IS DragonAge Inquisition modable?

Haven't heard that they plan to release any kind of modding tool (like creation kit for skyrim)

And without that creation of sophisticated mods would be insanely hard so i doubt that much of such mods would ever be created.

Various replacements would be most likely possible - like different textures, animations, more items. Usual stuff.

Work for simple file replacement is already in the works. The people over at xentax were sble to use bf4 tool to extract the music. Given some time im sure they will figure out the file structures.

Instead of an override folder like the previous games, it uses an update folder. The files are more encrypted than compressed. Apparently the cas file format is the same used in wow addons, though sadly the program apparently didn't work on the DA:I version.

Honestly the main thing I want to edit is the chargen file, so I can add more options, like hairstyles to the existing sliders. You can actually view some of the file info through notepad, but most is garbled in encryption.

The original dao was a pain to mod at release as well. Had to use alot of crazy tools to convert back and forth. Heck even skyrim was the same way prior to the ck release. I also was even modding the witcher 2 long before redkit was released. Which if i recall, was a different format than the original witcher. The only diff is nobody has made much in the way of work to modding frostbite 3.

Instead people just say its impossible, without knowledge of it or modding at all. That kind of talk doesn't help inspire people to make attempts. Right now im doing my best all over the net to share info between people making honest attempts. I'll let you guys know if there's any major progress.

@windpl - well that's because its not directx 9, and the author sadly never continued the original work. I was attempting to use it for gw2, but it was a tad buggy even in that version of directx 9. I do see an option for another graphic profile in game, but its locked sadly.

True, but any attempt of injecting code will fail thanks to devuno. So even if there was texmod for dx11, it would be impossible. And it is easiest way when files are encrypted.

Whelp despite all my attempts to use their tools, I had no luck.  I also noticed something strange, which was the cas files weren't being accessed or shown to be accessed while the game was running.  Though, that didn't stop me lol.

I stumbled upon yet another tool used on bf4, and it could be similar/same as the bf4 audio extractor.  Regardless after using the guide here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVUv_L7m4g8

I was able to start dumping the game files (while actually its still doing it lol).  Now what's really interesting was the file names, which were very reminiscent of the previous dragon ages:

Example:

mt_basa_hf_mesh

hf_hed_bas_d

hf_hed_bas_n

hf_hed_bas_s

Sadly they came out in a format i'm unfamiliar with called ebx, though the extractor I used came with a ebx to tex converter.  So we'll see what happens.

If anyone else is interested in trying it out, here's the site it came from:

glad to hear there is progress with any form of mods for this game.

Finish the game already. Is good , stable, solid, impressive, good graphics. In the mature part is null. The first DA origin was more spicy than this one.

well to be fair you do see nipple in some sex scenes.  thats farther then DA:O did i believe.

i not know why the game companies don't make tools for help modders to make mods for they games thanks to the modders they make more money because people buy they games for only to play it with mods. EA is a encrypted company is like Apple with they iphones is hard to the teams to make a tool to hack the iphone and EA is a real

Asshole when it comes to mods. they like money well help modders and you will have more money because people who not want to play Dragon Age Inquisition will play the game for only to add mods to it. Like me i buy Oblivion,Fallout games and Skyrim for only add mods to it. more money to Bethesda Softworks Team. LOL

EDIT: i not saying the Dragon Age Inquisition is a bad game a love Oblivion,Fallout games and Skyrim and i going to buy Dragon Age Inquisition to. but i want to have mods on it.

Well just so you guys know we already have unpacked the entire game.  One of the creators, Ehamloptiran, was able to replace a texture.  He's working on quite a few things, such as mesh replacement.  I don't know if any of you played ME3, but WarrantyVoider is also working on this project.  WV plans to make a gui version of Ehamloptiran's work, allowing us to also preview what we extract.

Feel free to track the progression of the project here:

http://me3explorer.freeforums.org/post13465.html#p13465

You can also download the file extractor here:

http://me3explorer.freeforums.org/post13379.html#p13379

Its all command line, so if you don't know it..you'll have to wait till WV is done with his gui.

Examples of meshes I've been playing with in 3ds max:

I've already started porting Tera armor from skyrim:

The base nude body is really bad, like really bad.  The textures for it are also very bad.  The shape is sorta like UNP with no curves at all lol.  It barely even has hips.  Hopefully either someone will port a good body type, or create a new one.  This progress had all been made in less than a week.  Eham feels his tools are ready to use, he'll release them.  The biggest test will be if we can add new things, but so far it seems like the game doesn't reject our changes.  Give it a month or so, and mods will be pouring out ;p
