Shadowhawk827 Posted November 19, 2017 Posted November 19, 2017 Keeping this simple, I'm looking for feedback on where people deal with heavy vampire (or dragon) attacks outside of cities and towns. I'm working on the next upgrade to Dawnguard Sentries. The current version has Sentries outside of Riften and Solitude, where *I* constantly got hit by attacks. I recently heard that others have had major issues near the Whiterun or Windhelm stables though. Anywhere else?
Derpakiin Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 I'm not sure about the rates of vampire attacks but I do know that the attacks die down once you complete the main quest and kill Harkon. Other than that, the area around Riverwood and Rorikstead seem to be common. Keep in mind though that vampire attacks seem to be attached to where the player is and the time since the last attack. That means vampire spawn areas are not dependent on towns, but rather where the player is and can spawn anywhere on the map within the player cell.
RW311 Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 In story manager quest node, dlc1VQ00VampireAttackNodePM and dlc1VQ00VampireAttackNodeAM you can find the conditions but there is nothing location specific that I've seen. I think if you are going to a certain town or city often then it will be more likely to land on the timer so someone could believe it was more common in certain places.
Shadowhawk827 Posted November 20, 2017 Author Posted November 20, 2017 Yep, I remember that the game basically just spawns them at random where ever the character is. I did a lot of visiting to Whiterun though and never had a problem at the stables. Point being that even though it's SUPPOSED to be random, etc... It seems like the game favors some areas over others. Never saw a dragon in Windhelm for example, but I could go tp Dragon Bridge and have at least1 attack every visit. Yeah I know, dragons vs vampires, but the root trigger script is essentially the same.
ther1pper Posted November 22, 2017 Posted November 22, 2017 I ain't gonna lie, Vampires are so strong in my game and kill npc's so quick i just use the console or complete the dawnguard quest whenever i've become sick of them popping up in cities. I don't mind finding them outside cities and towns, but when you kill my favorite merchant or blacksmith, you've crossed the line.

That kind of situation is exactly what my mod is supposed to protect against. Run For Your Lives as an additional mod with it helps too. I'm guessing you're playing with mods that strengthen the vampires?

Revenge of the enemies makes everyone stronger Forsworn are the scariest, also even vanilla dawnguard against vampires aren't that tough, so i have to do it. Though because i know may way around the creation kit a little i could probably just beef up the dawnguards weapons giving them silver effects.
Veladarius Posted November 25, 2017 Posted November 25, 2017 I have had vampire attacks at all of the major cities and the mod 'Run for your lives' usually makes it worse for the vampires as all of the outside npc's show up at the same time as the vampires, toss the city guard in and the vampires are usually dead under a minute with no civilian casualties. Any issues at the stables is usually from the hounds and I usually take care of those, I can usually tell they are outside when no one comes back out of the inn. If they are lucky they may kill a horse before I get there. Out on the road I just get the typical pair who call you over and then attack, nothing difficult to handle. Guards in my game are (for some reason) extremely tough. For some reason every so often a group of 4 guards leaves the city, goes to a nearby bandit location and wipes them out with no losses on the guard's side. I have had a number of times where I went to go after a bounty only to just get there and be informed that the Bandit Leader is dead and I can collect my reward and the 4 guards come wandering out like it was no big deal.
SkyAddiction Posted November 26, 2017 Posted November 26, 2017 I shut down both dragons and vampires entirely with Timing is Everything. Sure, the occasional dragon will land and die out in the wilderness, but I never run the main quest (play as non-dovahkiin) and the random vampires are just annoying.
