Well...I WAS going to try my hand at NPC editing...

OK, so I have Sexlab Defeat, and I turned Alva into my personal slave.  She's capped at level 15, because that's what she is written as.  Well...I figured I'd go and try that much vaunted NPC Editor that people talk about.

well...I can't use it.  It crashes every time I try to open it.  I can't run it.  *cry*

I wanted to give her a little bit of a makeover, and see if I could increase her level cap a bit, but alas...I cannot.

Is there another option, or can anyone help me out or anything?

Wanted to improve her looks a bit and give her maybe some fangs, and some proper eyes, maybe some HDT hair from KS HDT hair pack or something.  hehe

Don't even need the ck for non-visual edits.

TES5 edit is really simple to use for things like altering max levels, adding perks changing/adding factions.

IT has no GUI for altering faces though sadly. :(

Level cap shouldn't be a problem.  I can muddle thru that.    I think I managed that once before, I would just have to create my own .esp using the CK.  used to do that in New Vegas, right?  Haven't done that with Skyrim yet.  Haven't even messed with TES5Edit much.

Never got into modding/editing Skyrim that much.  New Vegas was pushing my skill (and tool availability) limits.  I don't have access to a lot of the better programs, and I am no coder.  heh.

For the record...I fixed the level cap issue.   Clicking on her in the console and then using the console command setlevel command.  I never really looked too deeply at it, but I learned that it has 4 switches.  So I set her to level up with me.  I just can't find a way to change her hair.  I can't find a program that won't crash.  I tried using Alternate Actors, but it bugged the crap out of my game to the point I couldn't play.

I wonder if it's just because this interim machine I am on is running Win10 with 8 Gigs of RAM.  I really need more, but lack of funds makes it hard to procure more.

There's no real mod that will let one easily change the hairs on a NPC and have it stick. Skyrim has too many ways of checking the NPCs and making them go back to default, which usually ends up with ugly dark faces. The best way to change a (or many) NPCs' hairstyles is to make your own mod. It's not terribly difficult but it means learning the basics of the CK.

Here's a tutorial video from the guy who made the Apachii Hairstyles for NPCs mod (which I do not recommend using, it has issues). Despite that, he does lay out the basic way to change hairstyles through the CK, only, instead of choosing his mod (you won't have it in your mod list) as your Active File you'd leave it blank then choose your own name for the mod you're making.

In all honesty, though, you really should learn how the CK works in general if you want to make mods for your game, even basic ones. I suggest watching some of Darkfox127's tutorial vids to learn about it, especially his early ones that he made a couple of years ago. He goes over basically everything you'll need to get started. It's easier than you'd think. The only difficulty is how buggy the CK can be but it's not a big deal.

That's what I was trying to do, but the programs I was trying to use, keep crashing on me.  So I gave up.  Turned to here for help, but haven't had any luck.

I'm not sure what to tell you. As I said, there's no real mod that'll allow you to alter NPCs and not bug out. At the most you'll just get the dark face from Skyrim failing to load your changes and loading the defaults instead. If the CK isn't working then you can TRY to create changes using TESVEdit but it's more difficult because there's no way to preview your changes except in game. TESVEdit's a beautiful program and every modder should learn to use it but the CK is the best way to make mods from scratch.

Google gives a ton of hits for CK crash fixes. Have you tried any out?

Most of the stuff in TESVEdit is above my abilities.  I can do basic stuff, but I've spent hours trying to get things to do what I want, but just can't do it.  I have followed several recommended guides but nothing worked right.  The CK, the best I can do is simple edits, but couldn't ever get anything to stick without crashing the game.  I had way better luck with Fallout 3 and NV's GECK.  I dunno why, but even then, all I was ever able to do was vanilla companions.  Never could get anything fancy like some of the better modders out there.

I managed to get some things working, but nothing exactly to the point I was ever satisfied with.

Getting familiar with TES5Edit program does require knowledge of CK. TES5Edit is much better in many ways for editing over CK. Like an example would be if you use MO and open TES5Edit to modify a plugin, it won't send your plugin to the overwrite folder. The downfall of it is changing visual settings like an NPCs hair, you cannot see the changes until you either check in CK or in game. You can also avoid crashes from CK using TES5Edit.

I wouldn't waste my time with Skyrim NPC Editor. That tool may have been very useful, but there are older methods and even newer methods to editing a NPC. Whether it's just their stats or making visual changes like changing hair, ajusting their cheekbone, chin, nose etc...

What I would do if this was me, I would either edit their stats in CK or TES5Edit. If I want to also make changes to their face, I would find their facegendata (meshes/nif) and paste it into the skse/plugins/chargen since I am using RaceMenu v3+, act as if I was going to use Alva as a playable preset but instead just import the head in sculpt tab and (making sure to pick their proper race. Alva should be Nord) switch over to the sliders tab, make changes there, and then switch back to the sculpt tab and refine the face more.

I think I have head.  I have a DDS and a NIF.  Just gotta understand what to do next. :/

Tho the ONE thing I would love to add to Alva is Vampire teeth, but can't figure out how to do that.  The eyes I am not so bent on.

For now tho, I will keep researching, and hope I find the answer. :D

I managed to get her kinda changed via the CK, but not that impressed with the changes.  The face is darker then the body.  Ugh.  I couldn't figure out how do the face sculpt, so put that aside for now.

I just dunno what to do, so gonna just drop it for now.  Go back to just not trying to figure it out, since I apparently don't have the patience to figure our the stuff on my own with the guides.

You got the dark face because of the problem I mentioned previously. The game didn't accept your changes and tried to load the default face which resulted in discoloration. If you want to create a face using RaceMenu then use it for a NPC then you have to follow a couple of steps first. Here's the tutorial I use. It's a little dated since it was created using an older model of RM but the steps are essentially the same. You'll use the export feature instead of the export shout and so on.

Does the person have a FaceGenData folder? If they do go get a vampire fang mod and load the heads up into nifskope till you find a female head grab it and take it and place it into their folder. Now make a copy of their head and make a new folder and place the head into it for safe keeping. Load up the vampire head turn the head till you can see the mouth part and right click it and go to block - copy branch go up to load and click it and load the other head turn it again to see the mouth and right click it and go to block - remove branch. Now in the left list look for BSFaceGenNiNodeSkinned (which is the scene root in face gen head nifs) right click the line and go to block paste branch. Look and make sure nothing is clipping if it is find the next female vampire head and try that one and keep on till you find the one that will work. Once you find the one that works after pasting the mouth part in hit the save as button to overwrite the nif then go into game and check it out.

Hair on the other hand can't be done this way unless you add the nodes the hair needs into the head nif.

I tried Nifscope, and much like Photoshop and other similar programs, it is beyond me.  I don't understand it.

I've tried the guides, and I just don't get them.  I am just going to accept my limitations and leave it at that.

Not in my game. She becomes neutral and just sits in the bat cave going to sleep. But she has gone hostile or she's been killed by one of her own before.

She's one of the very few sultry voiced NPCs you can actually turn into a follower. Won't work with EFF or any of those follower overhaul mods, but I use a bat file to convert her to a follower and then use the usual EFF for the follower commands.

By default, she's supposed to die.  Either she is supposed to attack you in her house, or in the cave.  Usually I just enslave her and have her follow me around.  Serves her right for doing what she did.  hehe.
