Added armor part CTD for no obvious reasons

Hey guys !

So I've been here all afternoon trying to figure out why an armor part I added to my custom outfit would make me crash to desktop. Nothing found yet.

The armor part is from Newmiller's Vampire Dark Knight armor, it's the pauldrons part. I took the pauldrons and simply edited them to fit in my custom outfit under Outfit Studio. Then I went through Nifskope to edit the BSDismemberSkinInstance > partitions and change from SBP_53_MOD_LEG_RIGHT to SBP_32_BODY (so it can be visible while wearing the custom outfit).

So far, it didn't worked, I tried :

- No edits in Outfit Studio

- Disabling the "auto sanitize before save" in Nifskope

- Switched the pauldrons from the body outfit to the gauntlets

None of them worked :(

Here's the .nif file, that one was scaled to fit the custom outfit but I have trully no idea why the hell it would make my game crash. Something must be missing.

If anyone could point me to the right direction, I'd be really grateful, I'm totally lost here ! :-/

Were there any modifications to this nif like bone nodes? I see a lot of unused bone nodes in the nif that can cause problems as well as add more to the size of the nif.

Loading the nif into the CK brings up a BSLightingShaderProperty.ccp assert error. Other then that it loaded fine into the CK not sure if the assert error is the cause or not.

My guess is how you added the pauldrons to the nif or added the finger and hand nodes into the nif. Because I loaded the nif into outfit studio and none of the hand or finger nodes appear at all in the bone node list which means that something is wrong there and might be the cause of the problem.

I would try loading the nif into nifskope click spells - optimize - remove all bogus nodes save as and try that if that doesn't work try removing all of the nodes then readding them with either mesh rigger or outfit studio.

Hi there, thanks for the advices!

I have no idea about the shader issue, I haven't touched the textures or anything related yet. I guess it came with the mod I took the pauldrons from.

I tried the spells > optimize > remove all bogus nodes, it did remove around 34 unused bones if I remember correctly ! Kinda crazy lol

Sadly it didn't worked :(

What's the readding thing with the nodes ? What should I look for ? I only have nifskope and outfit studio to edit the 3D models. (sorry for the questions, my knowledge of meshes is a bit limited^^ ).

Hi Bloodfang.

You can start to remove (Right Click - Block - Remove Branch) those five NiSkinInstance from the Root Node - the only Root Node you need to keep is the 0 NiNode. This should stop the CTD. The rest of the model looks fine.

Now open this mod plugin in your CK and check in both ArmorAA and Armor references if the selected Body parts are assign to slot 53 only.

Use the load outfit under file in outfit studio and select the nif and load then click on the bone node tab hold down CTRL then select the first bone node then select the last one to mass select them then rightclick one of the bone nodes and select delete bone then hit file and hit export nif to export the new nif with no nodes in it. Then close outfit studio and open outfit studio again select new project then select the body CBBE or UNP and HDT version if you want that instead of normal body with no HDT nodes and hit finish then click on he bone node tab and click first node then hold down shift and click last node to mass select nodes next click on the meshes tab and select all of the outfit nifs and go to shape - copy selected weights then shape - transfer selected weights.

Click on one of the outfit pieces to select only one then switch to the bone node tab and start selecting the bones nodes to see if the piece highlights if it does then you know that it worked and you can go ahead and use the export the nif. Load it into nifskope and use the spells > optimize > remove all bogus nodes again to remove the ones that are not needed and then save as.

Another way to do it if you want the pauldrons in the custom mesh is to look and see if both the custom mesh and pauldrons have the same bone nodes in them if they do you can use nifskope and load the pauldron nif up then right click a outfit piece and go to block - copy branch then load and select your custom mesh then right click scene root in the left list at the top and go to block - paste branch to paste the piece into the nif then save as and repeat till all the pieces are in the nif.

If there is a missing bone node in the custom nif just load it into outfit studio click bone node tab and right click one of the bone nodes and go to add bone and click the one that will lead you to where the bone node is when you find it click it and click ok and repeat till all of the missing bones are added to the nif then export and try pasting the items into the nif again.
