Custom Race Mods by Trykz (undergoing reconstruction)

Just wanted to say thank you and show you some things I've been working on. I'm still relatively new with the CK, but I recently learned how to make my own standalone followers. Here's my Frost Elf follower, Elorwen:

attachment.php?aid=14201

Unfortunately she's not a real Frost Elf (don't have it installed atm) because for some reason, even with ApachiiHairs.esm loaded, I can't select any hairs other than vanilla with the Frost Elf race in the CK. So once I figured out how to make standalone followers, this is one of the first I wanted to come back to as I love your Frost Elf race. Anyway, the rest of my party:

I made Misa and Lusia standalone followers thanks to your preset and your awesome pre-edited character faces thread. My PC is on the right just to show that I don't have any of those extra face replacer packs that I really don't like installing. :)

Thanks for all your hard work on these fantastic races, and especially for all the extra tips and things you do on the side as well. :)

Hm, I just noticed that my Frost Elf followers complexion can't be set to Frost Elf, so I guess she has my usual Bella's makeup instead of her shiny face. That's something I haven't been able to figure out yet. Ah well.

And just when I thought I was done addin races to my game I stumble across this gem =n.n= So far so good tho during creation my hands were darker then my body (Dark elf) but after that everything's rather smooth. Keep up the good work.

When I test character creation' date=' I usually run the test with the game in windowed mode so I can monitor the system tab to see what's going on. I found that when this issue occurs, the video driver process is spiked, and hogging all the graphics card memory. Usually it's just a matter of exiting the racemenu, closing the game, and then restarting to clear it up. Occasionally though, I find that I need to completely restart the system.

P.s. Any word on yer Labyrinth mod or takins a break from it? (Forgive me for asking if you already mentioned something about its progress alreaady. As much as I try to keep track of worth-wile mods some information escapes even me... /sadface)

Mjana's Labyrinth was placed on hold until Dawnguard, and to give me some time to finish up some race mods I'd been working on. Well, Dawnguard is here, and I have one race left to finish up (just need to work out the abilities and effects), and then I'll be taking a break from race modding for a while to work on Mjana's Labyrinth full-time.

That said, there is a LOT of stuff in the Dawnguard BSA that I'd really like to use. So I'm kind of stuck with tossing around the idea of whether or not to make the Dawnguard DLC a requirement. I don't normally care for making things required to use my mods. But given the popularity of the DLC, it may not be so much of an issue for most players. I'll settle on that choice when I get this last race mod finished and released sometime this week.

If I do use the Dawnguard stuff, I'll be scrapping a lot of what I've already made. There's just too many awesome locations in the DLC that are much more fitting to what I ultimately want to achieve. I'm thinking I may just build an entirely separate worldspace, with everything I want to use within it. With each passing day, this project gets much bigger in concept. So I REALLY need to get started LOL

Mayatola:

good to hear you're finding a lot of use for all that. Keep fiddling with the CK, and you'll eventually figure it out. There's tutorials for just about every part of it, so just find the ones you need and use them as references as you try different stuff.

There really is no "step by step" process to using it. It's pretty much trial and error. And if something doesn't work, just delete it and try again :)

Nice characters by the way ;)

Just wanted to say thanks for the wonderful races. I just spent over 20 hours playing just the Guardian race alone.

Love the effect on Frost elf skin.:D:heart:

Gonna try to add some Dovahteens as NPCs.

Thank you

does the night elf and guardian race come with its own custom follower as well?

The only one I included a follower with is The Demoness.

Followers are generally easy to make. There's a bunch of YouTube tutorials that detail the process, and you can learn the basics from the one on the CK website.

It only gets complicated when you start adding custom hair and other customization options to them.

Very nice :D

It feels even better when they attract Nexus users over here to download them LOL

Lots of people don't yet realize that Nexus isn't the only game in town. I aim to change that :P

Oh wow! Any chance of getting you to share your followers? Very nice. How do you get group pictures with poses like that?

On another note, I haven't downloaded the updated race files as I am still having no issues with my moonshadow elf dawnguard vampire. I keep expecting to run into an issue, but it's been smooth sailing. Weird but I'm happy.

Just a quick edit: I can share my followers if I can get them working correctly with Apachii Hair in the CK with the original races they are from.

As for the group photos, I have to use the console to set them up. First I select the pose I want to use with Pinup Poser and cast it on the follower, then bring up console, use the "tc" command to control them, move them into the right spot, then "tc" again and "tai" to shut them off. For exact positioning, you can use the setpos x, setpos y, setangle z commands. I highly recommend checking out Pinup Poser screenshooting tips misc file for more info on how to use those commands as well as more great tips.

Awesome, I will give that a try. Thanks for the info. And I hope you are able to get your followers working correctly. Thanks again.

I've been wanting to make a race using my own special BodySlide CBBEv3 body. So I used it for my Stygian race mod:

(warning, big pics)

SS001.jpg

SS002.jpg

I'm currently adding transparent tattoos to the body's gloss layer, which will be kept in a separate folder outside of the BSA for those who want the gloss, but not the transparent tattoos (just take the texture out of the folder). You can also use that same folder to change the level of gloss to something more preferable.

I have a few more things to finish up in the CK, and this should be good to go by the weekend. The body starts with the CB++ "small" settings on the low end of the weight scale, and appears as pictured at 100 weight. It will morph to whatever CBBE armors (BBP or otherwise) you're currently using without issue. But for those who like the look, I recommend rummaging through this thread to make some form-fitting armors from those that are currently available using the XML file I'll include in the package.

That said, this will be my last released race mod for a while (probably a few months or so), as I turn my undivided attention toward the near total rebuild of Mjana's Labyrinth. I created a new thread with a simple poll to help me continue it's direction with the community's help, which you can find here if you'd like to participate.

So here's how the transparent markings currently look:

StygianTats001.jpg

Depending on the available lighting they have to interact with, they're either completely invisible, or stand out from the rest of the body as you see here.

I'm debating adding a few more to the face, legs, and arms. But we'll see.

Salutations! Firstly' date=' thanks for sharing. I'm writing because I'm actually having trouble with the moonshadow elf racial, and was wondering, is Dawnguard required to make it work? I haven't gotten around to buying it yet(finances are a bit tight, so I was planning on praying for a Steam winter sale or something, ha)

Help would be appreciated getting it to work.

edit: This is my first post? Apologies for being such a hardcore lurker, lol

[/quote']

LOL, no worries.

Dawnguard is not a requirement to play the race. Did you use one of the many potions from the dozen or so taverns I placed them in? Because of the effects, it couldn't be auto-applied at character creation. So the potions were to only other solution available.

Alternatively, type this into the console:

help moonshadow 4

You'll see a list of stuff pop up. Use the Page Up key to scroll up through the list until you find he potions. The 8 character item ID is what you need. Type the following into the console next:

player.additem 1234ABCD 1

1234ABCD will be replaced by the item ID you found for whichever potion you want to use. The (NV) potion doesn't add the spectral effect, but is substantially weaker. The normal potion is much more beneficial, but turns your character spectral from 8pm to 5am game time.

Let me know how you make out :)

Well I wanted to say thanks for the dovahteens race... Just some questions...

Will you support CHSBSC? If not is this hard to do? (I know next to nothing about modelling and skeletons)

Also, for my other char (a Nidia thanks for this one too) I use this pack:

Alan's BBP Armor pack 2.0

Also it seems it uses this file for the breast size:

meshes\actors\character\character assets female\skeleton_female.nif

If you won't do it, could give me some pointers, please?

Here's the thing:

the troubles with suppoting multiple bodies FAR outweigh the benefits. Especially with less experienced users, who almost always end up having major issues. Such as texture mismatches, or neck seams. Then there's my personal favorite, "why doesn't it look like the pictures?" after which they proceed to tell me how they changed the head textures (including the normal map which can have a HUGE impact on character appearance).

Unfortunately, supporting multiple bodies also multiplies the work required, as well as making the mods far too big. My mods are fully standalone, and only share skeletons (unless they need something special) and customizations (hair, makeup, warpaints, etc.) with vanilla races. To support multiple body types would essentially force me to either build multiple versions so they can remain standalone, or go back to releasing 100mb+ mods. Neither of which I'm willing to even consider.

The only two races I have released at the moment that use a standalone skeleton, are Dovahteens (which slightly alters the body shape) and The Demoness (for the tail animations). The Nidia race shares whatever skeleton is being used by the vanilla races. So whatever skeleton you use with the BBP armor pack will be used by the Nidia race as well. Unless you're using an earlier version of the mod, which may have used a separate skeleton. But I don't recall atm if I used a separate skeleton or not.

Well I was talking about my dovahteen, my nidia (reading back my post it was not really clear sorry) works fine... I understand of course you don't want to support it (You don't even need to justify)... That's why I asked a few pointers, or links toward tutorials on how to do it... I don't know if I'll manage... But at least I want to try...

Hmm..... I'll need to think about that. Altering that race would require unpacking the BSA and changing a LOT of parts that are meant to work together. Which runs a huge risk of breaking the mod completely. Just explaining that process would require that I rebuild the entire mod to make sure alternative parts work right with what's in the BSA now. Having taken over three months to initially build, I'm not really interested in undertaking that task right now :s

Posted

I didn't realized it was so much work. And as a beginner, i think it would be best to go for simpler stuff first...

Then I may come back to you...

Thanks for your time and answers...
