After spending months to optimize Win 7 Pro according to personal needs and get rid of all KB Telemetry, unwanted background apps, useless functions, IE, Media Player, etc, ... the time would come to migrate for me will be for a Linux Distro. Dilios300 Posted May 21, 2018 Author Posted May 21, 2018 @skyrimowy To reinstall the update, I would have to revert to a previous version of Windows 10, then install the update again. And thats how all of this started. So call me daft, but that just sounds like a bad idea. @Fifoo I'm not sure how you could take a screenshot outside of a Steam game. Everytime I tried, it didn't work.... The message appears after a few seconds of looking at a black screen (in windowed mode, I might add which is against what I have set in the launcher) and the error appears in a secondary window.

Try this: launch Steam in Offline Mode then load your game via MO. When the error window appear hit the [PrintScreen] key and copy/paste in Paint for example.

Deep Red Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 Just wanted to say that I'm also having this same issue ever since the last Windows 10 update. I can pretty much narrow it down to that since I don't play Skyrim as much anymore, so there hasn't been any mods installed/removed in a long time. However, once that update for windows came around I was no longer able to play it at all. I've been wrestling with it the whole day and haven't found a solution yet. It was working perfectly fine until then.

Deep Red Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 A little update: So I practiced my google-fu a bit and ran into several possible solutions but one in particular stood out for me. A TES forum I stumbled across in a language I didn't recognize (but google translate did!) mentioned that this has happened before in the past with other Win 10 updates. Anyway, it also explained that it has something to do with video drivers and that it can be resolved by running the game in windowed mode. Surely enough, after switching to windowed mode it runs just fine aside from the fact that the window border is an incredible eyesore and you can't align the damned window directly in front of you. I'm not sure what that means in terms of what is the actual cause of the problem, but I'm hoping it'd help you guys pin it down more than it did with me. Too bad Skyrim doesn't support borderless windowed mode, huh?
skyrimowy Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 try this in enblocal.ini [ENGINE] AddDisplaySuperSamplingResolutions=true [WINDOW] ForceBorderless=true ForceBorderlessFullscreen=true and you need to double your resolution in skyrimprefs.ini this should run in borderless window mode without losing quality but I cannot guarantee if this work for you
Grey Cloud Posted May 22, 2018 Posted May 22, 2018 This isn't the only thread here in Tech Support dealing with a problem caused by a W10 update. Turn off automatic updates, MS has a long history of updates causing problems. I'm on Windows 7 and have never used windowed mode. Running the game, or anything else, windowed is a stupid idea to me. The OS has to use resources to run the WoW before it starts on the game. Isn't there an option in the Launcher (tick-box maybe?) to turn it off? Also, if you need to align the window with your screen you do it via your monitor's controls.
Dilios300 Posted May 22, 2018 Author Posted May 22, 2018 @Grey Cloud Windows 10 doesn't give you an option to turn off updates. Automatic or otherwise. @skyrimowy What if I dont have enb? Or more precisely, an enblocal.ini? @Johnnyred Your solution actually worked. I can now get in the main menu, but this is only a temporary solution and I would like to get the game back to normal (i.e. NOT in windowed mode, and can actually load a save). Much appreciated, though. I can now get in the main menu because of the solution that you found, and it's big step forward.
skyrimowy Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 you can have enblocal.ini without have ENB active - I do it for you in spoiler , but you propably must have d3d9.dll from ENB i don't know how much powerful is your rig maybe v0.319 v.0305 or 0.266 or lower... i'm without my skyrim now, so i can't remember if you need also enbseries.ini and just tick [GLOBAL] UseEffect=false anyway, this can give you performance boost, delicate improve graphics - shadows, sharpens edges or something ;P Spoiler [PROXY] EnableProxyLibrary=true InitProxyFunctions=true ProxyLibrary=other_d3d9.dll [GLOBAL] UsePatchSpeedhackWithoutGraphics=true UseDefferedRendering=false IgnoreCreationKit=true [PERFORMANCE] SpeedHack=true EnableOcclusionCulling=true [MEMORY] ExpandSystemMemoryX64=false ReduceSystemMemoryUsage=true DisableDriverMemoryManager=true DisablePreloadToVRAM=false EnableUnsafeMemoryHacks=false ReservedMemorySizeMb=128 VideoMemorySizeMb=0 EnableCompression=false AutodetectVideoMemorySize=true [THREADS] DataSyncMode=0 PriorityMode=0 EnableUnsafeFixes=false [MULTIHEAD] ForceVideoAdapterIndex=false VideoAdapterIndex=0 [WINDOW] ForceBorderless=false ForceBorderlessFullscreen=false [ENGINE] ForceAnisotropicFiltering=true MaxAnisotropy=2 ForceLodBias=true LodBias=-0.35 EnableVSync=true AddDisplaySuperSamplingResolutions=false VSyncSkipNumFrames=0 [LIMITER] WaitBusyRenderer=false EnableFPSLimit=false FPSLimit=59 [INPUT] KeyCombination=16 KeyUseEffect=123 KeyFPSLimit=36 KeyShowFPS=106 KeyScreenshot=44 KeyEditor=13 KeyFreeVRAM=115 KeyBruteForce=66 KeyDepthOfField=118 [ADAPTIVEQUALITY] Enable=false Quality=2 DesiredFPS=20.0 [ANTIALIASING] EnableEdgeAA=true EnableSubPixelAA=false EnableTemporalAA=false [FIX] FixGameBugs=false FixParallaxBugs=false FixParallaxTerrain=false FixAliasedTextures=true IgnoreInventory=true FixTintGamma=true RemoveBlur=true FixSubSurfaceScattering=true FixSkyReflection=true FixCursorVisibility=true FixLag=false [LONGEXPOSURE] EnableLongExposureMode=false Time=1.0 BlendMax=0.0 you can change some lines to your liking ReservedMemorySizeMb=128 /////64 or 256, 384, 512 if stuttering or something, but i think that 128 will be good everything in [ENGINE] also if you want try my trick with borderless window mode [WINDOW] ForceBorderless=true ForceBorderlessFullscreen=true [ENGINE] AddDisplaySuperSamplingResolutions=true

Dilios300 Posted May 23, 2018 Author Posted May 23, 2018 @Grey Cloud I'm well aware that it's not Skyrims fault. I said as much in my original post. ENBoost has always been a fucking pain to install and it's never worked. No performance increase, no increase in stability, nothing. In fact I'm certain the damned thing made performance worse. Thanks for that link tho. @skyrimowy I'll try it, but I'm not hopeful. As I said above, enb has never been easy and the effect in-game is often less than desirable.

skyrimowy Posted May 24, 2018 Posted May 24, 2018 ENBoost is must have mod...for low end rigs and powerful ones. As someone said in nexusmods: If you do not have it, you propably missed an era xD I never had problems with any ENB, you do something wrong By the way - ENBoost install on MAIN skyrim folder, not data
Dilios300 Posted May 24, 2018 Author Posted May 24, 2018 @Grey Cloud I'll excuse your rudeness, because I'm nice, but try not to be an ass. My most recent attempt to install enb was successful, but I still suffered massive 40 FPS frame drops. @skyrimowy As I said above, its not me, its simply the incredible amount of fps drop that I get from installing it. I'm more than most likely just as experienced as both of you, so dont treat me like I'm new. I get real ornery with patronization. But as for my issue, I would like to not have to have the game in windowed mode.

ENBoost uses only the memory part of ENB. So should be able to be installed without reducing framerate. http://wiki.step-project.com/ENBoost

Dilios300 Posted May 24, 2018 Author Posted May 24, 2018 @Grey Cloud I dont have to explain how or why it happens to you. Yes, I know how it sounds and no, I dont care. If your not going to help us fix my issue, then go away. @LazyBoot Of course there is a difference. I didn't install ENBoost on that occasion, because I got tired of the massive headache and I just installed ENB (version 3.19, I think). All of this is irrelevent though. I need a permanent fix to the problem I described in my original post.
Grey Cloud Posted May 24, 2018 Posted May 24, 2018 Have you tried setting Skyrim's screen resolution to match that of your monitor. Try reinstalling your graphics drivers from the manufacturer's website. Apparently W10 is known to install its own.
Dilios300 Posted May 24, 2018 Author Posted May 24, 2018 I've tried messing around with the aspect ratio and resolution a multitude of times with no effect. I recently updated my graphics drivers from AMD, so thats probably not it either.... But I can promise that this is the last update from Microsoft that I ever do.

Simple as a quick install to check, and uninstall if it doesn't work. Might as well give it a shot.
Dilios300 Posted May 26, 2018 Author Posted May 26, 2018 By all I hold holy, IT WORKED!!! ^_^ I can get ingame, load saves and everything! Oh my god, I could kiss you! Over the past two weeks over 16 people have tried to help, in several communities, but no-one was even close to fixing it. So I cant even begin to thank you enough for all the time and frustration you've saved me.
