gooser Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 Ok I've been thinking of a new mod idea: - New faction in Skyrim (maybe Tamriel) that is at odds with College of Winterhold, Psjics, and Synod in Cyrodiil and various other factions. It wants to control magic use, magical artifacts, and magical information (e.g. tomes, scrolls) dissemination. - Would involve a new element to gameplay that would make it difficult for magic wielding players (and NPCs as well). - The new faction would be very powerful in fact and have mastered anti-magic devices (restraints) and anti-magic alchemy (anti-magicka poisons). - It may or may not be lore-friendly or compatible. - The mod would include regular patrols in cities, possibly spurring battles with various individuals or factions. - The mod would include random encounters, in outside, or interior environments, triggered possibly by the user performing magic spells or using powerful artifacts (e.g. Wabbajack), and incur penalties/bounties owed to the faction. - "Enforcers" could appear at these times, and force greet the PC and make demands, similar to Thief/Highwayman. Fees could be high, and level with the PC's level. Failure to pay the fees would result in magical transportation to a new prison, specifically for magic wielding PCs. - While in prison, forced Sex acts could be experienced, etc. - Also the Enforcers might force Sex acts when they first encounter the offending parties. Basically make casting magic in Skyrim (or Cyrodiil for that matter) a dicey matter.
Jayleia Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 There are a couple of ways that I see to make it lore-compatible. First is something related to the catastrophe at Winterhold, there's been a backlash brewing for years, but finally, magic is deemed too dangerous for randoms to practice. Second is related to our lovely friends from the Summerset Isle, after banning the worship of Talos, they tighten their grip by limiting the casting/teaching of magic by anyone other than themselves. This gives you an easy out if you are Altmer, or perhaps just even if you have an Altmer follower to vouch for you. This group, of course, would not be welcome in holds allied with the Stormcloaks, so mages would be safe there. For serious penalties, all magic items they capture should be destroyed except for artifacts and quest items which would be secured far away from their prison. Stealth-based magic (Silence, Invisibility) should not trigger Enforcer encounters at all, while summoning Atronachs and Dremora and massive fireballs inside a major city should trigger them automatically. As far as the types of restraints and anti-magic alchemy...might I suggest the bubble-style metal hand mitts? And while they will be escapable, they won't be removed at the end of your time in prison, they expect you to wear them forever. Alchemically, I see a very insidious option, a magicka draining/recovery slowing potion that also has addictive properties. After they release you, you have to return to them regularly, and when you return, they check that you haven't been trying to escape... PERSONAL PREFERENCE: I would add this to Thalmor, the Thalmor have the size and resources, as well as the philosophy to do something like this.
afa Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 Somewhat reminds me of this mod: http://www.loverslab.com/files/file/274-vigilant-of-stendarr/ But that mod is design around punishment against conjuration magic.
damaskos Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 A witch hunt? Would be great if succubus characters could take part as pray, with additional punishments.
Swiftstep Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 Hm, Skyrim might be just the right place for an anti-magic-front. Not that much a strange idea. Maybe if the words spreads around that Ulfric and his rebellion (or the dominion) use shunned magic, it would give radical enemies the fuel they need to become a second dawnguard. Or, different approach, let there be several anti-magic factions. Meridia and her followers fighting necromancy, Stendarr followers fight conjuration, Namira fights restoration... hm... one could work with this as well.
Nazzzgul666 Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 Vigilant of stendarr was also my first thought when i read it. I would appretiate a mod that is somewhat similar, but with less permanent punishments.
Guest Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 So in this case the player the vigilant or are they the victim pursued by this faction?
gooser Posted July 24, 2017 Author Posted July 24, 2017 So in this case the player the vigilant or are they the victim pursued by this faction? My idea was the player is a victim.
tuxagent7 Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 A spellcraft hunt to banish magic....maybe that is why we dont have any magic anymore here in 2017 I really like the mod idea, the new faction and anti-magic restraint Maybe if they caught you the biggest punishment if you cant pay or do radiant quest for them they transform you in grine daedra until you found a cure or something and be chased by the good guys ? lol no can talk just run and escape or kill some gold !
Ekirts Ykcul Posted July 26, 2017 Posted July 26, 2017 Great Idea, i would love to see something like that. That may be a reason to finally play other classes than mages, sorcerers and the like. Or all the more reason to play them Witchhunting in Skyrim. http://peterpulp.deviantart.com/art/BURN-WITCH-BURN-449349003 https://www.cartoonstock.com/cartoonview.asp?catref=kmhn61
Swiftstep Posted July 27, 2017 Posted July 27, 2017 Ever thought of continuing the mod "undeath"? It would be interesting to have someone punish the player for becoming a lich. And, since the vigilant is already involved in this mod, it would be a fitting continuation. That is, of course, if that idea is of interest.
