In a foreword to The Hobbit, published in 1937, J R R Tolkien writes: "In English, the only correct plural of 'dwarf' is 'dwarfs' and the adjective is 'dwarfish'

Fish Fingers (a British delicacy)

 

Dwarves. I stand corrected but if I had the choice of a £ for every time I've seen 'dwarfs' or every time I've seen 'dwarves', I know which one I'd go for.

Now, where did I put those elfs?
