Hi Everyone.

I'm a newbie here so if I have posted in the wrong section please move the thread or let me know I have commited a faux pas.

I have played Skyrim in vanilla on Xbox and quite enjoyed the game but as I have been lucky enough to get my hands on a new gaming rig I have decided that I would like to play it incorporating the beautiful and sexy mods that I have seen on this site and others.

I have bought the Legendary edition for PC off Steam which has all the DLC's so no problems with content. What I am trying to say is I would really like to have some guidance on which mods, sexy and game beautification, would make this an almost real world experience (well, a real fantasy world experience really).

The rig has 8 gig of ram, i5 4690K cpu and a GTX970 gpu so quite high specs.

Thanks in advance.

Just follow your penis.

I would advise to install one mod at a time, test it vigorously before moving to another one. If you install too many at once "you're gonna have a bad time"

There is tons of tons and even more tons of info and tutorials around here and YouTube.

Start small, and get to know what each mods does and how it will impact your game.

Slowly add mods, check if they work, add some more.

Before you know it, you will a have clear understanding how structures of folders, mods, programs, etc etc works, and pretty soon you will be able to mod your game without even thinking.

It's not the modding of your game that is hard, difficult and tedious. It's all the reading and then some more reading.

But necessary if you screw something up, and need go back to correct it.

Thanks, good advice.

Is there a mod manager available that would let me add and remove without too many tears?

Nexus Mod Manager is a fairly simple tool, but it does kind of lack function and can leave your Skyrim folder a mess if you remove mods. Mod Organizer, on the other hand, is a very, very powerful tool with tons of great functions and it will NEVER mess up your Skyrim folder (because it doesn't add anything the /data/ folder and creates a virtual one outside of the game). It does come with a steeper learning curve, though.

"Gopher" has a YouTube channel that would be quite helpful to you in regards to learning how to mod your game and he also has a Mod Organizer video that will help you decide if that's the right tool for you.

I second what Gvman said.

Here's a link to Gopher's "Beginner's Guide to Modding Skyrim" playlist. This short series provides a good set of basic mods to get started, from bugfixes to textures to environmental additions, gameplay enhancements and other bells and whistles. Gopher takes it nice and slow and easy to follow and has a really good teaching and speaking style. This is what helped get me started when I was a newbie modder, and I was able to build and experiment off of this and gain more experience. Next thing I knew, modding had become second nature.

As much as I like MO and have no problem recommending it, I do find basic knowledge of how the folders and files are structured to be handy.

Knowing where meshes/textures, characters, actors, nifs, and dds go is handy for understanding how overwrite works and where to pick and mix and match your character and armor model and texture.

MO sort of hide all that despite telling you all the conflicts at a glance

If you run across mods that need repacked for MO you'll learn file locations and folder structures out quickly or fail.
