only mod that seems to bring up the error. I am not sure on what to do.
