In one week they came up with: spears water animation based on flow seasons water arrows from thief better guard AI cloth physics mounted combat Adoption SSAO Now is it me or should all this stuff have been in the game in the first damn place?
Kraxon Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 What's a SSAO? Amd what is the meaning of "water arrows from thief"?
demongoat Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 What's a SSAO? Amd what is the meaning of "water arrows from thief"? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Screen_Space_Ambient_Occlusion it is a shader effect first used in crysis. if you ever played oblivion they have a lot of different types with the obge. water arrows.. no idea.

MonkeyShoulder Posted February 9, 2012 Author Posted February 9, 2012 SSAO is Screen Space Ambient Occlusion its used to add depth by creating more realisitic shadows when used correctly - and its missing from skyrim if you don't use ENB or a similar hack. As for water arrows, the stealth system in both Oblivion and Skyrim takes its cues from another franchise called Thief. In fact as far as I can remember the same person who did the stealth system in Thief did it in Oblivion. In thief stealth is highly dependant on sound and light. If you are a lighted area you'll be seen, if you make a lot of noise you'll be heard. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wrcYCWtgkmM < thief gameplay showing stealth and lock picking. To stop you being seen in thief you can use water arrows to cause torches to go out, creating large pools of shadow for you to sneak around in. Right now in Skyrim, the lock system AND the stealth system take cues from thief but in both instances the systems in thief are better. The lock picking system is more complex and harder - with you having to unpick multiple rings of locks and you can put out torches with water arrows and muffle footsteps with moss arrows (which put moss on the area of ground you aim at).
Kraxon Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Hm.. I find the lock system hard enough as it is. But these water arrows do sound interesting.
DocClox Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Hm.. I find the lock system hard enough as it is. But these water arrows do sound interesting. Water arrows let you put our torches and fires by shooting them. Essential the way stealth worked in Thief. Don't really need 'em in Skyrim
Chase Roxand Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Now is it me or should all this stuff have been in the game in the first damn place? Yes, but remember that games aren't developed like mods. Most of what we see in vanilla Skyrim was part of a long development pipeline. The further along things get, the more unlikely that the resources and time to research, develop, implement, test, and finalize those features will be available. As fantastic as these features are, if everyone working on Skyrim tossed in what they wanted, whenever, it would've been an even larger, buggy mess than it already was. That said, hopefully Bethesda can find the time to give PC users these features. Some of them could easily be released as mods in the Steam Workshop, but the ones related to the game code could be tough...
Silk Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Cloth physics was the one that stood out to me - I would have loved to have seen that in skyrim, makes the characters seem that bit more alive. Hell, I would have forgiven them for getting rid of greaves if it meant that we had armour that shifted like in reality.
oblivionwithdongs Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 In the past, they'd have included all this in a patch.
MonkeyShoulder Posted February 9, 2012 Author Posted February 9, 2012 In the past the developer would have delayed the release of the game to put it all in. Baldur's Gate was delayed for over a year and the result revolutionised the CRPG.
Mashi Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 If you've never played thief...well. GOG has it(and the second) now, you should probably stop playing skyrim for a bit, and go pick them up.
velinejoseph Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 I was hoping there's a hunger system... '_' because cooking is the most useless skill in game....but ah =-=;; instead, they add giant crab =A=;
mundaneunspeakable Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 Well I hope they don't wait until Fallout 4 to implement them But yea, why not? Now that Skyrim is out and they have some cash to pay their employees with, let them have some fun.
Evilokami Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 Become a vampire lord Can fly GOD. FUCKING DAMN IT
Moonchopper Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 If these "add-ons" (Lack of a better word) were added to skyrim from the start then the games release would've taken longer for revision or would've been buggier. It sucks though, I really want some of those mods. Since the CK has only been out for so long it'll take a bit longer till we see some game "changing" mods.
pleasethisworks Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 They used the cloth physics for a "fat giant" right? So if that was in the damn game we would have a way to add breast physics that didn't require specific animations right?
Guest Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 ...what is the meaning of "water arrows from thief"? Thief was a very good stealth game and it had different arrow types that did different things... The water arrow would allow you to extinguish fire from a distance. O No there is a torch on the wall that will let every one see me when I pass' date=' Ahh Ha!!! I have a water arrow, bye bye light. For more info see here -> http://thief.wikia.com/wiki/Water_Arrow
Surenas Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 I play the TES IV adaption of Thief called Thieves Arsenal already since five years. And the same goes for flying vampires over Cyrodiil(no fighting mode). Much of what is to be seen ín the vid is already known either way.
Renax Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 They took a week to do this. A goddamn week. How many years did they spend developing Skyrim? How many glitches were there? There is no excuse why they didn't put all this shit into the final product. None whatsoever. fucking consoles, at least it's nice to see bethesda can actually create something with OC though. I guess thats how it goes when Todd is not leading the team.
Riceball Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 I was hoping there's a hunger system... '_' because cooking is the most useless skill in game....but ah =-=;; instead' date=' they add giant crab =A=; [/quote'] I want better and serious cooking mod!
