Description:

Crystal Enchantments adds an alternative way to enchant armor using special craftable Crystals. Enchantment strength depends on the amount and quality of used Crystals. Enchantments can be upgraded by adding more Crystals. Only Crystal Enchantments can be upgraded in this way. It will not work on other vanilla or modded enchantments.

Requirements:

1) All DLCs

2) SKSE (latest version)

3) PapyrusUtil for LE (https://www.loverslab.com/files/file/484-papyrusutil-leseae/)

------------------------------------------------------------------

Tutorial:

1) Cast a Teleportation Spell to move to Enchantment Chamber. The same spell can be used to exit Chamber;

2) Collect to content of a nearby chest. We will use them to craft few basic crystals;

3) Use the Enchantment Table (looks like Alchemy Lab) to craft 4 Ruby Dust and 4 Emerald Dust;

4) Craft 2 Empty Iron Crystals. Crystals are divided into 3 tiers: Iron, Dwemer and Elven. Higher tier Crystals are needed to enchant an armor above certain threshold. Dwemer and Elven Crystals require Dwemer and Elven Smithing Perks respectively;

5) Empty Crystals must be infused with essence. Craft 1 Crystal Iron Red and 1 Crystal Iron Green. Crystal quality (weak, normal or strong) you get depends on your Alchemy skill. Higher quality Crystals make stronger enchantments;

6) Now we can begin the enchantment process. Move to the second room and place 1 Red Iron Crystal into Crystal Storage (looks like an urn). Crystal Storage stores the Crystal we will use in enchantment;

7) Drop the armor you want to enchant in the middle of the Enchanting Circle (looks like the Summoning Circle from Midden). It doesn't have to be exactly in the middle, just make sure it is withing the Circle;

8 ) Activate Enchanting Circle. A message will appear showing the strength of the upcoming enchantment. Press "Enchant";

9) Enchantment is complete and the armor now has +1 Health Enchantment;

10) Crystal Enchantments can be upgraded by using more Crystals. Drop the previously enchanted armor back in the Circle, add 1 Green Iron Crystal into Crystal Storage and activate Enchantment Circle;

11) Armor enchantment is upgraded and now has +1 Health and +1 Stamina. In this tutorial we were using one Crystal at a time to demonstrate how it works. You can put multiple Crystals of different tiers and quality and use them all at once;

------------------------------------------------------------------

Crystal Tiers and Thresholds:

Crystals come in three tiers: Iron, Dwemer and Elven. Dwemer Crystals are needed to upgrade enchantment above +20; Elven - above +50. When using a higher tier Crystal on an enchantment below its threshold it strength will be doubled. For example,

a) Using a Red Dwemer Crystal(Weak) on an armor with +20 Health enchantment will upgrade it by +1. But,

b) Using a Red Dwemer Crystal(Weak) on an armor with +10 Health enchantment will give +2 Health.

Is this mod planned as alternative to the existing enchantment system or as addition to it?

Does it stack with existing enchantments?

Do you plan to distribute those crystals all over the Skyrim?

Do you plan to use it for enchanting DDs?

And why does it remind me of Dungeons and Dragons Online enchanting system? xD

Well, this mechanic is very grindy, so I assume it won't be beneficial to use it on all armor pieces player wants to wear.

It stacks only will enchantments created in the same way (using crystals). It can't upgrade any other enchantments from base game or mods. I thought about making Crystal Enchantments compatible with normal enchantments, but because of how the game engine works it could cause problems later on. It seams we can only edit enchantments as Base Forms or templates. Editing existing enchantment will effect all items in the game that have it. Though, perhaps, it can work with custom enchantments created through Arcane Enchanter. In that case the game creates a special enchantment that is attached to a specific item. It's not used anywhere else, so I guess we can edit it without effecting anything else. I'll have a look.

I can, but crystals are meant to be crafted. Gathering ingredients is time consuming, but there are mods that increase the chance of obtaining them. For example, "Complete Alchemy and Cooking Overhaul" increases the amount of herbs you can gather and "Skyrim Immersive Creatures" (if I remember correctly) can increase the number of gems you get from ore veins.

Do Devious Devices need enchantments? :)

Never played it, sorry. :) I just wanted to make something grindy, but more or less rewarding.

Usually not, they already have the right kind of an enchantment 😄
