Mrod23 Posted December 25, 2017 Posted December 25, 2017 Here is an odd thing, as I cannot find refrence to it in other threads (krosis if I missed one) Recently my game freezes just after the first Silver Hand tussle with Farkas as he transitions into Werewolf in the Proving Honor quest. That goes as expected, but when Farkas goes and pulls the lever to unstick the gate, the game freezes solid. I've looked through the papyrus script (attached) and a common theme happens at the end ERROR: (0001A693): cannot fetch variable named FNISaa_sprint of type int, returning 0. This happens multiple times and gives the same stack references at the very end of the log. I have no idea if this is related to the freeze, but I can say that it is fairly recent. My XPMSE is 3.94, my FNIS is 7.0. My load order is attached too. Any help is appreciated. Cheers Mrod Papyrus.0.rar CurrentModLoadOrder.txt
Nazzzgul666 Posted December 25, 2017 Posted December 25, 2017 I had this once and appearently it's a vanilla bug that can happen. I don't really remember how i solved it, but it was rather annoying than complicated... i'd try to load an older save, in case of doubt before you started the quest.

The "workaround given was to start a game finish that quest and THEN run FNIS and start ALL your other mods. I have about 120 mods, so I just ignore the companions completely. I don't like werewolves anyway. IF I really want the Dragon Word, I just TLC through the place, get the the glowy Dragon Scratch, and leave the way I came.

Maybe just to remind me for the next time I read some different posts and solutions and some helped and some maybe didn't. In my last installation I thougt it would be related to UFO, if you have any other follower (even if just waiting somewhere not fully dismissed). But in my testing this turned out wrong. Finally i finished the Quest via console, because I was not able to progress any further (no Silver Hand NPCs in later dungon) after Gate opening. This time experiencing this bug I read it could be a FNIS or Vampire (Dawnguard) problem. Maybe also a skeleton crash, when Farkas transforms WW->H. But I did not wanted to deinstall all mods until I could disable Dawnguard.esm. (yes, i use LOOT and Wrye Bash) So I tryed an other way I read about to use disable on Farkas. This is what I want to share: Proceed normally until you are locked behind the gate. (I just dismissed any other follower before sending Farkas to Dustmans to meet there, but I think you can tell Farkas to follow there, too) When Farkas faces the Silver Hand standing in the middle of the room and the Silver Hand starts their dialog "which one is it?" "Does not matter, wearing this armor he will die" Open console and click or PRID Farkas, then disable prid 1A693 disable you can also disable the gate in front of you, for me there still was an invisible barrier. That's fine! (maybe it is there to stop the NPCs seeing the PC in any way) (If you disable any of the smoke or other stuff until finding the gate: doesn't matter, happened to me too. But do not disable any Silver Hand NPC!) After all disabling you should still be unable to draw you weapon. That's fine! I think that means the Quest sktipt is still running. After the dialog finished and the Silver Hand NPCs stepped in front of the Gate, you have to get rid of them. They all have only 1 HP (for Farkas to one-hit them in WW form) I tried the kill command via console, which didn't worked the first tries (maybe just wrong target in console ) After few seconds, when the dialog finished and they had no target to attack, one of the SH startet attacking the others, maybe you wait for that or use kill command properly (The team attack might be a fallback when they could manage Farkas to go down) At least the last SH has to be killed via console If you didn't before, now disable the gate You should be able to do anything, after all SH are dead again. You can draw the weapon and move out of the (former) cell through the disabled gate. If that is not the case for you, please comment here, because my solution might not work in any case then. Reenable Farkas (do not panic, if you have no click reference for him, use PRID) prid 1A693 enable Talk to Farkas. Even if you did not saw him transforming, you should get the dialog to ask him, what happened. PROCEED Quest normally German Version, because I am (sorry for my english ) Spoiler Ich spare mir hier mal die Herleitung und schreibe nur die Lösung des Problems mit dem Freeze im Staubmannsgrab mit Farkas. Erstmal wird der Quest normal begonnen. Wenn mit farkas gesprochen wird, sollten nur keine anderen Begleiter im Gefolge sein, sonst gibt es evtl noch mehr Probleme. Wenn die Silberne Hand den Raum betritt und der Dialog beginnt "Welcher ist das?" "Ist doch egal, wenn er diese Rüstung trägt, stirbt er!" Konsole öffnen und klick auf Farkas oder Fokus mit PRID, dann mit disable deaktivieren prid 1A693 disable Es kann auch das Gitter vor dem Spieler deaktiviert werden, es sollte noch eine unsichtbare Barriere dort sein. Das ist ok so! (Die Barriere soll den Spieler vermutlich vor den NPC verbergen) (Wenn ihr beim versuch das Tor zu deaktivieren auch anderes Zeug deaktiviert, kein Problem, ist mir auch passiert. Hauptsache keine Silberne Hand deaktivieren!) Nach dem deaktiveren von Farkas und dem Tor sollte man trotzdem keine Waffe ziehen und noch nicht in den Raum laufen können. Das ist ok so! Ich schätze das bedeutet, das Quest-Skript läuft noch normal. Nach dem Dialog und nachdem die NPCs an das Tor herangetreten kommen, müssen sie jetzt (leider) sterben. Sie ahben alle nur 1 HP (Damit Farkas sie als WW one-hit töten kann) Ich habe es mit dem kill Befehl via Konsole probiert, was beim ersten Versuch aber nicht geklappt hat (vielleicht einfach falsche Referenz in der Konsole gehabt ) Nach wenigen Sekunden hat von alleine ein NPC angefangen die anderen anzugreifen. Entweder darauf warten, oder den kill Befehl richtig benutzen Mindstens der letzte NPC muss per Konsole gekillt werden Wenn noch nicht geschen, jetzt das Tor per disable entfernen Jetzt sollte die volle Kontrolle wieder erlangt sein. (Waffe ziehen und durch das deaktiverte Tor in den Raum treten). Wenn das nicht so ist, bitte eine Antwort posten, weil dann meine Lösung wohl nicht immer funktioniert. Incubusbul Posted May 25, 2019 Posted May 25, 2019 In the meantime, I've found an even easier workaround for this bug (which in my case leads to a total game crash every time Farkas turns into a werewolf and kills the Silver Hand NPCs). Right after he kills the bad guys, I open the console and enter 'coc whiterundragonsreach'. My character teleports in Dragonsreach. Then I go outside, teleport back at the entrance of the Dustman's Cairn, using the map, where a follower of mine is waiting for me to finish the buggy quest. So I enter the dungeon with her, go to Farkas who's waiting inside and the quest continues with no further issues, but with an extra hand from my follower. I hope this will be of some help to someone that is about to get to this point for the first time. Cheers.

I made similar to you, just with a different path: 'coc ctest', then 'coc riverwood', followed by a fast travel to the Dustman's Cairn. Thanks again!

This frees my character from the room but it also prevents Farkas from moving to the other lever. I then travel back to the entrance and just before exiting, I toggle collisions back on and immediately leave. I then reenter Dustman's Cairn and return to Farkas who is back in human form and greets my character as if he has just freed him, even though the gate is still closed. In other words, Farkas never touches the lever. I was then able to complete the dungeon normally.

It was a nexus mod for a few weeks,a few years ago, didn't do anything for invisible npcs, made game freeze when farkas did transformation. For invisible npcs the best fix was to adjust hdt bbp.xml file in hdt/skse/plugins info on first post, maybe this mod does it for you(I did manually from a different post I had found here on LL) https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/88223?tab=posts Think thi9s was my source..
