Essential mods and tips for a starter?

So to clarify, I'm not exactly new to modding but I've had a lot of difficulty getting the desired results from SL so far. I've been using Defeat along with many of the recommended mods. I always prioritize the dependancies for every single mod too, yet I've repeatedly had issues installing some of these mods and generally understanding what are the limitations of the core framework of SL or Defeat too. I recently returned to my last attempt and noticed Creature Framework API was not being picked up, yet I couldn't find any real install instructions for it either when checking for a new version. This is what leads me to my question as I'll be starting a fresh install again and working through the same processes to try and achieve what I'm after.

So can anyone give me some suggestions getting my goal? I'm looking to make all animals that aren't mods active, whereas in my previous install things like dogs and horses were inactive despite having more nasty critters installed. I'm also hoping to have some variety in animations rather than being stuck with the arrok ones forever. I'd ideally like to get group sex working too, but I couldn't at all on my last attempt, inclusion of objects would be amazing but I really need to get the base working better before I worry to much about that. What would be your go to lists to achieve that is what I'm asking I guess?

As for tips, some mods such as creature framework have no install instructions. What is the typical install method for such mods? I know it should be something very obvious clearly, but NMM doesn't pick some of these up so such as creature framework and I'm left working though old guides to try and find a mention of it, or as I am currently, trying to remember what I did when I first tried to install it being out of the loop again. Is there a heavily in depth guide I've missed somewhere? Anything at all would be of assistance as I begin what is probably my 5th attempt.

Hmmm, that MNC didn't cover horses and dogs sounds strange. Actually it should cover pretty much everything except dwemer spheres and maybe some seldom things like dragon priests. I'd guess you have a mod that changes dogs and horses, maybe just get rid of it.

An easy way to get more animations is NSAP (non-sexlab animation pack). I'm not entirely sure if all animations there are already covered by SLAL (sexlab animation loader) and it's different packs, maybe you don't need NSAP anymore if you use those. Anyways, there are a lot more (additional) animations for SLAL, the funnybizness pack alone has several hundred.

I used NMM only for a week or so, then i switched to Mod Organizer (MO), so i can't really say what's a proper way to install mods there. If you think about switching, MO is a bit complicated in the beginning, you'd need to make sure that FNIS, SKSE, Loot and -if you use it stuff like bodyslide and TES5edit- are configured properly there. Use (youtube) tutorials to set up things right. After that it works just fine. :)
