Maybe more common, maybe. We can blame evolution for not working (when's the last time the average urbanite/suburbanite chased off even a weasel (animal type, not human). We have kept that "pick up a stick like object" habit because of our own mentality. Anyone not in our circle of family 'n friends that is even mildly "offensive" whatever the hell it is, is immediately the weasel needed to be dealt with.

Tutanchamun Spoiler M de Médicis Spoiler
Jazzman Posted August 15, 2018 Posted August 15, 2018 @winny257 The mentioned figures didn't claim a ruling position by their own affords but exclusively due to their heredity rank in the succession of power, sometimes, as in case of Tutankhamun, as the result of a priestly plot to reestablish the traditional Amun cult by moving a loyal juvenile from a sideline of the Royal family of Akhnaten into position.

Jazzman Posted August 16, 2018 Posted August 16, 2018 Aye, Tut, the Living Image of Amun, was god-king for all his subjects as the claimed title states already. Not all power seekers go overboard with their social role, but some do. And that makes 'em dangerous. That's clearly not what we'd ever expect from a sage...
FauxFurry Posted August 17, 2018 Posted August 17, 2018 The basic Shinto concept of Kami is practically built around the idea that the longer that a being lives, the more wisdom that it accrues (or that it requires more and more wisdom to survive for a longer time). Once it hits a critical threshold, it attains a state of enlightenment which grants it vast powers, allowing it to transform and transcend into something akin to a god. I just thought that it would be amusing to share that little tidbit of data as it is appropriate to this thread.
