Rooker Posted July 30, 2017 Posted July 30, 2017 I keep getting that infuriating bug where it won't draw a hotkeyed weapon for several seconds. Google says it's a pretty common problem but nobody seems to know how to fix it. Any ideas? Note: I reinstalled the game on a SSD just yesterday and can now say with 100% certainty that the issue has nothing to do with hard drive speed, because there is zero difference between the SSD and the HDD I was using before today.
D_ManXX2 Posted July 30, 2017 Posted July 30, 2017 could be graphical or custom animations ?? what type textures mods are you using and are you using any custom animations ??? I don't think this can be fixed, the only advice i found is use pipboy to switch weapons the favorite menu is bugged when switching through weapons and causes the 1-2 seconds delay.. I think what is happening is everytime the weapon needs to render you can still move normally just have to wait till the weapon is loaded in your hands.
Rooker Posted July 30, 2017 Author Posted July 30, 2017 The only weapon animation is the lowered 1st person mod. I'm running the 4k upscaled texture mod right now, but it was doing this before with just the vanilla textures. In fact, there was no noticeable difference between vanilla and the 4k textures and no difference between the HDD and the SSD in how this issue behaves. The only thing I can do when it happens is open the pip-boy and just select the weapon, which defeats the purpose of having it hotkeyed.
2Dimm Posted July 30, 2017 Posted July 30, 2017 for me its just the textures, my game was taking too long to load and i had this problem while switching weapons using this http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/25714/? plus this in my MO mods folder http://www.loverslab.com/files/file/4327-fallout-4-texture-compressor/ helped me A LOT, now my weapons switch pretty much as fast as they should and the game loads really fast and i haven't noticed my game quality going down at all

D_ManXX2 Posted July 31, 2017 Posted July 31, 2017 Not sure if this can help: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/11127? never used it but does seem to explain it is a texture issue so this mod compresses the weapons in better format in order to be able to swap better.,
flatliner10 Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 Check you'r Fallout4.Ini In the "Archive" section the following entry's must look like that: bInvalidateOlderFiles=1 sResourceDataDirsFinal= While already on it also check your Fallout4Custom.ini for this entry's. Some older Mods and guides might have placed a bunch of Directory's to search trough, which slows down texture loading. You shuld find these Files in your Documents at "My Games\Fallout4"

Looks good to me, both entry are there and not overridden by the other ini. Rest is Vanilla stuff. So culprit is probably elsewhere.
ssddsquare Posted August 7, 2017 Posted August 7, 2017 Could it be custom modded weapon texture too large? I am gaming on SSD and have no issue, but one time I try run the game from USB drive, the whole game runs fine until I change weapons and armor. The vanilla ones are fine, but it takes few seconds for mod weapons to swap. Maybe try 1080p instead of 4k.
guk Posted August 7, 2017 Posted August 7, 2017 I had this problem a lot with an unmodded vanilla FO4 back after the game's release, weapons would frequently take several seconds to switch. Right now i'm playing both ENB+ReShade, and a mix of vanilla (melee weapons, missile launcher, fatman) and custom weapons (mostly Skibadaa's), sometimes there is a tiny delay (<1sec) but nothing that hampers with gameplay. Actually i thought this was caused by script lag, but just in case here are the only tweaks i'm using In the "Performance" tab of the Fallout 4 Configuration Tool iTexMipMapSkip -1This prevents LOD texture pop-ins while playing, and also seems to heavily accelerate texture streaming after load screens. Same like the other tweaks with up/degrade distance this might increase loading screen times.IF your problem is related to texture streaming, this could be the solution. ENB (with 32GB system RAM) ApplyStabilityPatch=false ForceVideoMemorySize=true VideoMemorySizeMb=24000You can also force a size just below your GPU's VRAM, my card only has 4GB though so i can live with a few loading stutters when ENB swaps between RAM and VRAM (mostly when approaching a settlement on foot, with a settler overhaul installed). Seems perfectly stable like that, if i don't force the memory size i get random CTDs like in Skyrim. Not sure what the stability patch function does, if you have it on then disable it or vice versa. Can't hurt to try.

You're going to have problems no matter what if you try running it from a USB drive. I have noticed that it is far more likely to happen in the middle of combat when there's a large number of NPCs fighting nearby. I just did the Bunker Hill battle again last night and I was about ready to throw my keyboard it got so aggravating. Rooker Posted August 9, 2017 Author Posted August 9, 2017 Okay, this setting did help a little bit: iTexMipMapSkip=-1 Not a huge amount, but noticeable. It also apparently solved a bug I didn't even realize I was experiencing. Several objects throughout the game that I thought had typically terrible Bethesda textures had actually never loaded their proper textures until I turned off this feature. This must be some stupid performance enhancer function they added so as not to explode the Xbox and they never removed it when they ported it to PC. I've also added this to my fallout4.ini and it seems to also help the problem a little bit. Not drastic, but noticeable. bForceUpdateDiffuseOnly=0 iTextureUpgradeDistance1=7500 iTextureUpgradeDistance0=5000 iTextureDegradeDistance1=7500 iTextureDegradeDistance0=5000 I still get the problem, but it doesn't take near as long before the weapon actually appears in my hand. I notice it's accessing my SSD a lot more now, so that might not be a good option if using an old-style hard drive.
guk Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 Yeah my suggestions were just a shot in the dark, the mipmapskip tweak is really essential though for everyone. No idea why anyone would want to play without ReShade/ENB, the vanilla graphics engine is just a blurry mess without it. You mentioned flickering artifacts with ENB, these are usually caused by the vanilla TAA - example the stars in the nightsky just flicker when you move, ENB or not. In the case of the nightsky it also gets visibly worse when you install more detailed texture replacers. The other issue is z-fighting, also caused by vanilla glitches. Probably it just gets a bit more visible with the proper image sharpening of ReShade. I can almost guarantee that you won't notice any of this when you play for a bit longer, my recommendations are Grim Wolf ReShade and ENB Presets by WolfGrimDark - Institute ASD or Lone Wanderer presets. The author is also extremely helpful when it comes to questions and feedback. ----- PS - and i also tried to watch the weapon switching issue more closely, can confirm that even in "massive battles" - like Institute final battle against BoS - there is absolutely no noticeable delay in my game. Since the shadows in the game are rendered over the CPU, you could try to reduce the shadow draw distance (i use 8500 atm) which might give more space for the scripts to work.
