Trykz Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 Finally, after weeks of rebuilding from the ground up, and months of Bethesda navmesh bugs, I bring you: Mjana's Labyrinth is no ordinary player house mod. Because the player actually "owns" very little here. A few chests, some mannequins, but not much else. Player houses are boring. There are hundreds to choose from on Nexus if that's what you're looking for. So what exactly is Mjana's Labyrinth? First and foremost it is a framework of vanilla and a few custom assets for mod authors to build under, plug their mod into, and expand it's depth and complexity. But how is this useful to the average, non-modding player? Simple. It's a required asset repository for every mod built under it. Any mod built under this framework will use it's assets to hook in their mod. So essentially, any mod you wish to install that was built under this framework, will only work if you have this installed as well. You can safely leave items in the chests, or place armor on the mannequins. Mistress Mjana will rent you the entire upper floor "guest suite" for a mere 10 gold a day. You'll find crafting facilities here as well. Enchanting and Alchemy at the rear of the guest suite, and Blacksmiting two levels down in the Steamworks. All staffed by qualified vendors who will sell you whatever items you need to advance those skills (leveled). The Steamworks also contains a large pool for bathing, or a nice relaxing swim. Concerned about security? Well fear not! For the castle is staffed by a more than capable guard force as well. Every guard is level 80, essential, and armed to the teeth with skills, weapons, spells, and armor to sufficiently protect you (and the castle's inhabitants) from any "unsavory" types. Be wary though..... they take their jobs VERY seriously, and WILL kill you if you happen to actually "be" the unsavory type However, if you do happen to "slip up", they will give you a chance to surrender and pay a fine, or serve a suitable sentence in their very own "detention center". The castle's detention center is inescapable. There are no trapdoors, secret loose grates or knobs. You WILL pay your fine or serve your time. Did I mention that it's "co-ed"? And for the ladies..... you may want to be careful here. Because in your cell will be two VERY umm...... horny Redguards When you are sent here, you are stripped entirely of everything (except quest items of course). And no, you DO NOT get a "prisoner outfit". You get a simple bedroll on the floor to serve your time in (Horace and Henry have already claimed the beds) But hey, at least you'll be treated better than the staff that got out of line: ------------------------------------------------------------- If the castle interior looks familiar, it's because many of the interior cells are from the first version of the Vjarkell Castle mod. The mod was so awesome in it's construction and layout, I simply HAD to have it for this platform. I stripped out a lot of unnecessary stuff, made a whole bunch of changes/additions, built a new exterior for it in Tamriel, and built the labyrinth hub off of it. It's in the same general location as the original Mjana's Labyrinth/Fallsview Lodge, right near Hillgrund's Tomb, up the path from Fort Amol. That said, using this has a couple of requirements: First, the Dawnguard DLC is REQUIRED. This is because the castle is constructed of many Dawnguard assets. Also, Mjana's armor is BBP Blackmarsh armor. The decision to require Dawnguard was not one I made lightly. Nor did I make it on my own. So if you missed the community poll I held last month that determined this, you have my sincerest apologies. The BBP requirement is more or less to insure that everything retains compatibility as the labyrinth platform grows. Having the necessary files installed doesn't mean you're required to use a BBP body replacer. In fact, it works just the opposite. You CAN use a non-BBP body with a BBP skeleton and other support files. However, I HIGHLY recommend using it. It's the only way to experience what some mods have to offer to their fullest potential In the package: In the package below you'll find the BSA and ESM for the base mod. You'll also find an Updater ESP. These MUST NOT be altered in any way. Altering the MjanasLabyrinth.esm OR the MjanasLabyrinthUpdater.esp runs a significant risk of breaking everything built upon this platform if they were mistakenly released to the public. If you aren't an experienced mod author, well versed in using the Creation Kit, then I STRONGLY recommend just enjoying the ride and NOT opening this in the CK to see what "makes it tick". With that, I'll be creating a separate thread (tomorrow morning sometime) just for authors looking to build their mod onto this, with detailed instructions for getting everything loaded into the CK, and how to hook your mod into the labyrinth hub through one of it's many doors.------------------------------------------------------ You will undoubtedly notice some hiccups and oddities as you explore the castle and labyrinth hub. Many of which are Bethesda issues which I cannot resolve after weeks of trying. Nothing you find should be "game-breaking", and only a mere occasional annoyance. DO NOT try to fix these issues yourself. If you must know why, then re-read the "In the package" paragraph above. If you have questions about possibly hooking your mod into Mjana's Labyrinth, please hold them until I post the other thread tomorrow. This thread will be reserved for users exclusively, and the other for mod authors exclusively. With that, here's the files: Mjana's Labyrinth Oh, and keep an eye out (in a few short hours) for the very first mod to hook into the labyrinth: Mjana's Playground..... edit: I knew I forgot something: Load Order MjanasLabyrinth.esm (with the other ESMs near the top) MjanasLabyrinthUpdater.esp (should be okay anywhere below the ESM, but should probably be kept beneath any other mod created under this framework) This mod is a LoversLab exclusive. It is not to be distributed in whole or part anywhere else. Trykz
Trykz Posted September 1, 2012 Author Posted September 1, 2012 This post will be used to list and link any plug-ins created under the Mjana's Labyrinth framework. It is also a reference location for mod authors to track available doors, by listing the doors currently in use by their reference ID. So to start things off: Mjana's Playground (labyrinth door reference ID 0307E319) Trykz
DSXX Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 Nice. But I'm assuming there's no quest for this etc.. involved?
Trykz Posted September 2, 2012 Author Posted September 2, 2012 Nice. But I'm assuming there's no quest for this etc.. involved? Nope. I was considering it early on, but decided against it. It's hidden on the map, but easy enough to find if you focus on the area around Hilgrund's Tomb and Fort Amol. I don't really want the castle to be the focus of the mod, as much as the mods that get hooked into the labyrinth. The castle was just a base to build the labyrinth framework on. Which is why the player doesn't get to actually "own" it. The rental scheme is more or less a minor gold sink. There's a full faction system in place for mod authors that hook in to use to create guards, citizens, or any other NPCs in their mod which will utilize the crime faction system and jail. The mod I'm about to release a little later tonight, is more or less an example of how everything ties together between mods, how NPCs are set up, and how assets from the base mod are used in the plug-in. What you see here is the result of what I conceptualized back when I made the original Mjana's Labyrinth. A community framework that anyone can hook into and expand, with a lot of the boring stuff already in place and ready to use.
ds64 Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 wow, interesting... I wanna ask, if you stay in jail, did it affect your skill? Like in vanilla?? (decrease in skill)
Trykz Posted September 2, 2012 Author Posted September 2, 2012 wow' date=' interesting... I wanna ask, if you stay in jail, did it affect your skill? Like in vanilla?? (decrease in skill) [/quote'] I didn't test it that long (long enough to make sure everything worked properly), but I believe it will. The crime faction and jail are set up just like most of the vanilla hold faction/jail systems. There are a number of factions that are all tied together by a common crime faction. Vendors, citizens, prisoner, guards, etc.... Any NPC added by another mod can use these factions by simply adding the crime faction to the NPCs faction list, and setting the crime faction in the dropdown box on the actor form.
Guest Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 can you post a screenshot of the location in the map
shunter Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 can you post a screenshot of the location in the map This. I can't find it despite looking everywhere near the areas the OP mentioned.
mogon Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 can you post a screenshot of the location in the map This. I can't find it despite looking everywhere near the areas the OP mentioned. it's south of hillgrunds tomb. if you reach the tomb, turn left, there's no way, but you can go southwards under the trees until you reach a big fallen tree that allows rivercrossing. From there, You can see the entrance. Well - i see it, but cannot reach it. I found the dwarwen-made may, but it ends nowhere. i try to reach the entrance from above, but i think, there is something missing. The door is unreachable about 5meter above the ground, no stairs, ladders etc. or do i miss something? help please :-)
jagdiv Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 you should put the playground.esp under the updater.esp.
Trykz Posted September 2, 2012 Author Posted September 2, 2012 The door is unreachable about 5meter above the ground, no stairs, ladders etc. Missing static objects is a Bethesda issue that mod authors have been dealing with for quite a while now. When you reach the stone path, save the game and exit completely to the desktop. Restart the game and load the last save you made. This is only required once per character. you should put the playground.esp under the updater.esp. For now this doesn't really matter. But if/when I need to make changes or update the castle, labyrinth, or any assets, it will need to be below everything else so those changes are reflected across the board. So it's probably best to load it last right from the start.
mogon Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 you should put the playground.esp under the updater.esp. argh... you mean - like it is written in the description? My fault (edit: oh no, bethesdas :-) sigh thanks a lot! btw - very nice mod!
ds64 Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 well.. that was big... that really are a labyrinth.. hey good job on the miniature villages, that was cool man. and the statue at the castle too.
shunter Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 Very nice mod. However, for some reason I CTD a lot when I'm exploring the place, specially when entering/exiting areas.
Trykz Posted September 3, 2012 Author Posted September 3, 2012 Very nice mod. However' date=' for some reason I CTD a lot when I'm exploring the place, specially when entering/exiting areas. [/quote'] The only thing I could think of that might possibly cause this, is if you aren't using a BBP body replacer. Mjana's armor is BBP, and she roams the entirety of the castle. It sounds as if she might be in a room you enter. If that's indeed the case, just get Cherry's CHSBHC body, and install everything but the body meshes (which will preserve the body you're currently using if you don't want BBP). If not, then I have no idea.

jimmy1971 Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 Hi Trykz, Thankyou for your work this mod is excellent!! Could I ask whether you have spoken to other modders regarding future expansions? Do you know if they are working on them? Thanks again
Guest norskinator Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 for some reason i can't equip mjanas armor. that's the only thing that dosen't seem to work.
MKCyrax Posted October 27, 2012 Posted October 27, 2012 can you make a map, i haven't seen it for half an hour of searchinh
« Broken ‡ Mirror » Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 Can anyone post a map with the location? Nope. Trykz made it clear that everyone is supposed to find the Labyrinth themselves.
