You mean the asari trait doesn't get removed from the genetically modified asari? o.o Happened to me once.

No, at least not from manually modified asari. The sub-species that spawn from the environment adaptation event are another story, but there's no way to prevent that. They WILL pick random traits that have nothing to do with the traits you selected, regardless of what you picked. It's a dumb event that shouldn't exist but there's nothign that can be done about it without modifying vanilla files.

Manual genetic modification works perfectly however.

Oh right....

That stupid planet event where everybody turns into droids. ... OK that's what happened a few AlphaMod versions ago. Now it seems it's some sort of stupid random portrait pick. They should at least keep the portraits in the same group. Give me a break, elves to talking mushrooms!?

However, I must have had some kind of wonky luck last time. One set of colonists modified themselves... and turned into ELVES! The horror. laugh.pnglaugh.png Talking mushrooms would have been better. biggrin.png biggrin.png biggrin.png Of course the rest of the Drow demanded a purge. What can I say? I'm an Evil Drow Queen of the people. wink.png

Dammit I liked the Elven and Drow traits being selectable, now they just disappear when modifying the species too.

Can't you just make them selectable again, but really expensive as the AI really doesn't seem to like expensive traits and I have never seen them pick anything worth over four points.

I believe I "fixed" this problem for myself by making Drow cost eight points and using the more trait points "cheat" mod.

Posted

Already in the works in fact. (I talked about it in the Elves thread.) Next version will have the traits selectable again and I'll use the event I made to simply remove them from any non-elves. I'll replace them with some vanilla trait of the same cost.

Turns out the current method doesn't work for your first set of leaders. Some quirk none of us knew about! confused.gif

ok just to pop in... have upgraded to the latest version of this and elves, sidh still dont have a leader in the diplo screen(or use the last race I talked to), still have a fungoid with elven trait, and all my drow pops have 2 instances of dark elven.

Guessing I'd need to start a new game for any of that to get "fixed"??

Posted

Oh my, did you upgrade with an existing save? That probably won't work. laugh.png If I change anything not related to cosmetics (ships, clothing), I find things start getting really weird in existing save games.

Also, the current version has some oddities with traits. I mean, the elven/drow traits show up at game start but leaders won't actually be ageless for a bit. Your heir should be fine, but not your initial leader. Next version will have everything back to normal fortunately. blush.gif

First out of the Gate: Love the mods. Greatly appreciate added "titillation factor" as Roddenberry himself called it.

Unfortunately something I'm seeing a lot of in my error log are names that are too long.  After a quick hunt to see exactly how long the names are allowed to be I ran across this note in a namelist generator in the paradox forums:

Added a bit of code that replaces " ’ " with " ' ". " ’ " kills name lists for some reason.

Given my "official miskatonic namelist" mod is also throwing up the same flags I suspect that may be the issue. Damn (cat)postraphies!

Posted

I admit I'm at a loss over the namelist errors. I don't have any here at all. Vanilla lists use apostrophes also... confused.gif

Hrm. I think the person I quoted was talking about having a " then a ' without a space between.

Probably at the beginning and end of words. Maybe.

So "'meow" or "meow'" is no good, but " 'meow" and "meow' " are. I think. >.<

I'll keep looking to see how long the names are allowed to be, you'd think someone would have put that down somewhere.

Update: I sincerely apologize for wasting your time. I had a mod which was somehow managing to corrupt the namelists of all the other mods to be read incorrectly.  /em kowtow

And for the record the maximum length of a name is apparently 26 letters. I made a namelist with 123456789012345678901234567890 as a name and took numbers off the end until it no longer showed up in the error log.

Posted

Actually that's good to know. I'll make sure any new names don't cross the 26 character mark. (I don't think any do at the moment though.)

UPDATE!!!

  • Drow and other special traits have been reinstated and are selectable again. They've also been reworked a bit for cost and effect. (Again thank Princessity! laugh.png)
  • The startup event now removes any Drow traits from anybody not Drow and replaces them with vanilla traits. Please note this means if you're human and pick Drow traits, you'll magically have different traits when you start the game. Drow traits are for Drow... apparently. laugh.png

For future versions, I'm mulling around some possible changes. (What? If Paradox does it for everything, so can I. laugh.png)

  • Making the two prescripted nations default to -not- spawning.
  • Activating the little switch I have for the fallens. Currently, if running only the Drow mod, there is a 1/5 chance of the Drow fallen showing up.  Within the fallen initializer, I can make a 50% (or whatever %) chance that instead of Drow, they'll be a random humanoid.
  • Putting in a switch for some primitives and a % chance they're humanoid instead of Drow. OR... reducing the chances of Drow primitives spawning.
  • Create a version of Sanctuary (with another name) that houses Drow. (Likely with beefed up defenses naturally.)

And yes, custom ships. laugh.png  I have about 1/3 of the Drow ships shaped now. It seems elves are going to get wrapped up first though. Drow may take a bit longer because I'm really liking how the elf ships are turning out and may revisit my existing work for the Drow. I sort of consider the Drow as my personal favorite mod of the two, so it will probably be finished last. wink.png (The best work is always at the end for me. angel.gif)

just a quick thing... just downloaded the latest versions and started a brand new game, all the various elves and dark elves have mass drivers listed for starting guns. Did you do that intentionally? Also noticed when I customized the elistraen that some things like government picks were doubled

Posted

I don't like it, but yes I did switch everybody over to mass drivers. I found the only way I can kill anything is if I'm using mass drivers so I switched everybody over. (Got tired of having lasers 2 tiers above everybody and still losing to inferior fleets.)

What do you mean about government picks doubled? The ethics stuff? I didn't think I changed that but I'll have another look.

Incidentally, the current version appears to be just fine with 1.4 with the exception of some of the guy outfits. (Seems they did tweak the anims ever so slightly.)

o.O odd Im doing fine atm with lasers and a side of missiles

I mean like spiritualist and militant government picks(just as examples) were done twice, I had to undo em before the race was accepted for play

Posted

I also use Crystallis, Alphamod and some other things which add weapons. That could account for why everything is so hard now. (Only since 1.3!) Though.... I did do a test run using vanilla 1.3.2 and my laser fleets still got fleeced by inferior mass weapons. Missiles seem almost useless if the opposing fleet has point defense or fighters.

But then, I've been just terrible at designing ships ever since 1.3.....  laugh.png

Haven't played a game with the latest update though. Maybe things are getting better now.

Huh, I don't see anything wrong with ethics. So there were too many ethics chosen and it wouldn't let you play without getting rid of some? (There is a chance it's fixed in my version but not the one for download too. But if I edited ethics I didn't make a note of it... confused.gif)

Posted

Oh both? OK I'll run a test with both of them running. Sometimes I forget to do that and that's when issues pop up. laugh.png

Changed Eilistraee back to missiles for next update as well.

Oh look! A 1.4 hotfix is already out XD

I didn't even know it broke so many things!

But they mentioned something about armies. Maybe that will fix the planetary landing issues you mentioned some time ago?

Oh and also after a LONG dev diary drought (I consider their articles about achievements droughtier than drought) they finally released some actual information about 1.5 stuff!

Well I prefer the name authoritarian to collectivism but much prefer individualism to Egalitarian. YUCK! laugh.png  Putting aside nomenclature, they really need to fix materialists!! All the ethics need work really. But the balance, not the names!! laugh.png The whole ethics section is very very..... Sweden. laugh.pnglaugh.png

Faction work sounds good.

Obsessing over achievements is a very very bad sign if that's what they've been doing.....  confused.gifconfused.gifconfused.gif

Posted

Oh no they're not "obsessing"! There was just one diary about achivements but if I remember correctly it was followed by several weeks of no dev diaries as the whole studio went on holidays so I was a bit annoyed that we had several weeks of no valuable information ^^

But looks like it's back to normal now so that's nice

Oh good, had me worried for a second!! laugh.pnglaugh.png

Incindentally, wasn't there a new free DLC or something? I guess I'd better check if it downloaded.

EDIT: Is it Horizon Signal? I don't recognize that one. Seems like it did download! angel.gif

Yeah, playing Stellaris. What's that like? laugh.pnglaugh.pnglaugh.pnglaugh.png

Hope to have some textures done later tonight... with luck....  angel.gif

Oh yeah....

UPDATE

  • Fallen pops weren't properly showing enslaved/Eilistraeen/Lovey Dovey clothes. FIXED.
  • Toned down Drow fallens so they don't take over the galaxy in 20 years if they wake up.
  • Fixed the clipping male clothes... that appeared out of nowhere. (Probably the 1.4 anim changes.)
  • Likely THIS is the last version prior to new ships. Probably. Maybe. laugh.png

About the ships, I'm probably going to wait till the elves are up to speed for NSC before getting back to this. So barring any important bugs or updates breaking things, it will be a little bit. The good news is the ships should go pretty quick once I decide on a texture setup. cool.gif

Question: Anybody mind if I toss the "Vulcan" hairstyles.... or at the very least remove them from the general selection for pops and leaders. (Rulers can still keep them.) The white Vulcan stuff in particular is just crimping my style too often. smile.png

And... I've been rather worried about the Drow not ever getting done so I decided to make a few ships. wink.png  Hopefully textures.... "soonish". laugh.png
