Guest Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 I am trying to recreate Leliana's True Sacred Ashes armor from Dragon Age for Skyrim, but I need honest and harsh feedback to really benefit. My skills aren't that great, but I really would appreciate it if anyone and everyone could give me feedback please!
Guest Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Personal, honest, feedback: It looks amazing!
wishnot4 Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 First I'd like to say, it is amazing work. My modeling skills wouldn't even hold a candle to yours. Second, if you are looking to join a modding team, I'm part of a pretty low key group, who could always use a talented modeler. You might have heard of some of our mods, Beasts of Tamriel, Sea of Spirits, the Gorgon Race, The Witches' Festival, The Tsaesci Race just to name a few of the projects we have/are working on.
JRCosta Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Honestly, I would say it looks stunning for someone who just starts modeling a few weeks ago; don't rush and give your personal touches to keep the motivation up
Ark of Truth Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Holy shit that is awesome!! Let me know when it is finished or can be reviewed. I want to review, hell I'll even make a companion for it to go on! With permission of course. Are you new to making stuff like this or is this something you have been doing awhile? EITHER WAY KEEP IT UP!!!

I have done mashups before, but this is my first time ever doing anything from scratch. And if you want, I can let you know when it's finished. The texturing might take a while because I thinkk I'm not going to be very good at it it, but I'll see how that goes

I have to admit I am extremely jealous I have been trying to get into design myself but I not been able to find good starting material to read and learn about it all to make something. Got a full version of 3ds Max Autodesk and not a clue how to use it properly

Ark of Truth Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 Yeah I do admit learning the interface is difficult at first, but it'll get easier. And switching to another program after using one for a while is hard too, but they all get easier to learn with practice. Which one did you start of with? I am assuming you made this one in 3ds Max or Maya?
Ark of Truth Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 I actually did it all in ZBrush, it's much easier to add detail in ZBrush than in 3ds Max. 3ds Max is better for getting a base mesh, but ZBrush is pretty good with that too. And ZBrush, in my opinion, is wonderful for making clean topology. I'll have to go give it a look Thanks!

mercplatypus Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 So far look amazing. Keep up. Thank you! Honestly, I would say it looks stunning for someone who just starts modeling a few weeks ago; don't rush and give your personal touches to keep the motivation up Thank you, I am so terrible at judging my own work. I've done a fair bit of miniature collection including assembly and painting. Believe me when I say you will always be your own harshest critic. Doesn't matter if its 3d modeling, miniatures, or building a house in real life you will always see where things aren't just right or where they don't look as smooth as you think it should. The work is very good, doubly so for a first foray.
Kaz Aanh Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 Looks really good *quality wise* but If I have to be honest. Its boring, there are plenty of clothing similar looking to this. Corset breastplate with leather pouches. Sorry its a "1day armor use for me and forget about its existence", don't feel offended because I didn't meant to.

I suppose as long as it achieves similarity, I am okay with it looking boring
Ark of Truth Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 When you started doing this, did you import the Skyrim body and then build over the top of it?
Guest Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 When you started doing this, did you import the Skyrim body and then build over the top of it? Yes I did, I used the UNP body. But first I had to import it into 3ds Max and convert it to an .obj file. Do you have the .nif importer for 3ds Max?

What are you doing for textures?
SmedleyDButler Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 I admire the determination to do it all legit. I think a lot of people would have just ripped the armour and converted it. You'll learn a lot more this way though!

Yes, the one from the actual game isn't even 3-dimensional, so you wouldn't get the full effect.
SassaAria Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 Thank you, I have no idea for the textures yet lol LOL you got this far! Great sign. Iffin your wanting a bit of help with textures once you get it uv'd, let me know. May have some time to help out. Saw your post in outfit post in mashups - very pretty outfits . Well that plus you're doing a Leliana outfit
SassaAria Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 You mean like zbrushing them ? Have you picked out a good selection of brushes? Brushes are greater than half the battle, or I think so.
Guest Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 You mean like zbrushing them ? Have you picked out a good selection of brushes? Brushes are greater than half the battle, or I think so. I am just using the stand brush, but please let me know if there are any downloadable or better brushes than that?
SassaAria Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 Just looked through some of my pretty old bookmarks for zbrush brushes. Eye roll. So far they're now charging or DL links lead to removed files. Here's an example of one guy who made cloth creases. If you scroll down about half way through the thumbnails, you'll see them. https://www.artstation.com/artist/tomatovfx \ He had also posted them on zbrush. It's probably pretty easy to make your own brushes, and then you can customize as you want. Just grab some references. Though I have to believe with a bit of searching on web you'd find some that are still free. Sorry that I can't be more help with that. Edit Update: Had another moment. Was bugging me that I didn't have anything. So went through old links a bit more. Maybe this helps? Includes the brushes. http://www.selwy.com/2009/zbrush-clothes-tutorial/
