ticky09 Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 I love adding adult themes to my games. The mods here on loverslab combined with nexus and all the different things you can do to skyrim, fallout, all of those is fantastic. However, sometimes you want a game that's already made 100% for sexual themes and adult oriented... activities. I've seen some really good games, such as Monster Girl Island. And while that one seems worth donating to patreon for... Others are not quite so good. There are SO MANY patreon accounts where these "game creators" are delivering content that has MAYBE two pictures in a free game engine (rpgmaker) making over $5,000 a MONTH off of their contributors while delivering, what seems to me at least, as VERY -SUBPAR- content. RPGMaker games in general have left a horribly bad taste in my mouth. Violated heroine is actually solid, but there are many many games having money thrown at them that just aren't delivering. Just the mere mention of patreon accounts immediately puts me off of a game. I don't want to slam specific games or "developers" because I don't want to be -too- rude, but it seems honestly like a scam. The sex scenes are bare bones, containing around 3 pictures generally speaking, the engine is underwhelming to say the least (rpgmaker) and it's honestly as if these guys on patreon are just delivering as little content as possible so they can ride out their free ride to easy money per month. And honestly why would ANYONE pay for a game that barely gives you anything (seriously, some of the rewards are ONLY seeing the feed for like 5-10$ per month) and usually DEMAND $20-40 for any actual access to content releases. There is no game on earth I'd pay 30$ per month on. Sometimes these developers don't even deliver anything substantial on the due date. It's like the adult gaming world has turned into a cash crop similar to steam early access and to be honest I've seen better games from mobile developers. I'd much rather pay you full price for a GOOD adult game, made on an ACTUAL GAMING engine, with SOME level of detail. I would gladly give 60$ or even pay you 15$ per month (typical game subscription fee) if I felt I was actually getting my money's worth. Five nights at freddy's is better than some of the garbage coming from these "developers". The people working on sexlab framework and the LOADS of FREE mods here on loverslab do 200% of the work and these guys are doing it basically for free aside from donations that I'm sure almost never come through to them for their hard work. That's my rant. And if you're wondering, whenever I referred to these adult game creators with quotations, it's because they're hardly worthy of being called such. Now if someone can deliver a game that doesn't farm my wallet to live the high life for delivering me a pile of shit on a platter every month, I'd love to give money to you for an ACTUAL game.

Ein019 Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 Long story short, we've made our bed and now we're sleeping in it. All throughout the 2000s, American and European Media did a bang up job of attacting a repulsive stigma to hentai and porn games for the Eastern Marketplace. Now that people have become far more acceptive to the market... There's barely anybody who' sany good that is willing to touch the market with a ten foot pole, except for scam artists. Look at companies like TeaTime, Illusion, C-Ket* ( Name spelled wrong intentionally, as the stuff they produce is a tad bit too extreme for here.) They've been long runners in the porn genre , but thanks to shoddy reporters and the Rapelay incident, they actually had to ban American and European users from their websites. On the sad side, all the best companies either messed up their formula ( 3D Custom Girl , for example abandoned their excellent idea for two crappy ideas), on the bright side, there are companies that just don't give a damn anymore, the Untelerbach people., the MoeGirl Touch people who were perfectly purged from Google Play. (LOL THEY WERE UP FOR 3 MONTHS) Now as for scams, there's far too many to list. My least favorite scams are the porn games that require "Always Online" connections. RPGmaker shit is one thing but always having an open connection to your computer AND knowing that you're using a porn game? Jesus. Might as well ask for your facebook credentials while they're at it. Then we've got visual novels. . . Whoo lord these visual novels. The best ones on the market are either Guro or Loli. Everything else is just garbage thrown together with either Tyrannomaker , Ren'Py or heaven help us Novelty. It's not that the programs are bad, it's the people who are making the games. Then the fun things like the Nutataku games, pay to win, always online and crappy animations. At least they good designs at the end of the day.
ticky09 Posted May 12, 2016 Author Posted May 12, 2016 You nailed it, Ein. I realize it seems like I was upset because of graphics, but that is NOT it. I would LOVE for an innovative and fun adult gaming experience in RPGMaker, but 90% of the patreon accounts begging for money for their games to be released incrementally are all scam artists. There are a few that provide good updates and actually finish games, but from what I've seen over the last year and a half that I've been watching them, they're all still working on the exact same project they were 18 months ago. They're lazy and they want a free ride to an easy life. I've commissioned hentai artwork before. It doesn't take abhorrently long and it isn't fantastically expensive unless you're being ripped off. It's just very sad to see. I pretty much have to just make do with game mods and the primary issue with that is I don't always feel like playing what the original game is centered around. Skyrim, for example. I've played that game to hell and back and while the mods are fun and new, the game itself they run on has well run its course for me.
Gagoloth Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 I came to the same conclusion when a certain game about DC comics was shafted mid development. You played as lex luthor and you started a strip club and hypnotised heroines into working there. The developers of this game was on patreon and at the time was making over 6 or 7 thousand dollars a month or more. They received a copyright complaint from dc about the NAME of the game they were making. So.... what did they do? did they rename the game? kinda. Did they keep working on the project? At first. In the end the project was all abandoned and they opted to make a new game entirely. There patreon went from over 5 to 7 thousand dollars a month to under a thousand overnight. They really lost the faith of their subscribers and they have been struggling to get back to where they were. I have a problem with patreon. I understand why content creators and sites use patreon and i'm fine with that. There are however certain things i don't agree with. The fact that you can subscribe to a "developer" to make a game and that developer doesn't come through or decides he doesn't want to continue their work and just outright abandoned the project that everyone was interested in seeing made. People like this make patreon feel like a fucking scam. I keep track of /stg/ on 4chan. I don't comment at all due to the fact that the forum is spammed by the most idiot fucktards on the planet. They are a couple of devs i keep track of because they are actually putting out content.
Guest mayaktheunholy Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 .....and threads like this are part of the reason some of us just stop making games.....
ticky09 Posted May 12, 2016 Author Posted May 12, 2016 Maya your comment makes no sense, but okay. We're discussing facts about what people are doing with patreon. There ARE good indie developers out there, but they're few and far between. If you treat people like cash cows and just release your game ever so slowly to keep raking in money, then you're part of the problem. HOWEVER. If you are one of the developers that actually releases a game and doesn't take almost two years to release a single rpgmaker title (unacceptable and inexcusable. RPGMaker games in depth with art can be made 10x faster than that) , then you're not included in this rant. This rant is about the majority of developers who eat up our money and do things like buy a car or a house (which HAS happened) or take the money and abandon your original project. People bitch about AAA game companies treating people like cash crops for content, but at least they deliver the content and don't make us shovel out 30$ a month each for it. Which is another good point, the prices for the patreon games are extremely overreaching. Your single game is not worth one person paying over 200$ for, which is what they pay in less than a year of waiting for a game. I can subscribe to a AAA title and get VASTLY superior gameplay and content for $120 in a year. Hell, black desert online is buy once and play and I got hundreds of hours racked up on that for $50.
ReMeDy Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 You know what really pisses me off?... The Lovers Lab Patreon only makes $1,910/month. https://www.patreon.com/loverslab?ty=h I've seen that number easily eclipsed by a number of RPG Maker games that have offered very little content other than a demo and vague promises. We know Ashal is capable, and yet it's the guys who put out RPG Maker story demos making more than Ashal is. I'm also convinced these Patreon developers intentionally procrastinate on finishing their games (if they ever do), because they know once they're done, the money stops with it. If you're getting paid to do something from home, why would you compromise that!? lol.
Liuli Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 Think about it this way: It's extremely hard to make an adult indie game from scratch since usually the teams who do it are very small if not a single person and there's a lot of social stigma to deal with/hide from when you spend months working on a project that's basically porn. Which is the reason most of this games start as a dream and end up as a failure, never coming out. This isn't a new situation, failed RPG games from years past litter adult forums. The difference is that now there's Patreon. Which is a good thing. It means there's more chance for adult games to actually materialize. As for the 5000$ per month - first that number is obviously incorrect, that's not how much anyone makes, maybe a very few rare individuals. People make money off of Patreon because there's a big demand for adult games yet there's almost no supply of them (in English at least). And why do you care if someone makes money from patreon over a failed game? What's at stake for you besides jealousy? Do you realize how many con artists exist in the world that squeeze even more money out of people and actually cause harm to peoples' lives? Would be witches, televangelists, astrologists, graphologists, fuck - 90% of the new age industry is a giant placebo from homeopaths to chiropractors. I don't care about a handful of people making a buck out of a market void that's yet to be filled when there's millions of professional con men off the internet. ticky09 Posted May 13, 2016 Author Posted May 13, 2016 Okay, first off, the number is NOT incorrect. It's a real number. Go check out the adult patreon games. A lot of them make between 3-7k a month. Do research before jumping in gung-ho calling people wrong. Second, yes, failed games have always littered forums but they were free, thus it's understandable that they failed. FINALLY, and my BIGGEST problem with what you said, Li, is that it's MY MONEY that's at stake. I donated to yummytiger and a few other people that DO procrastinate. And there WAS an author that I was about to contribute to, but guess what? He bought himself a new house across the country and moved his family there, then bought a new car all while his game was on hiatus. Another game was Cathouse Tails. There was a huge stink over it because the then at the time leader of the project was telling his artists and coders to literally ride the wave of money coming in providing small little updates to keep it rolling and he had no intention of completing it. I don't know if he left or was removed but I see that the game has resumed production and has gone in an entirely new direction, so I'm not sure about it's current state. But you obviously don't pay for any bills, or car payments, or rent yourself, or maybe you have some form of assistance or someone personally helping you, or else you'd see where the problem is at when people take money from you and promise something grand but really they just fill your head with pretty speeches about the future and ultimately are only there to see how long they can ride out their temporary fame ON MY EXPENSE TAB. It isn't jealousy because I have zero desire to program games. Programming is not my niche and I find it dull and it gives me a headache just looking at code. The most "programming" I ever did was making my own bot profiles for different games, and that was bare minimum. It's my personal opinion on it and while I praise people who are able to code games and mods, I have no desire to cash in on that market. Just checked patreon since I opted to pledge to loverslab last week. There are games literally making 14k, 17k and 30k a month. --EDIT Again, I believe content creatours SHOULD be paid for their work. I do NOT believe all adult games and everything should be free. You spent time and work on it and I would LOVE to pay you a normal game price for an adult game. It's the quality of content I'm receiving for my payment and delivering in a timely manner; NOT spending 18 months working on a SINGLE project if you're raking in more than $5,000 per month for it. As I said earlier, I do not mind paying $20-60 on a game, or if it's an online or consistently updated and improved game, then I wouldn't mind buying "dlc" for updates and improvement. Updates, additional content, the game itself, it's all time and work and that you DESERVE to be compensated for as a developer. What I am furious about is literally dragging the project on for a year or more for one single release of one single game with ~30 scenes, 3 pictures per scene, and about 2 hours gameplay time and zero replay value, zero story shifts, nothing worth playing again even though you're receiving more money than undertale did and LOOK at that game. Shit dude if you could offer me a single game with 2 hours game play time but with some replay value, animated scenes or something else real time like leveling, skill upgrades, gear upgrades, clothing and gear damage, pregnancy with birth (like violated heroine), ANYTHING that adds quality content of that kind, then I'd pay you a good chunk of money for that. But the games released now are developed on a cheap shoddy engine with commissioned art that I could commission myself from an artist for 1/4 the price of paying for your game for 1.5 years, and are worthless once you play through them a single time.
souldead341 Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 I donated to yummytiger and a few other people that DO procrastinate. Personally, yummytiger is one of the very few hgame makers that does patreon right. His account is set up to only take payments per update, and he's said exactly how many updates there will be for his current game. Other groups, like the roundscape team, are assholes. They had an initial crowdsource funding drive (I don't remember which one). During this drive they said it would be a free game, with backer exclusive content like extra player origins. Then they went on patreon, and since then have started replacing a lot of the earlier art they commissioned, wasting money. They've also done the delays, and if I remember correctly, have basically decided to restrict the final game entirely to backers.
Xpyke Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 I do think that the problem is not patreon, but in the people that procrastinate on purpose to rake more money, I think that patreon can help a lot of people to get their ideas funded, but when someone pledge he is funding an idea, nothing more. Think of kickstarter, it can deliver, but it can not deliver too, for the rest of us all there is left is to be skeptical. But in the topic, I would love to make adult games, I can program but cannot draw even if my life was on the line, so I'm using 3Dcg as others, but the catch is, I have a day and a night job, if I would create games as a professional I would need to quit my night job, reducing my income a lot, so as we are all critics here, what do you guys think of these: The game is being made using unity in combination with daz for the sprites, and the hero above is just a place holder for collision checking. The story will revolve primarily in blackmail, as an innocent girl will be slowly corrupted, but of course with a player driven path, choices do matter, it's not a visual novel. Question is, do these information catch any interest or is it just another one in the never ending list?

ticky09 Posted May 14, 2016 Author Posted May 14, 2016 HOLY SHIT. A fucking badass hentai game. Made in RPGMaker even. The Last Sovreign. That's something recent AND made on RPGMaker. Realistic, well, maybe not, but believable within its own realm. VERY well written. Compelling story. Full of hentai but honestly I found myself NOT wanting to experience it because of how good the character was portrayed. I felt guilty because I personally was tempted to make the decision for the character to fall under the succubus's charm. And the hilarious part is you play a chosen hero who literally defeats enemies, fucks them, moves on, but upon entering the castle of the incubus king, he defeats a lower succubus and so he does his thing and fucks her, but there's this intense text described, picture supported event where --- i don't want to spoil it. It's the very beginning, but. It's seriously a good game. If you want insight on how to make an enticing story, look at that game. I literally avoided hentai on purpose even though if you succumb to sexual desire the story continues in a separate path. Like it isn't just Oooooo hentai. Here we go, I'll sum it up in very few words. Make it a game. A game like.... A game like undertale or a game like WoW or a game like amnesia that follows a general shtick but has it's own way of doing it. Except replace hideous, repulsive, flesh amalgamation beast men with goo girls. Get a story going and slap lots of sex, boobs and fetishes into it. Make sex a fun part of a normal game, I guess. Or, for my character maybe not so fun --EDIT There, I offered something constructive. Before I was just bitching just to bitch, but now I'm trying to offer something to future game developers or people looking for inspiration. Draw people, draw me to your game. I don't care if there are only 3 pictures depicting the start, middle and finish of the hentai scene if you can -build- it for me. I don't need a hard to design animation system if you can make me feel it instead of just look at it. You don't have to immediately dive into sex scenes. Build up the story, build up the feel, build up the characters. As long as after the buildup there's pleeeenty of sex (good or bad, pleasure or pain) to make up for it (let's be real here. I can tell you story is super important but if that's ALL I wanted why in gods name would I be on loverslab. No, I'd be on reddit or some shit trying to be inspirational. I need good, hearty faps and lots of them cause I'm human and I wanna help people make me some) then it's fine.
Liuli Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 text wall I don't need to do any research, I looked at a lot of patreon pages as they pop up on ULMF and most of them are lucky to reach a 300$ mark. Your first example is Yummytiger who specifically gets paid per game update rather than monthly? All the talk about people buying cars and houses sounds rather far fetched. How would you even know who buys what? It sounds like you have a chip on your shoulder, friend. If you feel you got burned then save your money for gaming studios that prove themselves. The current status of delayed games won't change until there's competition in the field.

Your first example is Yummytiger who specifically gets paid per game update rather than monthly? So, since I've seen this thing where h-games get a shit ton per month (say 3k+) myself, here are some examples. Note, I'm not commenting on the quality or lack there of in the games or whether the dev is "lazy", just the amount per month. https://www.patreon.com/simbro?ty=c https://www.patreon.com/hreinngames?ty=c https://www.patreon.com/Reepyr?ty=c https://www.patreon.com/GabeWork?ty=h https://www.patreon.com/heavenstudios?ty=h https://www.patreon.com/viperv?ty=h https://www.patreon.com/user?u=108351&ty=h https://www.patreon.com/akabur?ty=h https://www.patreon.com/eromancer?ty=h https://www.patreon.com/user?u=132843&ty=h https://www.patreon.com/user?u=121401&ty=h https://www.patreon.com/Keey?ty=h Yes, there are a lot that are far less than the 3k per month, and very few that are per update (I only know of 2), but the point still stands that there are a number of major devs that make a huge amount per month, for relatively little content. This then pushes more devs to go towards the same model, and slow the releases of new content to get more money. That's what it looks like from the outside, at least.

For now it will be just a choice driven story, no battles, just shaping everything with your choices, I don't want to bite more than I can chew That's understandable. I modified a translated version of VH mostly because I wanted to see some things fleshed out in the hot springs town that either could have been and weren't (like the couple that fucks in a room upstairs every now and then if you enter their house at random times) or things that were left unfinished (like the interaction with the "vulgar aristocrat" in the bar after he offers your character a drink), so I know what it's like to program even the shortest scenario in RPGMaker.. it can get pretty tedious, even when part of what your doing is copying and pasting scripts and modifying them to fit the scenario you're trying to create. I can't imagine what it's like having to create custom sprites/animations and character pictures that pop up on screen on top of everything else (which I did dip into a bit, for what I was doing); for example just the amount of work that was put into VH to get it to where it is, is impressive. Honestly I kind of like the idea of the game you're creating a little more though. The whole combat aspect of VH is fun, but I often finding it taking a back seat to the other aspects of the game, so it feels kind of pointless in a way.

I usually hate to grind on games, VH is an exception, I do like its battle as it's an action based rpg, so it's not just spamming the skill button and waiting for the animation to finish. But it is a lot of work indeed, I coded yesterday from dawn to dusk and just got the basic map, sprites and collisions working, but as doing so I messed up with something and the character stopped walking... So I have some art done, the basic level and controls that are not working right now, but it's a start I guess. ^^

Script based character movement is pretty tedious too, I know I've had to take note of how much space could be traveled over time and adjust the amount of movement commands accordingly. When I was modifying VH the hardest part for me was trying to figure out what triggered what, it was made more difficult by the fact that a number of the game triggers are in Japanese characters, and I don't know how to read or translate Japanese, so that meant a lot of trial and error. I'm still not entirely sure on how the pregnancy system in that game works. I wish I knew of a program I could use to transfer all of the edits I've made to the game to new releases but now such tool exists that I'm aware of. Anyway, I wish you luck with your endeavor and will be on the look out for a finished product, as the game concept sounds interesting, and quite frankly I find sprite sex games to be more to my liking than most other types.
Hanson Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 Look at companies like TeaTime, Illusion, C-Ket* ( Name spelled wrong intentionally, as the stuff they produce is a tad bit too extreme for here.) There is stuff which is too extreme for here? Now I am really curious what that could be, there isnt so much left...

Hanson Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 Considering we talk openly about for example violated heroine here, i wouldnt say loli is too extreme for here..... well guess i am trying to find that ominous company now in the net... despite having a feeling, that it wont help me much because i guess its all untranslated work... but you only know by searching...

The 3rd rule of LoversLab is: "We may be an adult oriented community, but don't be stupid, don't post anything blatantly illegal. Meaning no discussion or assistance with illegal content such as piracy, game cracks, models or textures taken from the assets of other games, or any depictions of underage persons with exposed nudity or in a sexual context." That's the reason, we can discuss of these topics, but not post, link or provide anything in these topics, but I guess saying go search for Violated Heroine is not a problem. And to post an update about the game i'm making, I made a blog here http://www.loverslab.com/blog/501/entry-2904-dev-blog-01/ , if anyone is interested.
