greyspammer Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Hello! I currently have a problem with the gasmasks taken from the Shiny Catsuits Mod. In the original mod, the masks use only the slots 31 (hair) and 41 (long hair). That leads to the problem that elven ears clip through the gasmask (see screenshot below). It was my understanding that this would be easy to fix by setting the gasmask to also occupy slot 43 (ears). Which I did in both the armor and the armor addon (I even added it to the NIF, just in case). However, while the ears are somehow cut off, portions of them still clip through the mask (again, see screenshot for comparison). Is there any way for me to fix this? Obviously it could be fixed by altering the model itself to accommodate for more ear space, but that is beyond my current skill. So I'm looking for an easier way. A setting I have missed or something like that. I found this body parts description and it mentions another ear slot (143). But I cannot set that in the CK and if I add it to the NIF, nothing changes. But maybe there's another way?
blabba Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 You would have to either alter the mask model as you suggested. Or alter the head dismembering to include more ear faces in the ear slot (so that they disappear from the mesh when a helmet is equipped).
greyspammer Posted November 7, 2014 Author Posted November 7, 2014 Or alter the head dismembering to include more ear faces in the ear slot (so that they disappear from the mesh when a helmet is equipped). Ok, first of all: I understood only about half of that. So forgive me for asking stupid questions. I do not have any modelling experience at all. But If I understand that correctly, wouldn't it require me to load the head mesh of every race into, let's say, blender and assign the faces to new groups? Because that doesn't seem practical, even if I could do it (which I can't). It would be a compatibility horror.
winny257 Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Oh my, who needs in Skyrim, a gas mask? this is not a war game with a gas attack. some "love" this fetish.

You can't ck your way out of mesh clipping usually, can't even nifskope your way out of them most of the time, unless you really like math lol. Another alternative is to use an alpha on the diffuse texture for the head to hide the ear parts still sticking out. (Again this really isn't suggestable or a good idea, but just throwing it out there)
greyspammer Posted November 7, 2014 Author Posted November 7, 2014 Too bad. Ok, it worth asking at least. Maybe some time in the future I'll get into that modelling voodoo. For now, I'll just have to work around it. Player character will just have to be human. And if I have to put an elven NPC in a mask, I could replace her with a human. Or 'setrace' her into one. Nobody will see her face anyway, so how would they know the difference?
Heromaster Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 By the inherit perks every race has. So switching the race is a bad idea.

For example when i changed my 2 handed nord warrior into breton i was quite surprised to find that my 2 handed weapon skill was replaced with 1 handed not sure but i wouldnt be surprised if this would also cause gray face bug
greyspammer Posted November 7, 2014 Author Posted November 7, 2014 Like I said: I would switch the race only for (my own) NPCs, not the PC or NPCs from vanilla Skyrim. Perks and skill do not matter in those cases. Grey face may be a problem but again, the face is behind a mask. If it is still a problem or if I do need the perks for those one or maybe two NPCs I'm talking about, I can just prepare a replacement actor in the CK and switch them out.

Kaz Aanh Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 It annoys me too , when i wear helmets and my ears are clipping through them.
Heromaster Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Btw a much easier solution: Change the slot to helmet, ears, hair and long hair both in the CK (Armor and ArmorAddon) and nif file. Then there will be no clipping anymore.

Of course, 31 - hair, 41- long hair and 43 - ears are present. Can you please explain where is this option because i would like my Wood Elf character to not have this annoying elf ear clipping issue.
