Thanks for the ride

..I have not been on here for a few months.. today I found I could no longer find some mods I had downloaded here before..Then I seen the post from ashen (ashen followers) saying due to policy changes he would no longer be posting his mod here.."very sad"..LL recent policy change spells doom for the content on this site..Once censorship sets in it is only a matter of time before the owners and admin give in to the "politically correct and moral majority"..Once this happens LL will go from a site that host something for every taste along with X-rated mods to being R-rated then PG-13 only hosting mods and allowing comments that keep the mainstream people happy...Seen this happen over and over again on almost every game site in the last few years ..I had high hope LL would not go down that path but recent policy changes our the writing on the wall..I know of several sites that our just like LL I found over the past few months and the sad truth is I was going to share them here but now I dare not.......Freedom is for the few who stand up not for the many who remain seated....Your site was great because it was free from censorship now its day is over on to somewhere else thanks for the ride LL you will be missed.. sorry for the truth LL it makes me sad.......

*shakes head*  I can't get my way so I'm going to rage quit.  If I had a nickle for every time i saw this at DA...

One thing I learned there too...  They always come back.  The people truly leaving just do it.

So reality check here without even knowing the full situation with the other modder the OP mentioned.  There's no such thing as total freedom in a civilized society.  People agree to rules that benefit the collective whole.  That's what stops your neighbor from busting in your head and taking your stuff just because he can.

In my time here, I've seen that this is a pretty damned loose site, in a good way.  All you have to do is not trash each other, keep the adult stuff in the appropriate section and not do / post anything outright illegal like pediphilia.  Sticking carefully to that last rule is what keeps law enforcement from shutting this site down and jailing people.  A mature person has enough wisddom to realize that's a great deal of freedom that only has to be balanced with a minimal amount of common sense responsibility.

I'm a HUGE advocate for freedom in almost all forms.  I'm also wise enough to know the difference between a real freedom issue and somebody looking for attention.

Yeah, sorry everybody else...  BAD last few days and this one just set me off for some reason.

I wager it's about number 13. This was no new policy, but an old one we just needed to spell out again a few times.

- "Y'know, LL just hasn't been the same since we can't get nudy textures to put on kid characters anymore..."

- "Yeah, you can't upload pics of 'em in scandalously skimpy lingerie getting assraped by zombies either..."

- "What's this Leave it to Beaver shit? The whole place is circling the toilet now."

- "Fuck that. Let's storm the barricades and claim our godgiven rights on the basis of this manifesto about censorship I'm typing here."

Pretty much what I figured based on context clues in DarkOne's original post.

People should have enough darned common sense to realize that's a potential issue of federal law there, as well as common decency.

I'll try not to go postal on any more crybabies too :D

There will come a time when we have no choice but to draw the line. Freedoms have their limits and the need for an equal measure of responsibility. This is still very much an adult website, but then we're doing things that keep this site from attracting the wrong types of attention (I think the same is true with the porn industry, in order to protect itself).

Anyone who can't recognize those limits, they'll have to make their own fora even if it means taking a risk of being sent a subpoena or a Party Van suddenly appearing in front of the house.

It's more about legal issues than anything else. Even drawn or virtual child porn can get you into a big mess of trouble in some countries. That being said this was always the rule here on LL, some people just thought it was a smart idea to push the rules to the breaking point i.e. posting a children overhaul mod in the adults only section, next to the dicknipples and rape mods.

I'm sorry but those child mods were getting out of hand and bordering on something truly disturbing. Why people have a problem with not allowing such things is beyond me. To be clear I'm far from being a prude but there is always a line of what is acceptable and what isn't and the one drawn here is a good one.

While I'm all for strictly banning and forbidding child porn, I still find it highly disturbing that everyone seems to agree virtual child porn is BAD BAD BAD but virtually raping, torturing, gaping, strangling and mauling women in the most beastly ways possible is ok because, uh, "just fantasy".

The difference is that those mods involve Adults and not Children. That's a major difference and worthy of recognition. Not everyone is okay with those types of mods and not everyone who uses them is some deviant that has secret fantasies of doing such things. A lot of people use those mods to add immersion to the game world to make it more dangerous for the player or to add a touch of taboo to their game world.

Adults, not Children. That is the difference and it truly is a big one.

I am also all for banning all kinds of peddo stuff. Bullshit excuses like "well, they are not children, just a very young immortal race bla bla and some more bla bla" is a sad one, and I hope no one is buying it. If ppl wants to rape, torture and god knows what in their game, thats fine, but LL should not be the provider of peddo mods. Period.

For 99% it is fantasy but for 1% it isn't thus thought police for everyone.

Every life is equal, death of adult or child have same weight.

Considering all the child abuse scandals that have been in/about the media in the UK recently i think LL wanting to stay out of any potentially grey area in regards to child mods makes a great deal of sense myself.

Yes there are other grey area's such as "virtually raping, torturing, gaping, strangling and mauling women in the most beastly ways possible" but this is a grey area traditional porn has always been in so its familar terriority that has and probably always will be argued over

Site policy is not about condemning one type of content as evil and embracing another as good. It's about being safe and having sitewide peace. Nothing jeopardizes that as much as underage content does.

LL is not government, the media or all of the internet, just one site. Words like 'thought police', 'censorship' and all that are to be used when it comes to public space and airwaves, and fundamental rights viz governments. Don't waste them on this.

LL, while open to the public, is a private site. It's like a bar. If the owner doesn't want fights, people hurling insults at others, or people making it the place to be for getting illegal stuff that could close us down, then he has every right to establish rules against that and expect them to be followed. And if people keep ignoring them, every right to re-state them more explicitly and take action, or else what's the point.

If a bartender tells you to stop doing something you stop doing it or get thrown out, hopefully with a full set of teeth. On LL, the moderation is soft and forgiving, giving people every chance before taking that final step, and people are still completely free to go somewhere else for whatever you can't get and do here. LL is not a police state for having house rules, and we're not obliged to give people everything they want.

Either way, it's done.
