Upgrading from NMM to MO

I decided to finally abandon NMM (Since my data folder is now a clusterfuck to to almost 200 mods. And yes, I have been merging esp with tes5edit), and I just have 3 questions.

1. Will I have to re-install all my mods one by one?

2. Will my load order be affected?

3. Is there a FAQ somewhere for this?

Thank you in advance.

Have a look at the STEP forum guide to Mod Organizer. The functionality for installs is similar (or very similar as you can have MO handle Nexus NMM download links) to NMM, just with a lot of easy to use features added. You will have to reinstall your mods, but its a breeze. If you have the original zipped files archive you can point MO to those, of just enter your Nexus details and have it handle download installer links for you.

Thanks!

While poking around in the menu's, I found an option to import files installed via NMM.

It does say that this function is in Beta, but has anyone successfully used this option to transfer their mods?

I know it may not seem like a good idea with 200 mods installed, but it's still very tempting...(a.k.a, takin' the lazy way out)

Personally I wouldn't recommend trying to migrate a current install from NMM to MO, absolutely use MO over NMM without question, but if you have a medium/heavily modded Skyrim the NMM import feature in MO will absolutely not work to your benefit.

Doing it all over from scratch is the best most reliable method in my opinion. This way you get the clean data folder, and know exactly what is installed in your game.

Keep NMM so you know what mods you have installed and enabled, then just delete your data folder, reinstall it from steam, reinstall skse using the archive version, clean your now reinstalled dirty master files (how to) and then with the data folder completely fresh with nothing but skse and cleaned master files in it, start installing all the mods you have/had enabled in NMM from fresh up to date downloads in MO.

It's a bitch to do, and you may have a completely broken Skyrim for a day or two while you hack away at it, but it's very worth it in the end.

I agree with Ashal, importing installed files from NMM to MO is a bad a idea, especially when you've got lots of mods, you never know what problems may arise from this down the road, and troubleshooting it would be a pain in the butt and a major headache to deal with. Installing them one by one sounds tedious and time consuming, but it really is the best way to go when you start MO.

If you find reading MO guide a bit tiring, here is a nice video tutorial introducing the basics of MO: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/31499   helped me a lot when I first started MO.

Right, that seems to be the best method.

Guess I'll get started tonight, hopefully nothing ends up too broken when all is said and done.

Thanks for all the help, and consider my problem solved.

Ashal is correct. I am trying to get a decent Skyrim running. I was following a tutorial.. and then I found that one mod had to be loaded .. BEFORE the other one.. In NMM I would have had to go through a whole lot of install and uninstall and selecting which mod to overwrite from which other and what not. .. MO.. drag the mod up in the order on the right side and the overwrites automatacally fixed themselves.. 1 second fix. .. well 5 second fix because I found that some other mods needed to be moved around after that one. ..
