morgananinuala Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 So, I've been putting this off for a bit, but I've decided to bite the bullet and start work on a small overhaul mod that should improve interior FPS by a huuugggeeee margin. Basically, four things fuck ur FPS: scripts, fancy meshs, high-resolution textures, and lights. Seriously, lights drain fps. Not just the shadows, the lights themselves. So I'm going through every interior cell in Skyrim, deleting all the lights, and making sure that the ambient lighting is bright enough. It saves my computer, but wow is it a lot of grunt work. It's the next best thing to a working TLB command (don't you just miss that?)
morgananinuala Posted February 6, 2016 Author Posted February 6, 2016 Well. SInce you asked nicely, I'm working on it. It's simple, but fucking boring. I'm through the A's, midway through the B's. Two or three letter's worth of cells a day, I think.
Mookeylama Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/70454/? probably dumb question, but would deleting the lights make it sorta like that mod does?
Setekh Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 Sounds like this will be mainly for those with weak systems, there will be a loss of scene quality.
spoonsinger Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 What about Occlusion Culling? ...what about it? Basically, OC prevents rendering of anything that is not in direct view of the player. This puts less of a drain on the processing because the cell is not completely preloaded. This is implemented for outdoors, but not indoors. After doing some searching, someone already did implement OC for indoors. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/32505/? Actually and the lights arn't really a problem for me, (sorry), but what about an OC type thing for HDT? That's to say who hasn't seen stretchy npc breasts string their way across the landscape even though you can't actually see the npc anyway? Seems like a bit of a waste of processing.
morgananinuala Posted February 7, 2016 Author Posted February 7, 2016 None of which has ANYTHING to do with this mod. Im not doing OC or HDT things, jfc. If you need something that this mod is not doing, look elsewhere. Im getting fid of lights, bub. Dats it.

I'm not certain, but I don't think OC works with physics directly. Indeed it doesn't, that's why I said 'type thing'. Anyway I think we have hijacked someones post with transcendent fippery which I think is probably a bit of a faux pa. Many apogees to original poster and their good works.

Very well, I'll go ahead and remove my previous posts. All the luck to the OP on his mod.
morgananinuala Posted February 7, 2016 Author Posted February 7, 2016 Wrong. I've done this in many cells already, and the gain is enormous.

Dats it. i'm looking forward to trying your mod. can always use a boost even inside, tho i usually need more of one outdoors. but i'm thinking it might even give a more realistic ambiance feel, similar to how this mod will turn lights off... http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/70454/?
