Latest zaz 6.5 loaded.

That should be the right zaz version. Anything over 6 will work, I believe.

 

When you get back on, try this patch:

 

Devious Manual without DD.7z

 

It removes Devious Devices as requirements.

It really kind of neuters the mod... but the quest and everything else should be just fine.

 

If you're still getting a CTD when setting stage to 60, or when walking around in Falkreath, then the DD isn't the issue.

If so, I'm stumped... I have no earthly idea what might be going wrong.

In that case, please post a papyrus log... it might help me figure this out.

 

If this patch does work, though, it's still leaving questions... what about your setup could be causing DD to malfunction here? In that case, also please post your papyrus log, because I'm very curious. :)

Damn... thought that might fix it. One the one hand, too bad, but on the other, I'm glad it's not that.

 

I wish I was better at reading these logs... here's what I can gather from it...

 

Did you recently uninstall any mods? Particularly, did you uninstall EFF? Or are you using any mods that require EFF as a dependency?
If so, did you clean your save?
 
Some errors relating to zad, but if you updated and those cleared up, good...
 
A lot of errors related to weapon scaling. Are you using any mods that dynamically change weapon sizes or something like that?
The repeated freezing and thawing just after that is telling me there might be a skeleton issue... What skeleton are you using?
 
To be clear, I'm not certain that EFF/zad/skeleton is the cause, I'm grasping at straws here.

I don;t have any EFF/AFF or what ever (I hate followers they just get in the way)

No mod unistalled this is a new game start (no alternate start either just vanila) I ran until exit Helgin than enabled sl and dependecys

onlt the DLC unoficial and some female idle fixes before that.

I guess I could re-start an use XP32 2.24 to see if XPMS is the prob.

It was this line from your log that led me to think EFF might have had something to do with it:

It really sounds like you've got a near-perfect setup for this mod.

Nobody else has reported these problems, though, so I'm less inclined to think it's this one... BUT... if it was some other mod, I'd expect you to be having crashes elsewhere in the game too, not just when advancing this quest.

 

So... I'm terribly sorry, but I'm at a loss. I can't think of any solutions here.

You could try posting this problem in the tech support forum, but chances are you'd get people telling you to ask me about the problem.

As much as I hate to say it (and I really do hate to say it)... your best bet is probably to not use The Devious Manual. :( :( :( :( :(

I'd install Groovtama's XMPS-E 2.75 or higher and keep it up-to-date, just because it's good to have a good base.

Your DD expansion should be v1.2.1 (latest)

 

I doubt either is the cause though.

 

Could you do the following;

Start the game after updating DDx

console: coc whiterun, then coc shriekwindbastionexterior01

If you crash at this point there is something horribly wrong with the cell...

 

if not then console: setstage cocoq1 50 and see if that does anything significant.

I don't know the exact stage that places the courier, but I'm sure CoCo will divulge that after a cup of brine... :P

Not a bad idea. I tend to think it's the mod, because setting the stage to 60 (where the courier shows up) causes a crash... but testing out that cell can't hurt.

Thanks I'm going to work though minimising even further the mod list (only have 0x23 in the mod list now so its faily light),

run to exit helgin and the only untoward message in the log is now to do with collarPostureLeatherRendered, which from the forums seems common ish...

so prob not the issue

Had to not use groov's alt anim's and re-run finis to get rid of the other spam's in the log.

I'll run up to the 2;nd book and see if the changes cure the issues before stoping other mods and then running up form my clean/virgin master save in helgin

I'll let you know if I find the get-round/fix/problem what ever or of course just fluke through due to the vaguries of beth's stable jelly

That jelly, it be wobblin! Troubleshooting installs is like riding a drunk horse. You think you know where you are going, but it takes you interesting places... usually solid walls or trees... that is... until it collapses.

Well dug and found the problem

Had some unpb meshes loaded (not compatible with devious 1.2.9 ect now) , cleaned them out and loaded Diamond's 1.2 unp and all ran fine, one of the cleanst mod's with no issues I've played.

 

Two small things befre R arrives at the house H can be at the door when you enter and that give the feeling that you have just walk through her.

And did you consider in the fight with the wisp researcher she could defend her self with one of her  potions if you don;t dispach her quick enough and then curse herself for acidentaly using the strong potion so she is not going to learn much other than seeing you die........ :-/

Whew... glad it's working now. I didn't consider the possibility that it would be a body issue... I removed DD from the mod in that patch, so I thought it should have fixed it. Must be something left over somehow.

Reported conflict with Skooma Whore...

 

 

Added a compatibility patch.

Do not use the compatibility patch if you aren't using the latest (1.0) version of Skooma Whore. It won't break the game, but you'll get a bad-looking room in the Markarth Warrens if you do.

 

Also, the compatibility patch will undo the Khajiit Speak patch.

 

I'm thinking of getting rid of KS for this mod entirely, especially since it's so damn outdated, and would take a lot of work to get up to par (basically rewriting all the dialogue).

The ponygirl farm was a planned feature that never made it out of the planning stage. ;)

The design document for this mod just kept growing and growing until eventually I split it into two. I was actually halfway through making the second part of it (much bigger, actually) when I frigging lost the ESP I was working on. Dozens of hours spent carefully modeling a large city, gone. Kind of knocked the wind out of my sails, there. I may revisit it at some point.

But the Devious Manual, I consider pretty much complete at this point... I won't be adding anything new to it unless bugfixes are required.

Description:

This little mod adds several books to the game.

The books are a descriptive user's manual for Devious Devices, in nine volumes, with pictures.

There are also a couple of other books too, that don't necessarily have much to do with the quest.

You get (most of) the books by doing a series of fetch quests for Herra, at her house at the Half-Moon Mill in Falkreath hold.

Possible conflicts, Known Bugs, and other issues:

Things that modify any of these cells *might* conflict (but probably won't):

. Half-Moon Mill exterior cell

. Northwatch Keep interior

. Bonechill Passage interior

. Morthal, Alva's Cellar interior

. Markarth Warrens interior

. Hob's Fall Cave interior

. Shriekwind Bastion exterior cell 1

. POI Fall Forest exterior cell 25

. Solitude Bard's College interior

I have yet to find any actual conflicts at all, but you never know what other mods are out there that do things to those cells...

In general, everything should be fine unless you're using a mod that MASSIVELY alters those cells.

This mod has been reported to NOT conflict with Captured Dreams.

Anything that modifies the following NPCs might break progress in this mod:

. Grogmar gro-Burzag (Shor's Stone)

. Anton Virane (Markarth Understone Keep)

. Garvey (Markarth Warrens)

. Odar (Solitude Blue Palace)

Note that this means that if you've killed any of those NPCs before installing this mod, it'll break progress. A possible fix is to .placeatme them if they're missing.

. Herra's mouth stays open and her lip animations when speaking twitch oddly after her gag is removed. There's nothing I can do about this. Saving, exiting the game, and re-entering fixes it.

. It is possible to fast-forward the quest, possibly breaking things, by pickpocketing books 1, 4, and 7 before the quest reaches that stage. You should probably not do that. ;)

. Many people have problems finding the dead courier(s). These posts HERE and HERE and HERE and HERE and HERE should help.

. Exiting dialog early at some stages may lead to the quest becoming unfinishable. Also, pickpocketing or otherwise obtaining the books before they are needed for the quest may break progress.

. Alva may be hostile or nonhostile, and her schedule may alter quite a bit, depending on the status of the Laid to Rest quest. I am not sure if killing her before that quest is completed would mess it up, so I recommend stealth to get her book.

. Cutting Room Floor v1.13 adds in an NPC to Kynesgrove (Froa, daughter of Kjeld and Iddra). This isn't exactly a conflict, but it makes no sense to have two Froas there. :)

. If you are using Skooma Whore v1.0, you'll need to download the Compatibility Patch. Failure to do so will block you from accessing the Markarth den. If you are using a previous version of Skooma Whore (or not at all), you should not download the Compatibility Patch, because the Markarth Warrens will look odd if you do.

Important things I have learned:

1. :@Aliases are only necessary for scenes. For everything else, there's Mastercard properties.

2. Object references are generally the best way to enable/disable objects. Duh.

3. Planning is very important. Double duh.

4. There's a reason vanilla quest stages usually go by tens and not ones. Inserting quest stages is sometimes very important.

5. When you get started writing dialog, it's hard to force yourself to stop.

6. Setstage scripts don't seem to want to run at the end of dialog branches, only in the middle. Aah, Skyrim.

7. Creating new dialog views for every topic is unnecessary. Triple duh.

8. Creating new topics for every dialog option is unnecessary. I'm running out of duhs, here.

9. Pointerless quests are more fun than pointered quests. Your mileage may vary.

10. Save. Often. The Creation Kit likes to crash at random intervals.

11. Don't save too often. Keep backups of your work from before you decided to be an idiot and change something drastic.

12. <Alias=player> only works for your own voice. NPCs can't say your name.

13. Sex through dialog is easy. Sex through other means is hard.

14. Scripts in dialog generally work better than scripts in quest stages.

15. There are NUMEROUS exceptions to point 14.

16. Okay, :@Aliases are useful for a couple of things other than scenes. Mostly stuff dealing with actors.

17. And :@Aliases can really FUCK YOU UP if you let them. I'm with Veladarius and Jfraser - I hate the buggers.

I don´t know why but after i talked to Herra she says "here is a copy of a book" or something like that, but i didn´t get the book and when i go to get the next book the person didn´t give a dialogue about her book so how can i go on in this mod? Sorry for bad english!

It sounds like the initiating quest stage failed to set properly.

Try this - in the console, enter this:

 

setstage cocoq1 25

 

And that should advance it properly, and you should get a quest added to your journal.

I don´t know why but after i talked to Herra she says "here is a copy of a book" or something like that, but i didn´t get the book and when i go to get the next book the person didn´t give a dialogue about her book so how can i go on in this mod? Sorry for bad english!

found the problem! after reinstalling the mod with NMM I got the message that there where no Files in the Mod! After installing it manually it works! So must be a Problem with NMM! Thanks so long!

I noticed a small glitch that affects this mod and others of Content Consumer. The very lastest version of NMM seems to have problems installing them, I found out it's because of the filename (the space before the .7z). Older NMM versions did not have this problem.

 

I put a space in to more easily visually differentiate the file extension from the filename (my eyes aren't quite as good as they used to be), but I'll go ahead and omit the space from now on.
