Not as bad? I'd say it's worse. especially when you connect the dots with those other bills. Looks to me the big plan was to kill "pirate sites" and in one fell swoop catch everyone that used the site and fine them, by looking it up in this nice big cookiejar they thought up.

Fuck this! Fuck you Lamar Smith. You are not going to pass a bill right under our noses! Your cover is "child pornography"?! What the fuck. In reality all you want to do is see who is using pirating websites so you can fine us! This is like Ea origins x1000! Just like SOPA, there are ways to get rid of piracy or child pornography, but NOT by infringing on our OUR RIGHTS. Internet freedom should be one of our fundamental rights as an amendament. and all of those old hags thatrun our country NEED TO FUCKING DIE. WE NEED YOUNG PEOPLE, THOSE WHO UNDERSTAND THE FUTURE AND AREN'T CORRUPT. FUCK. YOU. U.S GOVERNMENT.

Sorry, but I had to, this pisses me off too much to keep me silent. Fuck the government.

Have you Americans thought about a class action?

You have been deprived of legitimate uploads and a facility you relied upon, because rather than take the trouble to identify and remove infringing content, the whole lot has been trashed.

It wouldn't surprise me if the fate of the legitimate content was never considered at all (I bet money the RIAA never mentioned there was any when they exhorted their 'private police force', as they like to see it, to take action). I'd argue that was criminal negligence at best.

Yeah HR 1981 is even more stupid than SOPA. I doubt it will go through BUT Again I encourage everyone who is a U.S. Citizen to sign petitions and contact their Senators and Representative. And if your from another country tell your American friends about it. If there is enough backlash the bill will die in committee and eventually Congress will by process of elimination find law that works to solve problems instead of creating more. But if they don't hear from the voters stupidity can slip through.

This whole situation is becoming beyond ridiculous and somebody needs to get a bullet in the head. Seriously it's like these people think the internet is a horrible thing and needs to be destroyed immediately for the sake of all mankind. Fuck off assholes, go give yourself an acid enema.

Hmm... Interesting Comment:

‎"This article needs to be removed. It has completely misinterpreted the bill. The bill says nothing about recording transactions or search history. The bill only states that ISPs should keep track of what IP addresses they assign to their users. It's so authorities can ask "Who had IP address X on this date/time?" and the ISP will have that information. The bill is completely valid, and it's actually a great idea.

Chris Burns (the author), please read your sources thoroughly before jumping to conclusions and posting false information. "

I have been doing just that, what is sickening is that a ton of people are just like" oh whatever, it wont be like that" and don't seem to give a damn, this is pretty crazy and serious shit!

Texas.

We got Smith from Texas. Texas is part of "The South". "The South" is a blanket term to refer to a place where logic and smarts are not generally favored compared to Jesus, old-fashioned values, and racism.

Blanket statement, yes. And of course not everyone from "The South" is like this, but that should give you an idea of things.

Some states in "The South" include:

Alabama

Mississippi

Tennessee

Kentucky

Texas

Georgia

Well, I would agree with all the states you listed with the exception of Texas. Remember that Texas is large enough to be several states. You have west Texas and east Texas and the differences between the two are HUGE. Then you have Dallas/Ft. Worth and folks there have a mindset more toward progress and modernization than both of the other two put together....just so long as you don't try to take away their beer, big fake boobs or guns!!!! :)

Yea, I admit it I lived in Texas for quite some time (not currently however) so this is first hand knowledge.

So take that partner :)

I live in South Carolina and for the most part, you could add my state to your list although I had a small meeting in the neighborhood and informed everyone about all the crazy shit that SOPA and PIPA want to do and under the falsehood of combating piracy. To my surprise... almost everyone that came said they went home and use the auto email to send their support to end the SOPA and PIPA bills asap. I was pretty proud of all them "good ole boys". :D

Tomfoolery, it sounds like you've gotten your opinion of the south from the media. I'm from Alabama, and while of course there are people like what you described, most people(especially my age and younger) are not. In fact, there's sort of a paradigm shift going on here with people trying to distance themselves from the state's perceived image, which has been greatly exaggerated to say the least. People see something on the news or read about something that was usually taken completely out of context, and it gets blown out of proportion.

Like I don't know if you've heard about the immigration law my state was trying to get passed, which it had to because our country refuses to enforce it on a national level, but pretty much the entire country was like "OMG BACKWARDZ REDNECKS XD" because we try to enforce an already existing federal law. Also, I don't know what your experience has been with them, but not all religious people are bad. That's another stupid generalization. Long story short, the south is not the hellhole you make it out to be. We have little to no crime, (the town I live in has had 1 murder in like 70 years) low cost of living, and is a generally beautiful part of the country. Oh and FYI, Georgia is not part of "the south". They are probably the most progressive state down here. They also have by far the highest crime rate of any state south of the Mason-Dixon. Coincidence?

Anyway sorry for the rant, it gets really old being stereotyped. On topic: that guy is an idiot. How do these people become politicians? Well hopefully the bill will never come to fruition.

That is about the most ACCURATE picture on this topic in existence. PERIOD.

Bastards! Restriction of the freedom on the Internet happens with very good timing. And the purpose is to draw people's attention from the real things they are going to do!

Internet is knowlage and they don't need people who know what is going on. It was never about the intellectual property. It's all about fear.

Thats also interesting-> http://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?38095-SOPA-SCAM--Internet-Piracy-fraud-law

I think that people are looking to this situation with the wrong point of view.

I believe that they don't give a fuck about piracy, what they want is power and the control of the citizens.

What they're really scared of are sites like 4chan or wikileaks.
