xenic Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 So Jormungandr pointed out that Steam disabled the "Disable AutoUpdate" option. All it would take now is Bethesda to release an update to kill a large chunk of our modding. I realize the odds of that are low but how often do you say "that'll never happen" and then it does. I posted on the Steam forums and I hope many more people do. http://steamcommunity.com/app/72850/discussions/0/34095132013235774/ If we get loud enough, I'm sure someone will notice. Anyway, what are your thoughts on this?
Alpia Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 For Skyrim I see no problem the last update was over a year ago, but for future games it could get annoying and I see no point why they took this option out. Standart option is anyway to update allways so if someone changes it to no updates they should know what that means (living with bugs no online play etc.)
Kaz Aanh Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 It only updates .exe files and update.esm right? So why not back-up those files. Just in-case something bad happens.

Because when it does, 99% of all Skyrim players will have to wait for the silverclock team to spin their clockworks again for an SKSE update. Please don't get me wrong, i love what those guys are doing since the SKSE makes all the awesome mods possible. It's just that these guys have also a life and can't just jump onto their computers and bust out an update in mere minutes after the release. Now this is just a matter of patience though. What would bother me more is that every single one of us will have their game propably turned into a CTD crapfest because i'd guess 70% of all loaded mods would require an update as well. That's also a matter of patience, but on a scale that's a bit too large. It only updates .exe files and update.esm right? So why not back-up those files. Just in-case something bad happens. Making backups is never wrong, but if you overwrite the updated .exe it'll get patched up the moment you start the game again. This isn't just about convenience or only Skyrim, it's more of a matter of principle in my oppinion. I mean those computers we are all sitting infront of are OUR computers and not Valves. And i think i'm very right when i say, the administrator, meaning US, has the right to do the updates and not some money sucking clusterfuck of a company like Valve.
...0... Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 Glad i bought The Witcher 3 at GOG.COM don't have to deal with bloody steam and there DRM system.

Setekh Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Glad i bought The Witcher 3 at GOG.COM don't have to deal with bloody steam and there DRM system. I pre-ordered from there also.
lexv Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 I dont think, that it is treat for our Skyrim savegames and mod compartiblity (simple because Bethesda dont want to throw more than half of our mods to closet). I think its done because Watch Dogs and The Worse's mod. There is very strange and unclear story about Watch Dogs E3 graphics and The Worse's mod. Ubisoft and STEAM on evil side - that's enough to know for me.
