The ram I have came with the computer I bought from someone else. The only thing I upgraded so far is the gpu.
Anatriax Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 How is the RAM configured on the board? is it two sticks of 4 and a stick of two? If so, remove the stick of two, and try again.
MeesterYellow Posted February 21, 2016 Author Posted February 21, 2016 How is the RAM configured on the board? is it two sticks of 4 and a stick of two? If so, remove the stick of two, and try again. Where can I go to see how the RAM is configured? And, what are sticks? Sorry, I don't know much about the RAM. My knowledge on RAM is basic.
Tepi Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 Try using a older ENB if you have the newest one. I got huge stutters with the 0.303. Download 0.262 or 0.292 as they seem to still be available.

Anatriax Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 In enblocal.ini set the following as false: [ANTIALIASING] EnableEdgeAA=true EnableTemporalAA=false EnableSubPixelAA=true EnableTransparencyAA=false

Anatriax Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 Those options are using a large chunk of resources, and disabling them should greatly improve performance Also, see phases one and two of my guide. Make sure you have all of the patches and plugins to help improve performance (all of both phases)

Anatriax Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 Mmhmm. While the guide IS in the process of being overhauled (nothing posted yet) the first two phases won't be changing much, and they're actually somewhat critical to playing a stable game, regardless of the number of mods you use.

Make sure you have all of the patches and plugins to help improve performance (all of both phases) Thank you. There are a lot less stuttering but some are still present. Also, is it me or a there are less grass now?

According to Boris's DX9 tool I only have 4064GB of VRAM available. LESS than what my GPU has. Not to mention my 8gb of RAM. Something tells me his tool is inaccurate, and the STEP method of calculating (VideoMemorySizeMb=XXXX) is more accurate. Using the number given by the tool created by Boris, my frame-rates drop and stuttering increases. Using the STEP method of calculation, I preform almost seamlessly. ReservedMemorySizeMb=XXX Should be set AS HIGH AS NEEDED TO REMOVE STUTTERING. (in sections of 64 / 128 / 256 / 512 / 768 / 1024 DO NOT GO OVER 1024) http://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:ENBlocal_INI/Memory Screenshot of both methods: Everything else you've stated, I agree with 100%, but these two lines are inaccurate.

Thanks. 10GB of ram is an unusual amount to have as most systems usually come with ram in sets of 4GB, I.E: 4, 8, 12, 16Just gives me the idea that the ram is not all matching ram and this could be causing you issues. SkyrimPrefs.ini in Documents: [Display] { iShadowMapResolutionSecondary=1024 iShadowMapResolutionPrimary=2048 } ; These 2 settings are useless and do nothing in game. { iMaxAnisotropy=1 } ; This should be set to 0 when using an enb. { iMultiSample=1 } ; This should be set to 0 when using an enb. { ipresentinterval=1 } ; This setting should not be present in skyrimprefs.ini, it is placed here incorrectly by Bethesda [MAIN] { bSaveOnPause=1 bSaveOnTravel=1 bSaveOnWait=1 bSaveOnRest=1 } ; These should be disabled for safety reasons, the vanilla saving system in skyrim is incredibly buggy and is known to corrupt many a save game. [saveGame] { fAutosaveEveryXMins=15.0000 } ; Setting this to 0.0000 disables vanilla autosave and saves your sanity as mentioned above skyrim's save system is buggy as anything. Skyrim.ini in Documents: [Display] { iShadowMapResolutionPrimary=2048 } ; There is no need or use for this setting in Skyrim.ini file [Papyrus] { fPostLoadUpdateTimeMS=500.0 } ; Can be put up to 2000 if desired, will make loading screens longer but allows for more objects/scripts to be rendered/loaded during load screen. Enblocal: [MEMORY] { ReservedMemorySizeMb=768 } ; This setting is absurdly high for such a new enb binary, it is designed in such a way that it is able to be set at 64/128/256 { VideoMemorySizeMb=3926 } ; This should be the number provided by running Boris' DX9 tool and subtracting 170 for Windows 7 and 350 for Windows 8/10 Thought I would throw my input in as there can never be enough information Lol. (in sections of 64 / 128 / 256 / 512 / 768 / 1024 DO NOT GO OVER 1024) http://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:ENBlocal_INI/Memory Screenshot of both methods: Untitled.jpg Everything else you've stated, I agree with 100%, but these two lines are inaccurate. With your DX9 tool results, I get the impression your running Windows 8 or higher, if that's the case then that value you got is entirely accurate, MS updated Windows 8 and higher and in the process created a bug that blocked any DX9 app/game from accessing and/or using more than 4064(4GB) memory. Step is a valuable resource indeed, I use them myself but I also know that whatever value you use in "ReservedMemorySizeMB" is the same value that is mirrored on your physical ram, so if your lacking in the ram department this can be a problem. if your running 8GB+ of ram then your way is perfectly reasonable, apologies I should have clarified this better. Also I noted that the op did not post an SKSE.ini, which is his/her memory patch and where some of the performance would come from.
D_ManXX2 Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 ExpandSystemMemoryX64=true With the amount of memory you have this should be false regardless of which OS you're using. http://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:ENBlocal_INI/Memory Are you a troll or something? ie: as long as your skse.ini is set properly, this doesn't really matter. Maybe that is accurate for newer enb boost, but previous version was advisable to switch off that option from enb boost since it wasn't working right with skse memory management.
buglover Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 "With your DX9 tool results, I get the impression your running Windows 8 or higher, if that's the case then that value you got is entirely accurate, MS updated Windows 8 and higher and in the process created a bug that blocked any DX9 app/game from accessing and/or using more than 4064(4GB) memory." Boris confirmed this. If you were using Windows 7, you would have received totally different results from the DX9 tool. Basically, you're hosed if you play Skyrim on any OS newer than Windows 7--You will not be using more than 4GB of VRAM no matter what you do. The ONLY fix for this is going back to Windows 7.
27X Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 ExpandSystemMemoryX64=true With the amount of memory you have this should be false regardless of which OS you're using. http://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:ENBlocal_INI/Memory Are you a troll or something? ie: as long as your skse.ini is set properly, this doesn't really matter. The only troll here is you, considering your guide pretty much consists of "it works for me, so it will automatically work for you 100%, regardless of hardware, OS, memory size and speed or amount of system intercommunication bandwidth", which is pretty much the opposite method someone should be using in establishing a baseline for mod and utility usability. If i recall you're the one telling people to force their CPU to 5ms calculation resolves to cover laggy papyrus instances which is pretty much the epitome of "artificially age your hardware at the maximum rate, along with creating general instability". Incidentally that setting causes a CTD if I have it enabled, and generally for people with last or current gen I7s, this is the general circumstance of enabling it, and it's doubly ironic you quoting the STEP wiki without bothering to read the attendant thread that foes with it, because two of STEPs maintainers provide a multipost, multiparagraph explanation as to why this setting should be generally be disabled unless you're running an AMD system with Win7/9 and an integrated APU If ExpandSystemMemoryX64 is set to true, after the "Block 1" allocation is set above a certain number, Skyrim will crash just before the main menu. For me, this happens when "Block 1" is over 512MB, though I've read user reports of it happening closer to or just past 768MB. Before hishtup told me about his findings, the only way that I knew of to allow Skyrim to run after the "Block 1" allocation causes it to crash is to increase the "Block 2" allocation to 512MB. However, using Sheson's Memory Blocks Log and other tools, I and other people have observed Skyrim still never actually uses over 256MB for "Block 2". So that additional 256MB allocated to Block 2 is essentially wasted. Then, after I posted an explanation of how the Memory Blocks Log tool works with a bit of history regarding Sheson's Memory Patch Fix, hishtup told me that if ExpandSystemMemoryX64 is set to false then Skyrim won't crash based on the "Block 1" allocation. From this, I realized that increasing the "Block 2" allocation should not be necessary. So, I did some tests and can confirm that this is correct. With ExpandSystemMemoryX64, set to false, I can set my Block 1 allocation even over 1GB, and Skyrim doesn't crash when started, and I do not need to increase the "Block 2" allocation. In retrospect, this make complete sense, because based on the source code of the ExpandSystemMemoryX64 feature that Boris posted on the ENB forums, it uses a system memory allocation function call (MEM_TOP_DOWN) to change the allocation of memory from the "bottom" of the memory space of a program to the "top" of its memory space. The MEM_TOP_DOWN call is intended to be used for testing when converting a 32-bit application to 64-bit. I did quite a bit of research about MEM_TOP_DOWN, and although my findings were inconclusive, I never found any evidence to fully support the idea that it would allow memory to be used more efficiently. For an enlightening and interesting article on MEM_TOP_DOWN, you can check out this blog post by Bruce Dawnson, a programmer at Google (who used to work for Valve). Scroll down to the bottom of the page, and you will see my questions to him that I asked back in March last year. So I highly recommend changing the ENB Guide to suggest setting ExpandSystemMemoryX64=false in enblocal.ini as the default, and adding an explanation about its effects on the Sheson Memory Patch fix. For the explanation, my suggested edits: Quote T When set to true, this parameter changes some of Skyrim's memory allocation code to put write some cached data at the beginning top of Skyrim's memory space, instead of the default write to the bottom of the memory space method used for almost all Windows programs. The According to the author of ENB, this can greatly reduce memory fragmentation and make better use of the Skyrim's available memory, especially when running on 64-bit Windows. It is highly recommended to enable this parameter for all 64-bit systems; however, it can generally be left enabled even for 32-bit systems as some users have reported it working well for them on these systems. If using a 32-bit system and having issues such as CTDs, disable it. However, it has been found that this feature conflicts with the Sheson Memory Patch fix by causing Skyrim to crash if the memory patch fix is used to increase Skyrim's initial heap ("Block 1") allocation higher than 512MB. Therefore, if using the Sheson Memory Patch fix, then it is recommended to set ExpandSystemMemoryX64 to false. Note: For this parameter to work, ReduceSystemMemoryUsage must be set to true and EnableUnsafeMemoryHacks must be set to false below. Same circumstances apply to SKSE's implementation of expanded Blocks.

You talk like you've read my guide, but apparently you haven't, because you've excluded the phases where I actually help people find out what settings they are supposed to use with their hardware / software. I have put EXTENSIVE research and testing into all THREE of my guides. Testing to the point of installing them on multiple machines, and playing saves to around the lvl 100 area before I even CONSIDER updating my guides. You like to act like you know how to read... but I don't think you comprehend. While the quotes you made support your point, they also support mine because they are the same posts I used in the first place, and are from the same people I've CONVERSED WITH about testing my guide.(NOTE: LL is not the only modding community that I am a member of, and the only one where I am known exclusively as Anatriax). So really, sir. You need to quit. Please. You have no clue of the efforts that have gone into testing the credibility of my guides, and I DO NOT appreciate you slinging accusations around of me simply "tossing it together as an it works for me so it should for you".
Rebel Marauder Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 I don't really think this is the place to pick at one another, I haven't read Anatriax's guide because I myself am well versed in the ways of running a custom and heavy skyrim setup even with Windows 10, but I will NOT go as far as to try and discredit anyone's work even on a guide, as writing a guide is a complex job, and is as important as making the mods themselves, I don't wish to see the same level of debasement going on here between users as I have seen on the Nexus, @Anatriax: I remember you saying that your in the process of updating your guides, if you need any additional information on anything or just a different point of view then feel free to contact me.

For those, I have standards and expectations of immersion they must meet, so I usually have to spend several hours testing a mod to make sure it's stable with the rest of the setup. However; if you have a suggestion for a mod that MIGHT meet what my guide is aimed at? By all means shoot me a PM with the idea.
