LrdNikon Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 Very good board. I have the hero 7 maximum. ASUS are good board makers. www.pcpartspicker.com is a good site for system builds.
gregathit Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 Agreed. ASUS is a great mother board. I'm currently running an ASUS Rampage V Extreme/USB 3.1
pinky6225 Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 Not to be negative but i have a GTX 1080 (MSI NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 GAMING X 8GB GDDR5X Graphics Card - Black https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01GELBO1C/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and the things huge, will it fit on that board with the black thing after the PCI slots?
Guest Posted January 28, 2017 Posted January 28, 2017 wait, Me writing in this looks like I know something, and I don't, not really. I have an Asus too, and I like it for some reasons, dislike it for others. The sideways SATA ports. The lack of a floppy-drive port.(It's too late now but years ago, Asus was one of the first to poo-poo floppy drives) They cost too much, they have extra metal I don't really need (do I?) The thing is 5 years old, just about, so I cannot complain. It's been that long and they came out with three more revisions of the exact-same-motherboard!!! Pretty good design, I'd say, if all they had to do was tweak it every few months. But they did a boneheaded thing with the BIOS, it has been too long to remember exactly *what*, but they came through quickly with a replacement BIOS chip and then modified the design so it would not happen anymore. So what am I complaining about?? Nothing!! I just feel like, for the money, someone else should get a chance. What exactly makes my board so freaking special? The voltage regulators. The heatsinks. Beyond that, nothing. If I'd jumped in here and asked "what IS that metal thing in your picture?" I'd prolly get ragged on for being OT, but yeah, it WAS on my mind, and I think, you are right to worry. Not to be negative but i have a GTX 1080 (MSI NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 GAMING X 8GB GDDR5X Graphics Card - Black https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01GELBO1C/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and the things huge, will it fit on that board with the black thing after the PCI slots?

Tbh its taken me a bit of googling and i think i've found the answer on https://www.asus.com/ae-en/Motherboards/ROG-MAXIMUS-IX-HERO/ and it appears to be a control for the internal illumination and can be used to co-ordinate the flashing LEDs found on peripherals by the same maker (imo i'd say pointless gimmick taking board space but perhaps thats important to others)

Yea you don't need a 1000W power supply, you probably only will need 650-700W. No need. Also ASUS makes awesome motherboard.
