RPGs that don't shy away from sexual themes

I've been itching for some RPG goodness lately. Right now I'm enjoying Kingdoms of Amalur (a game I previously couldn't get into, oddly enough), but I can't help but feel the game lacks a certain ... sexiness? Nothing wrong with the game per se, but I have discovered over time that games that don't shy away from sprinkling some sexy spice here and there, no matter how small, tend to catch my attention just a little bit more.Ā  Whether the game simply hints at some sexual themes that the player has to pickup on or brushes over sexual themes without indulging in them, I really don't care what kind of spice it uses as long as they use some of it (Random example, I love that guy in Skyrim who literally built himself a harem of ghosts).

Ā

Alas, this isn't something I'm very knowledgeable on, and tags on Steam are not necessarily reliable as the "sexual content" one is used for, well, proper sexual content. One game I've been curious about is Divinity : Original Sin.

Ā

I've obviously played the Bethesda games. I've also played the non-latest Bioware games (DA Origins and 2, Mass Effect 1-3). I own the Witcher games but heavily prefer female protagonists. I'm not against old games, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't drop plenty of them simply because how dated they look. While I could potentially see myself go through the Dragon Age games again, I can't say I'd be that enthusiastic about it.

Have you played the pre-Bethesda Fallout games? The protagonist can become a porn star if you so choose. Interestingly enough, this closes off some potential side quests from some of the more puritanical characters. The main character can also find a spouse among some of the NPC who they presumably sire or mother the main character of the second game.

Ā

If you don't mind some heavily pixellated archaic graphics, XenoGears, its spiritual successor series XenoSaga and XenoBlade Chronicles 2 reference sex and sexuality without bringing the narrative to a halt for a sex scene which doesn't mesh with the plot in any way.

Come to think of it,Xenosaga is probably the only Japanese turn-based RPG series to date which ever featured a scene in which the female protagonist is seen wearing nothing her boyfriend's shirt while he goes without following the night after he stays over.

There is a surprising amount of cuckoldry going on in the Baldur's Gate series.Ā  Even BeamDog got in on the act.Ā  They even turn your heterosexual female into a cuckquean.Ā Ā

I do own the originial Fallout as it was given for free a while ago, tried it for a while though I dunno, I just couldn't get into it (prolly how out-dated it looks). I've also bought Xenoblade 2, got to about where Rex gets his second armor before dropping out of sheer disappointment in the bad guys. The older Xenoblades are sadly impossible to get. Though to be fair, at least for the one I played, it's more about the japanese tropes than anything, which is fine, but I do own some more ... explicit games for that.

Ā

I have Persona 4 on my PS3. Sadly after learning Golden was a thing I kinda loss motivation to play it as I was technically missing content. It's also a game I would describe as "annoying to play with a guide, annoying to play without one" as no matter how much I want to discover the game on my own, seeing dialogue choices I can't pick because my stats aren't something specific is just as annoying.

Ā

I've always been interested in the Baldur's Gate games. Probably why I have an interest in Divinity, as it looks similar in gameplay but less dated.

Ā

Wait, which Divinity?Ā  Because Baldur's Gate (even the EE once you turn off that stupid sprite outline) looks better than any Divinity after Divine Divinity.

Original Sin doesn't really have anything sexual in it. What i've played of DOS2, it doesn't either (the elves have quite revealing armors, though they aren't exactly your Warcraft elvesĀ https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1358399900 )

Ā

I'm thinking HyperDimension Neptunia games. Pretty traditional jRPGs with plenty of inside jokes about the games industry itsel, self-irony, naughty jokes, an all female cast, and a scene where everyone is naked: http://rule34.paheal.net/post/view/1586007#search=Hyperdimension_Neptunia_VII

Doesn't hurt that the music is great too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZyRfXBPGGg

I actually own some of the Neptunia games. Played the first one for a while and was enjoying the characters and banter, but the balance between mobs and bosses felt totally out of whack, as you could one-shot mobs in a zone only to get one-shotted by the boss. Though I have been thinking about giving it another try, mostly because I've finally upgraded to a widescreen monitor so I'm free of those horrible black bars top and bottom.

Ā

I feel like my first post was kinda vague. I enjoy the vibes Fallout: New Vegas gave, where sex exists and NPCs themselves will acknowledge it, unlike say Skyrim where apart from that one guy I mentioned, sex doesn't seem to exist. I mean, I enjoy my Nippon trash too, don't get me wrong, I got way too much of that, but finding those is usually much easier.

You have the wrong game in mind. Divinity : Original Sin 1 and 2 are both recentish games with heavy pen and paper vibes.

Well there is atleast one quite explicit (although completely text based) sex scene in Divinity Original Sin 2 once you reach the final act of the game. There are also a few other scenes but they are not as enganging as the one towards the end.

The difficulty spikes were "Star Ocean" high on some bosses in the first game, but i don't remember that being a problem in V or VII. (Not five and seven, Victory and Victory II, for those not in the knowĀ  )

Oh? Didn't know that. I should try to play that game, i just violently disagree with the armor system and gear scaling. Oh well, maybe it'll get the Enhanced Edition treatment too once the console version releases next August.

Unless otherwise noted all games can be played with a male or female protagonist (my preference as well):

Ā

Divinity: Original Sin 2 (Prostitution and Romance, somewhat detailed)
Baldur's Gate 2 (Prostitution and romance plus a little bit of other stuff, has some mods (BG1 didn't have any IIRC, but mods added some stuff ))
Fallout 1&2 (Prostitution and various stuff, 2 has shotgun marriages)
Arcanum (Prostitution, limited romance and various other stuff)
Expeditions: Viking (Romance + 1 other scene each)
Witcher 3 (Male protagonist, yes... but you get to play a female character in interludes. Sadly, she misses having her own sex scene by a hair (stupid developers <_<))
Jade Empire (There's IIRC one implied scene due to romance)
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines (One scene + Quite a bit of innuendo)
Temple of Elemental Evil (The Circle of 8 restored a brothel, you can also get married)
Pillars of Eternity (There's a brothel)
Realms of Arkania (There's brothels (in 3 and I think in 1&2 as well) and a seduction skill (inherited from the Pen&Paper system), but the latter is barely used)

Ā

I kinda wish they'd move their "hey, we have sexual content" beyond "there be a brothel here"

It does feel more like an easy way out rather than a proper mature addition, doesn't it?

Ā

Though that's a nice list. Should one play Original Sin 1 before 2 or does it not matter. I seem to have seen a lot more praise for the latter.

DOS 1 and 2 aren't really connected. There's few thousand years between the events of the games. Some shared themes, even characters, but nothing major.

DOS2 no question looks and sounds prettier and has much better role-playing opportunities. Personally i prefer the first game, though.

Ā

Oh yeah, "Salty Mast" (*snicker*) in PoE. You can pay for a fade to black.

At least New Vegas had suggestive sounds ;)

I don't know why I forgot to mention the Fable series but you can have the main character of the first installmentĀ be a drag queen prostitute if you'd like. The other parts of the series go into other sexual themes including old fashioned reproductive sex leading to the existence of the main character of the third game and possibly whisking away one's old flame from their new married life to beĀ a memberĀ of the main character's harem.

Maybe, in the back of my head, I didn't include it because of all of the chatter about it not being a 'real' RPG.

How did you forget the sheep?

That falls under prostitution, too.

Ā

From my memory, your character can

Ā

Spoiler

-spend money with a variety of prostitutes... including Belle. The Sheep.

-work as a prostitute

-sleep with someone to get access to a club (or alternatively scare them to death... or just kill them)

-seduce a widow

-romance an elven princess

-sleep with the dark elven queen (which helps you escape)

-have holy sex with a priestess

-..and her whole congregation during a religious orgy

Ā

...and I got the feeling I forgot about a couple of things.

Need to replay that sometime

It's JRPG Style and an adult game rather than a regular game with adult themes, but I made Overwhored - a story where you're a bad guy trying to take over the world. If the male protagonist thing isn't a hard stop it might be fun for you.

Ā

Ā

It's freely available and it's an adult RPG, so give it a look if it seems interesting.Ā

examples please?

in most of those games, there are prostitutes, in some you can even have a romantic night with them.

there's romance with sex, although not graphic.

they had to cut the player from having sex with the streetwhores.

Ā

There are several unimportant NPCs in the first game with cheating spouses that you find out in dialogues.

In SoD the het-male romance with Safana ends with her having sex with everyone but you.

Again in Sod, the het-female romance with the new bard ends with him having sex with Safana but not you.

The Paladin you meet in the sewers of the second game has a marriage in the sewers and you can have her executed or reconcile the relationship.

And again same as the first game there are more unimportant NPCs with cheating spouses.

Ā

Weird stuff happens in Edmonton...

BG1 & BG2 actually have a really cool mod called 'Romantic Encounters', where the creators kinda sprinkled encounters all throughout the game.

http://www.gibberlings3.net/bg_romanticencounters/

The writing is quality, and it's not really in-your-face type stuff. Think it fits what you're looking for.

Was actually a great incentive for me to finish both gamesĀ ?

Can you please share the file for BG1RE if you happen to have it. I just re-installed Baldur's Gate Trilogy, and it appear that I only have the BG2 version of this mod, and of course, G3 is still offline...

Regrettably I don't have it anymore. Hopefully they bring G3 back soon.
