Hello,

I wanted to thank the modding community that has given me so much and who I have tried to give so much as well. Over 43,000 downloads of my mods and making new friends in the community and learning alot; I decided I would put up Patreon page for anyone if they wanted to support my projects. No pressure or anything...; I'll still be making mods for free and there will always be mods posted to the site as well, I have always enjoyed reading the articles and helping others and getting help from others as well.

I don't think I have ever been party of anything as big as this modding community and the cool people that all have modding in common.

Current projects

I also kinda think that more care needs to be taken with this, lots of people are doing this now and it could draw a lot of negative attention to the site as it becomes more of a trend,

Although a lot of people are bundling in the mods now, it's a lot different when charging for the Sims as it is paywalling others work and that's a regular TOU issue  on pretty much all the mainstream sites

Although payment is optional, it still could give you some trouble,

Being one of the more established LL users doing this,  it will get you a lot of respect from the content creators and hopefully more will follow this example,

Yeah, you can find out the where all the CC for your sims came from by using the Tray Importer. All it takes is loading it up and then a little patience as you go through it, with time taken dependent on how much you use.

Though I have starting bundling in the mods myself for my uploads, I still try to take the time to identify all the CC. So though I am breaking their TOUs, there is at least an attempt to give credit I hope.

bundling in the mods

While it's highly preferred to credit people and it shows some care, the vital difference is the lack of a pay system,

That pretty much gives you a free run you chose not to, the fact you do still benefits them

I'm open any suggestions...I want to be fair..do whats right...

Tell me how do things better...I'll do it....

What about early access to just my mods no cc - and links to authors and credit for cc?

So basically its just paying for early access to a combined mod? I could do that? I should have probably thought this through a bit more; it was late...I was on ambien...j/k...No but seriously...I apologize everyone I didn't go about this right way..

Until I get your blessings...I removed my recent posts...on patreon...and will rework them without cc content...the only posts currently on their are older 'combined' mods already released here.

I think that might be best way to be fair everyone...I'll post links and give credit on site..release early knocked down version..with no cc unless i make it..which I'm still learning quite a bit everyday....

What do you guys think?

You can provide links to the CC required to use your Sims, but don't include it with the Sims on Patreon. Just use your Tray files only on Patreon, but in the description of each Sim, put what is required to have them look the way you want and provide the links to those author's pages.

This way you're not getting money for other people's work, and you're providing credit for those other author's work.

Edit: And make sure you know the LL rules for Patreon as well before doing all this. LL requires that your content be released for free every month on LL in order to maintain your Patreon on this site (unlike the Official EA Rules which require you to release all your Patreon content for free every two weeks, LL gives you a bit of leeway).

Thats fair...

I can do that....It's just hard when people can't find stuff for some reason..but I'll keep a list of sites. I know sometimes mod creators disappear...and then there sites are gone...and their work is still floating around. In that type instance if their site is closed down..and someone can't find that mod? Best options...send to someone?

+1 with Spyder,

That's ultimately the best way to do it and in a sense more rewarding for your patrons,

Maybe some traveling involved but they also find some other cool stuff along the way,

In the case of a dead link, something you know for a fact is no longer available, Tumblr deleted etc,

Those are always fair to add to the folder with a credit to its creator when posting ?

Yeah that's always a tough situation, but sadly inevitable with any game that does modding. Most times you can still find the mod in question on another site, but other times, it is gone for good. When it comes down to that sort of situation, sadly you gotta just do without that mod or modify your Sim to not use it any longer.

But I mean if that situation happens, google the heck out of the missing mod and hope you can find it and provide an alternate link lol. Otherwise, you gotta remake the Sim without the mod in question. This is mainly for Patreon though, as LL doesn't seem to care that we bundle other author's mods in our stuff. So when the month is up and you gotta release your content for free on LL, bundle away. But for now when it is on Patreon, just provide links to be safe.

"When you contribute UGC, you grant to EA, its licensors and licensees a non-exclusive, perpetual, transferable, worldwide, sublicensable license to use, host, store, reproduce, modify, create derivative works, publicly perform, publicly display or otherwise transmit and communicate the UGC, or any portion thereof, in any manner or form and in any medium or forum, whether now known or hereafter devised, without notice, payment or attribution of any kind to you or any third party. You also grant all other users who can access and use your UGC on an EA Service the right to use, copy, modify, display, perform, create derivative works from, and otherwise communicate and distribute your UGC on or through the relevant EA Service without further notice, attribution or compensation to you."

Technically its supposed to be available for use by everyone right? No one can really own their custom content and legally cannot be sold. At least thats what im getting out of this

Yeah it's not a matter of legality or any of that, as we all know fair well that EA owns all rights to anything that we create and therefore we cannot claim ownership or force rules on mods or charge money for mods.

It's mainly a matter of respect towards other modders. Modders live off reputation mostly and when that rep is tarnished, it spreads. So while a lot of modders will say things like "Don't use my content anywhere, don't reupload, ask my permission" etc etc, what they are saying is "hey, respect that I created this and ask first or at least follow my terms please". They don't have to of course, but it is respectful to do so and it continues to keep modders going.

If we just stole everything from each other and didn't give credit or started making money off other people's work, then a lot of modders would stop modding and only do personal stuff for themselves, since the community has no respect for each other. People would stop sharing their work and it just wouldn't be a nice community anymore. So we respect each other and follow honor rules when working with other author's work, even though yes, legally, we don't have to, but we do it out of respect for each other.

Say in my case of some toys being required for certain animations,

Some have been well lost to the void,

I've attached these to my page here with a thanks to the owner,

Hopefully as it is made publicly available and not uploaded to a paysite is agreeable in the meantime or until it can be reuploaded by its respective creator,

Also with patreon, adult material is required to posted as patron only for safe guarding issues toward minors etc,

Meaning that the kinky stuff cannot be shared for free there without a violation

I can understand most creator's don't want others profiting from their creations. A lot of creators have disappeared and left the community because their cc has been put behind paywalls by others, some had been credited and others haven't.

My Terms of Use is no paysites, no paywalls, no adfly etc for this reason. It isn't fair to make money from other creator's cc.

I've considered going pay a few times but a good chunk of my cc is EA/Maxis based or hair retextures from TSR hair creators meshes so haven't until I make something that is totally mine not an edit of a Maxis mesh or recolour of someone else's mesh or if I get finally get around to learn to animate and make better poses.
