KoolHndLuke Posted July 8, 2018 Posted July 8, 2018 I probably wouldn't have spent nearly the hours I have with this game if not for the settlement building system and all the mods to make it much, much better. Since I haven't seen any thread dedicated specifically to this, I thought this would be a better place (LL) to start a thread about it since I- for one- like to hang some sexy nude pics/paintings, have some nude settlers, and some sex shenanigans going on. My shit is probably very tame compared to some others from here. But, that's not the point. The point is to show off what you have spent hours or days(weeks?) building in and out of your settlements. I'll start by showing what I did with Home Plate in DC. It's not much, but, I was comfy there during that play-through. I suspect many of you have built quite a bit yourselves. So, please share some screen shots if you would like.
RitualClarity Posted July 8, 2018 Posted July 8, 2018 I don't have any photos from builds. I a haven't enjoyed the settlement system as much as you and others have. Most of what I built was out of necessity not desire. Minimum creation to get moving. That being said... most of the default tools given for the game are really bad... those that spent time on building their settlements likely have many tools they used to do it, so as to get the desired result they are trying to achieve. So, I would suggest that those that post their creations also post the list of required settlement creation/edit mods used to get there. Not the mod list (although that would be very useful) but the mods themselves so others can see the tools used to create these and perhaps gain inspiration and maybe, gain a level of enjoyment that those posting their creations here have achieved. At the minimum, readers could at least gather up some basic tools based on the post to gain a better grasp at the basic settlement creation system to get quicker or more interesting results.
dharvinia Posted July 9, 2018 Posted July 9, 2018 My first build was a hotel in Sanctuary. I post stuff like this in the FO4 screenshot thread I build a great deal of specialized rooms using as few mods as possible. This is the entrance to one of many Lavatories throughout the Vault 88 complex. These are constant works in progress, and have actually changed since this screenshot was taken.
KoolHndLuke Posted July 9, 2018 Author Posted July 9, 2018 Well said there RitualClarity! I guess the first and most important mod I use is the Scrap Everything mod. Just like the mod suggests, it allows me to scrap junk, buildings, trash, dead bodies, you name it. I also use the ini edit with it to no ill effects. I could probably scrap most of downtown Boston with that mod! I can even scrap stains and clutter decals off floors and walls. The second would be Place Everywhere. This allows for more precise placement of objects anywhere I want, clipping through walls or other objects if need be. Without this I would be very restricted in what I can build and where I place it. Third, I use All Settlements Expanded to increase the build area and height for almost every vanilla settlement. You can build a freakin tower into the sky with this mod and it pushes the build borders for almost all settlements giving you much more space to build. The only drawback with this mod is that settlers sometimes will not go into the expanded area to do things. Forth, I use Portable Workshop. This allows me to build anywhere I want in the worldspace or in interiors. The only drawback is that it is not a full workshop workbench, meaning that some building mods will not work with it and they are not settlements (which is a good thing some times!). But, most mods do work with it. I sometimes use this to set up defensive points on the map and then spawn some friendlys to guard it for me. This comes in handy some times given the extreme difficulty I like to play- no health gain when leveling for one. Fifth, I use the excellent Conquest Mod to build brand new settlements anywhere I want. Full workshop that supports nearly every build mod out there. I had a settlement in Vault 95 that numbered about 20 settlers with full workshop, stores, activities, everything you get in a vanilla settlement. Even worked with Sim Settlements to an extent. The only thing to be wary of is where you place a settlement. Most locations will work fine. But, the infamous cell reset bug will wipe out settlements in a few locations. I lost an entire settlement in Quincy due to this. Other than that, I use Snappy HouseKit, Friffy's Curtains and Rods, Homemaker, CatDeco, and some others I can't remember at the moment. With those mods, I can build shit to my hearts content- or until my fps drops so low I can't play anymore. Here is one I just finished- anyone recognize it?

I'm absolutely rubbish at in game building, no imagination for it, and everything I try just doesn't work, but one day I decided to recreate the pre war house of tomorrow in post war Sanctuary Hills. I opened up the CK, and even though the prewar and post war sanctuary hills are 2 different cells, they have the EXACT same coordinates, so I wrote down all the X,Y, and Z coordinates of everything I was going to put in the post war sanctuary, and then put the pre war versions in, and typed in the correct numbers. I didn't want to decorate it exactly as it was, like putting every single object in the house, but the decorations are about 98% exact too. (it took me around 11 hours from start to finish, and I did it in one sitting) Then I decided to make it green and alive again, changed the ground texture to green grass, put in living trees using the pre war Sanctuary as a guide, changed the water around the island to the prewar version, then I went crazy with it, about 90% of the north half of the map is green, and about 25% of it has living trees. I know there's mods that do that, but I wanted to do it for myself, here's a couple pics: Note the big Vault-Tec styled building across the street, that's an example of my crappy in game building skill, also note, the booze and cigarettes are missing from the table next to the fireplace, an example of me not wanting to add absolutely everything:
dharvinia Posted July 9, 2018 Posted July 9, 2018 If you use the "Videos of the wasteland" mod, you can have the TV playing either movies or the the "you are special " holotapes. The mod comes with a holotape player, just put it next to the TV load it with tapes and it will play continuously. Here is a communal shower from vault 88 Entrance I plan to redo the floors, but I do not want to lose the "Vault" atmosphere.

These are some pics of a house with a waterfall in front that I did last year in Sanctuary. I used BYOP for the water.

KoolHndLuke Posted July 9, 2018 Author Posted July 9, 2018 This was a sort-of Japanese House I built while testing a mod for someone.

I have never messed around with the contraptions that much. Now I think I will. This was a huge 5 floor complex that I built at the Starlight Drive In. I was going to do the whole grounds around it to, but, my performance got so bad I had to stop- had about 30 people living there.
Phelps1247 Posted July 13, 2018 Posted July 13, 2018 The 2 things required by the story (Brotherhood path) and nothing else at all. ?
Irrational Posted July 13, 2018 Posted July 13, 2018 One of my favorite things to do in game. Currently in the process of finishing Sanctuary, but I'll post it once the place looks less like a work in progress. In the mean time, here is one of the locations I've made in Sanctuary: The meat market. It is located immediately to the left upon entering the settlement. This area is an agricultural and husbandry district of Sanctuary where crops and meats are cultivated for the Sanctuary citizens. since it is near the docks, the location provides both water and fresh water fish. This is a cool combination of objects. I used the sneeze guard and OCDecorator to create a meat display.
Di3sIrae Posted July 14, 2018 Posted July 14, 2018 No way, i appreciate the patience that you guys have to build all of this. I like to roleplay a lot while playing, and it means no fast travel, sleep, walk and even no compass since day one. So i never actually explored the entire game even with +- 1000h in it. As i like to use mods like Better Locational Damage, Agony and PIRAD, most of my time playing is dying out there, so not much time left to spend with buildings. Also i only make simple things and i already have some difficulty on doing so. Nowadays i usually just throw a lot of Sim Settlement plots and try to make them a bit better with simple additions, like stairs and lights. With my past character i managed to build more, now i just don't feel like wasting all of that time building. But i'll leave the mods i use for settlements anyway: C.A.M.P. is something everyone should have by now i guess. Like Conquest, without the bag and restrictions. Just craft a workbench and drop it wherever you want and start building. You'll need to have a way to add settlers to it though, and no fast travel and supply route. But it works really nice, especially for player homes. Sim Settlements and it's add ons. Not much to say about that lol CRX Crosses here from lovers lab, craft crosses to punish whoever you want. Settlement Supplies Extended G2M Workshop RLX Esl diet (the Vault Pack) Lore Friendly Posters Paintings of the Horrorwealth Homemaker And the already mentioned Place Everywhere and All SEttlements Expanded. I wanted to use Scrap Everything but it seens it have some conflicts so i never bothered. And here is a pic from my County Crossing. One day i'll try to build something cool ?

I've really got this itch to make some mini-games that both the player and npcs/settlers can play or at least look like they're playing. The first is bowling lanes. If I can use all the assets in the game, come up with the animations for it, find a way to replace the pins like with contraptions or something, then I would need to figure out how to script playing-sets and keeping score for the player- that kind of thing. Not sure if I can make it where you can play an npc with basic ai or not. Anyway, I might be able to pull that off in a year or so. I love mini-games in stuff like GTA5 or brawling and horse racing in TW3. ?
dibz666 Posted July 16, 2018 Posted July 16, 2018 I thought maybe I might chime in. Here are some pics of My current house, I end up making a new home alot. I made this house in a couple hours, But it's not super detailed.... I make a new house every time I start a new save which happens alot. Spoiler I play as & with three of my personal female characters alot, Kitty Kimmy & Debby. This house belongs to Kitty, It's a high tech house with a stone wall & foundation. There are three main rooms. The living room/office space has a bunch of nick nacks & every kind of workbench the upstairs is a completely glass wall & ceiling room. Upstairs is an observatory & has some benches to sit on while looking out at the wasteland & relaxing. Then there's the back room, It's a bedroom & theater in one there's some couches & a projector with a stereo system for chilling & watchin cartoons. A glass wall & doors separates the other half of the backroom, It's the bedroom for the girls & where they keep they're personal stuff. Kitty sleeps in a black adult crib next to the window, Kimmy sleeps in the blue crib, & the pink crib belongs to Debby.

Although i don't use much these things, mostly because i don't spend much time on settlements, i do like to have it for when i go there eventually. lol i remember one day my sister was looking at me playing FO4, and we started playing bowling in the General Atomics Galleria. You know, hold the ball, start running and release it. I hope you can get to it, it will be a nice achievement !
Irrational Posted July 29, 2018 Posted July 29, 2018 This took up so much resources. If it wasn't for northland diggers resources, I don't think I'll ever be able to gather enough materials to make this. Just finished the exterior and rooms. Now time to detail the interiors. My Sanctuary Player home: Villa Justitia.
