Unknown_User Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/articles/50370/ Well... you know, this is an *adult* forum, so you might want to hide them.
Setekh Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 Interesting, did not know that. WTF were Beth thinking including that ffs. Luckily the few mods I've released do not include any scripts but this is pretty dumb on Bethesda's part.
Monsto Brukes Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 Interesting, did not know that. WTF were Beth thinking including that ffs. Luckily the few mods I've released do not include any scripts but this is pretty dumb on Bethesda's part. They weren't thinking anything. This is a standard config in programming and dev teams. I'm betting that it never even occurred to anyone at all that this stamp was even there, let alone that it would eventually face the general public. That's the first thing. Second thing is that the game came out in 2011. "Privacy" and Security were topics, yes, but that entire field got a social curb stomp 2 years after the game was released thanks to Snowden '13. IOW, at release, the mindset was completely different. So no, they weren't thinking ANYTHING. They were just making a game and really unconcerned about security because, you know, it's just a game. Move along... nothing to see here.
bjornk Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 Never thought about checking pex files for personal information. Thanks for the warning. I always use pretty generic names for user names and machine names but I still don't like the idea as it's a security issue as well. This is pretty much a privacy scandal. I suppose I won't be sharing any Skyrim scripts from now on. Let me also remind you that those SKSE dump files also have pretty important information about your PC, so be careful where you upload them. PS. You might want to change the title of the OP so that more people can become aware of the issue. I think this is pretty important. So no, they weren't thinking ANYTHING. They were just making a game and really unconcerned about security because, you know, it's just a game. Move along... nothing to see here. This is no longer an excuse for a company trying to make money out of other people's mods.
Unknown_User Posted October 25, 2015 Author Posted October 25, 2015 Well, if you have "MS Visual Studio", write a code and compile something. MSVS will add your computer information(and machine model, etc) to binary file(.exe file). I just want to say, "be careful when you upload something, especially .exe and .pex files". I'm just surprised many people still use their unique name as computer name(which is quite funny XD). Especially here in LoversLab, if your name is "John Doe" and your computer name is "JohnDoe" your true identity ===possible link=== your uploaded sex mods Colleague: "Hey John, is this your mod?" John: "...Yeah, why?" lol > You might want to change the title There's no "edit" button to change this topic's title. =======================For example======================= Forensic User: "I want to know about SOS's developer." (SOS ... http://www.loverslab.com/files/file/498-sos-schlongs-of-skyrim/ ) (looking at SOS_Debug.pex) --- SOS_Debug.psc Usuario USUARIO-PC --- Forensic User: "Usuario? What's that?" --- http://www.spanishdict.com/translate/usuario 1. (general) a. user --- Forensic User: "Ok so he's in Spain. Let's see my guess is correct." --- http://www.loverslab.com/topic/23944-sos-schlongs-of-skyrim/ "Typing in English is too much time consuming for me" --- Forensic User: "He's not using English in his daily life. My guess is 99% correct :-)"

Groovtama Posted October 25, 2015 Posted October 25, 2015 Lol that is so goddamn old. If you don't wnat to go around with HXD, take VMware, VirtualBox or whatever, do a VM, install the steam and creation kit and use the windows console to compile.
bjornk Posted October 25, 2015 Posted October 25, 2015 Well, if you have "MS Visual Studio", write a code and compile something. MSVS will add your computer information(and machine model, etc) to binary file(.exe file). Only if you compile your code with the debug information, IIRC. Some stuff from TESV.EXE, bet this executable was compiled with debug info. c:\_skyrim\code\tesv\facegen\matrixVT.hpp C:\_Skyrim\Code\TESV\Gamebryo\CoreLibs\NiAnimation\NiControllerManager.cpp C:\_Skyrim\Code\TESV\Gamebryo\CoreLibs\NiAnimation\NiMultiTargetTransformController.cpp C:\_Skyrim\Code\TESV\Gamebryo\CoreLibs\NiAnimation\NiFloatInterpolator.cpp ... Bethesda writes lousy, buggy, unoptimized code. Doubt they have any concern about privacy and security. There's no reason to put your trust in them.
Unknown_User Posted October 25, 2015 Author Posted October 25, 2015 @Monsto Brukes Thanks, I changed the title.
