Thanks for sharing your opinions about Skyrim & which version should I get in my collection :).
myuhinny Posted May 5, 2018 Posted May 5, 2018 I have skyrim legendary PC version. Skyrim PC version has a lot of mods including many adult mods for it much like how oblivion does. Skyrim has some things like HDT that controls boob butt belly bounce as well as hair and skirt physics.
jap2015 Posted May 5, 2018 Posted May 5, 2018 From a console standpoint Oblivion and Skyrim were good games at best, they were by no means my favorite. But the PC version of titles are a whole new world for RPG's because of modding. I'd say Oblivion is the black and white, while skyrim is full color. Skyrim, because of mods, is only limited by your imagination to realize your next fantasy. and yeah, legendary version.
Just Checking Posted May 5, 2018 Posted May 5, 2018 Part of the question here is why did you like oblivion so much, because the two games have some very noticeable differences. You may not like Skyrim because of them. If you're going to get skyrim I fully recommend pc version, if at all possible the original as the remaster doesn't have all the mods the original does, unless something's changed since I last checked. I don't think original is on steam anymore, though, so you'll have to find it elsewhere. Skyrim's combat isn't as fast and zippy as oblivions was, since characters move and attack much slower for the most part. Magic was... I want to say simplified, with a lot of spell effects removed and those that remain each have a handful of spells for different levels. No spellcrafting, so you just sort of find your favourites and work with them. Melee fighters have all the same weapon choices from oblivion, but more incentive to favour a certain kind over another, thanks to the perk system. If you choose to specialise in one handed swords, the perks for them do things like critical strike chance, while maces can ignore armour or similar. Because of how spells and arrows behave, though, melee characters can have a lot more trouble getting in close to ranged enemies than they did in oblivion. Finally, stealth was made more powerful in skyrim, so if you favour an assassin playstyle, you're in luck. Archery takes some getting used to since, like I said, arrows behave differently in skyrim than they did in oblivion, but once you have it figured out and have a few points in stealth so you can actually get around without people noticing you, it's super powerful, especially when you get enchantments that improve sneak attack damage. Other things that are different about skyrim is the world isn't quite as bright and colourful. That may seem like it's no big deal, but I find there's only so long I can spend looking at "Grey Mountain", "Grey Swamp" or "Empty Frozen Hellhole" before I need to go back to one of the more pretty areas and explore somewhere that actually looks like something. Guild questlines aren't as long as oblivion's were, so you sort of get that "I joined a week ago and I'm now the arch-mage" thing. Merchants have very finite gold to buy your stuff, and once you're about level 10 you'll spend more time fast travelling between towns looking for a merchant who's gold has replenished to sell your loot to than exploring to collect the loot. I myself just stop picking things up after a while unless I actually need something. And finally, after you progress the story enough, or reach a high enough level, certain enemy types can attack towns, and the townspeople are all clueless idiots that think they're God himself. Then they die horribly and after you deal with the enemies you realise all the merchants in town committed suicide because they thought they could take on a dragon while armed with nothing more than an iron dagger. Luckily, like I said before, there's lots of mods for skyrim. Basically everything I said in that last paragraph can be changed with mods should you so wish, including NPCs throwing themselves at guaranteed death. And that's something skyrim and oblivion have in common, a huge mod community that makes amazing changes and additions to the game. Their engines are different, and what can be reasonably changed in the two games isn't always the same, but for the most part if there's something you want in skyrim, odds are there's a mod for it. So if that ability to customise your game is something you liked about oblivion, skyrim still has it. I guess it might be a good idea to tell you what the games have in common. They both have huge amounts of area to explore, they both have lion/big cat enemies that start spawning around level 10 and ruin your life if you don't see them first, they both have enchanting and alchemy systems that are really fun to work with and can be abused super hard, they're both voice acted by a grand total of maybe 8 people, they both have plenty of quests to keep you busy, and they both have an outstanding modding community that has provided an incredible amount and variety of new content to the game. If that sounds good to you, find somewhere that sells steam keys for skyrim GOTY or something. The Special Edition will still work, but there's some of the more complex mods, like the ones here for instance, that people are still working one recreating for the newer version.
kapete Posted May 5, 2018 Posted May 5, 2018 Oh yes, even without mods i would say every gamer should play it and if you like rpg's its just absolute must play. I suggest getting steam version of Legendary edition for low price and maximum mod support. There are plenty of great guides to start modding it here in LL.
The First Lady of Hats Posted May 5, 2018 Posted May 5, 2018 And if you do decide to go Legendary edition, do a search for it in the steam store or ask someone fer a link, since they've "hidden" it in an effort to pimp SSE
Cynical Misanthrope Posted May 5, 2018 Posted May 5, 2018 Although Oblivion and Skyrim has their separate Pros and Cons, it depends on what you want from your game. Both of em has barely any RPG elements. And I do mean true RPG elements. Oblivions RPG elements sucked ass, but Skyrim has even less. Skyrims combat is slightly better but that ain't saying much because it still just about mashing keys. Skyrim has a perk system which is kind alright and spice up the combat a little. The magic system is a joke, but can be fixed with mods. The atmosphere is roughly the same, but can be very great depending on where you go. However, Skyrim feels more dead and it requires a lot of mods and tweaks to make it feel alive. In fact Skyrim requires shit loads of mods to make it feel great. So if you want more of the same, (exploring, killing creatures, doing quests, get rich, get overpowered) but a dumbed down streamlined game, Skyrim it is. Otherwise stick to Oblivion.

I searched for DAYYYYYS to find LE, and even asked for a link in forums and was told it was removed in early April, just before the SSE sale......So I bought SSE (sligggghtly regrettably). I only slightly regret it because I wish I had access to more of the oldrim mods, especially sexlab stuff, HDT-phys, and quite a few quest/area mods... I mean, I could convert them myself, I did for 1, but I am no programmer or coder, and there's sooooo many to port over. Then every one has a bug here or an .ini edit to tweak.....It's a painstaking process, especially if you aren't a mod dev and have no motivation/time to be. On the plus side tho, SSE is MUCH more stable (so long as your mod list is pristine), and the vanilla textures are much nicer than oldrim. You won't have to go download 10Gb+ of texture packs. Just SMIM and maybe some perephrial stuff (grass, tress, roads, stone walls). On top of that I find that it is better optimized in certain outdoor areas where I have seen/read complaints about massive FPS drops (areas of Falkreath). One thing that can't be refuted tho, is that skyrim is a great RPG if you are into low-mid fantasy. It's def not as whimsical or "bright" feeling as oblivion was at times, but it tells a lot of good stories and will have you immersed for days. P.s I HIGHLY suggest using AT LEAST 2 mods, that is the unofficial patch, and Live Another Life. I find the whole vanilla questline troublesome, in that you are railroaded into the Dragonborn role and the rest of the main quest, heck, the whole game, feels like a forced ex-machina story with little character development beyond, "Your the dragonborn, so you can do everything for us right?" Like, it realllllly starts to get old fast when your lvl freaking 6 or 10 and every NPC is like, "Oh, you're the dragonborn, water my crops! IM INCOMPETENETTTT *cries*."....like, dude, I kill DRAGONS, can't you give me any other reason. Like, maybe your busy, or maybe that's not your skill? Nope. I'm the dragonborn and apparently every person in skyrim is an inbred troglodyte that needs SPECIFICALLY MY help. I understand Oblivion kinnnnnda did that (I mean, we ARE supposed to be the heros, right?), with the "hero of kvathch" thing, but it wasn't nearly to the extent vanilla skyrim brings it. SO yeah. HIGHLY reccomend Live another life mod as you can still do the main quest, but much like in Obliv, it FEEL like an optional CHOICE. Not like you were wanton railroaded into it.

Someone with the Legendary edition can click visit store page and get a link to it like that one. ^ Unless Imma only seeing the page because I already have it.

Possibly.....Ima click it, sign in and see if I can put it in my cart. I swear I tried this last time and I got re-directed.
Cloud9-Kojack Posted May 5, 2018 Posted May 5, 2018 Well, it looks like I could buy it from steam. Wish I got this link weeks ago. lol XD I searched sooooo much for it too....Either way I'm happy with my SSE purchase. It was $25 and came with DLC....Oldrim is STILL $50 (CDN), with all the DLC....When you decided whether or not to purchase Skyrim, If you have the $$, buy oldrim if you like modding. If you're 'meh' on modding, have a good PC, and want your game to be stable, SSE is probably a better option.
