I'll do as for the previous ones : wait for some articles and tests done to be sure it's not buggy.

(anyway I already block steam in my fw to prevent any unwanted update).

Waiting to read your comment on that one ;)

And reports from those who DL it on the steam forums are saying it has increased fps by a big chunk. I have noticed that myself, it is a lot smoother now.

You seem to miss the idea of a "beta patch". It's expected to have bugs. However' date=' if you read their blog post, you'll see that you're able to revert back to the latest official patch if you encounter problems.

Just remember it isn't a good idea to update if you use SKSE or Script Dragon dependent mods.

And besides Beth's patches are already buggy, can you imagine what their beta patches must be like? :D

Only issue with the new one is that sometimes when you open your map, lol, theres all this screaming, raoring, clanking, pinging, and exploding sounds. Scared the hell out of me last night... Other than that it works really good, and increases fps by a lot.

The fact they have a beta for a patch is a little weird if you ask me.

Why pay QA testers, when there's a gazillion people out there willing to QA it for free?

Makes perfect sense :)

Well, judging by the outcry and bugs in the 1st true patch (I am not counting the underhanded drm steam debacle as a patch) this makes a great deal of sense. This way people can opt in to test it and give feedback if it right away breaks the game or quest lines and without the negative screaming or consequences of risking pushing it on the masses and possibly loosing sales over bad patches.

The other way this makes sense is steam doesn't have a roll back feature so if they don't do it this way everyone will be forced to update or forced to turn steam offline to avoid the update. Steam doesn't really like this as you are less likely to buy from a system you have turned off.

An of course this type of testing is far superior to in house trials/testing as the beta testers will have a far more diverse range of computers/components than they can employ. Spread testing among more people and you can test more things in a quicker fashion.

No, what surprises me most is why they haven't done this since day one!!!!!

Skyrim was never out of beta phase.. :P We are consumers and beta testers at the same time..

LOL that's true enough :)

I'm going to download the beta patch this morning, i must say i'm quite looking forward to seeing if it increases my FPS too, it would be great for my Fraps recordings :D

There isn't enough time left on schedule for a public beta-test feedback and possible corrections resulting thereof. Thus the whole beta thingy smells of a bad egg, imo.

Sorry to say that.

I think it's great.

I remember how the Fallout 3 1.5 patch completely killed mods. And how each New Vegas patch introduced more problems than it fixed. And how Skyrim's second patch screwed up many people's games.

I'd say it's about damn time they made use of Steam's beta program.

But you do have a point, even needing a beta for a patch is weird. But until Bethesda can fix their whole buggy-ass game/patches/DLC issue we gotta take what we can get.

This is everything but great - it's unprofessional.

Understandable only under the special condition of a common nervousness (to say the least) of both customers and Modding/Gaming Site owners...

In the light of the announced timeframe up to the release of the alpha this is just a chill pill.

One more good thing about the Beta - it gives those wonderful SKSE folks a chance to build a compatible version before Steam shoves the patch down our throats and breaks mods that need SKSE.
