Sunja44 Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 My system specs you can read in my sig. My 2x Geforce GTX Titans SLI aren't overclocked, my CPU is slightly overclocked by a usual rock stable Asus UEFI BIOS standard preset (around 3,6 Mhz, usually 3,4 Mhz, not the 4,4 Mhz as written in my sig). I always thought an 850 Watt power adaptor (be quiet) should be enough, but I get crushes to reboot sometimes (no blue screen, and showing blue screens is enabled). So I ask if anybody has a similar experience or similar system setup. It only happens with Skyrim, which is no real measure, because I run it heavily modded (over 200 mods), a heavy ENB preset (Serenity Full) and I play on a 2560 x 1440 resolution screen. There is no other application that would set my system under a similar pressure. My cards reach around 80°C. Could be several issues, a RAM or CPU calculation error, maybe even my home electrification (it's a pretty old house), but a not sufficient power supply (or maybe a faulty one) is my first and most probable guess...

Sounds more like your processor is overheating. I run a single rail 850 watt power supply with 70 amps and I do just fine.
Sunja44 Posted April 29, 2014 Author Posted April 29, 2014 CPU temperature never reaches 60°C, it's cooled by a Thermalright HR-02 Macho Rev.A.
Guest Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 CPU temperature never reaches 60°C, it's cooled by a Thermalright HR-02 Macho Rev.A. How many amps do you got in that power supply? and is it single or multi railed?
nutluck Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 With two titans under a load in a average system would take about 800, assuming your PS is running at peak efficiency then it is just barely enough. It honestly depends on the quality of your PS, but if the PS is old and wasn't a top of the line one to begin with. Then my guess is your PS could be the issue. It also depends on what all else you have in your system. Faster and more ram more power, faster and higher CPU more power etc. So you are either borderline under the PS you need or just over.
CGi Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 The question is: Does the system reboot only when gaming?if yes: Get a new PSU and check your system.if not: Check your system and be aware that nothing lasts forever. Not the PSU, the RAM or anything else. No matter how old something is, sometimes you just got unlucky.
CeeTeeDee Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 enb d3d9.dll does not have controls for gpu temperatures or fan profiles, if you have overclocking software running on startup your fan or temperature limits could give problems, stay with the default driver power + fan profiles. also enb, as far as i know, does not have SLI support, use the nvidia control panel to disable skyrim SLI. limited discussion thread here: http://enbseries.enbdev.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=1082 i'm almost certain its the sli tbh... but i could be wrong.
Sunja44 Posted April 30, 2014 Author Posted April 30, 2014 Sorry for the late replay (I actually had to look up what is single rail and what is multirail: My be quiet 850 W Dark Power Pro is multirail: +3,3 V25 Ampere +5 V25 Ampere +5 Vsb3 Ampere -12 V0.5 Ampere +12 VGesamt70 Ampere V1 30 Ampere V2 30 Ampere V3 35 Ampere V4 35 Ampere According data sheet it should deliver even 950 Watt in pressure times as max output. Here a description of the PS on the english manufacturer site: http://www.bequiet.com/en/powersupply/301 The system does only reboot on gaming and only when I run Skyrim, which is the application anyways that puts the most pressure on my system (over 200 mods, everything replaced by texture mods, official HiRes DLCs unchecked, heavy ENB preset Serenity ENB Full, playing on 1440p) Btw, ENB does not directly support ENB but it does not block it too. The only feature that does not work with ENB and SLI is TxAA (Temporial AA), which I do not need at all because with 1440p you don't need that AA feature because of the pixel densitiy. In addition ENB TxAA still has some ghosting effects, so it's not perfect. Skyrim alone is one of those thankful games that almost double your fps by using a SLI system. I am pretty certain that ENB and SLI is the utter last reason for this issue. I know too many other people who run ENB in SLI without any problems. I guess I will get another power adaptor from somewhere and do a testing run. Maybe I really got a faulty piece.
D_ManXX2 Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 try cleaning your system. and add thermal paste if need be. maybe it is not cooling right because the fan is not applied correctly ??
...0... Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 I run 2x 290x with 850 watt for 3 months now no problems. So it should be enough. It's more likely your game crashes not your system. to many scripted mods or apps in background? OC can also crash your system. Latest SKSE 1.7? Loadorder with boss and tes5edit? Even if you have NASA super computer Skyrim brind down best system eventually.
CGi Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Your PC only crashes when running Skyrim?Unlikely a hardware problem then ... unless the only other games you play are Solitaire and the like.Run a benchmark (3DMark f.e.) and if your PC can finish this one, the problem is based on your installation of Skyrim.
Uriel Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 What? 3dmark? It's not stressing anything at all, compared to the ENBed Skyrim.
CGi Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Was just an example of another program that can stress the PC and that is not Skyrim, as Skyrim crashes for him.Any other advice for a program (that is not Skyrim) that utilizes GPU and CPU to test them is always welcome.

Race Menu now has CharGenExtension + all morph options and DisableFaceGen incorporated, no need to install those mods in addition and have a few more .esps. Of course I use some script mods (whole SexLab is about script mods), but I was very careful with additional script mods. As you see, no Wet and Cold, no Footsteps, no Lightning or Thunder mods, no Dance of Death. Enhanced Blood Textures is running without Screen Blood features and without Blood Pools. I made a post for this not long ago here: http://www.loverslab.com/topic/21682-too-many-script-intensive-mods/?p=763202 There you might see what is possible for script mods and what I use in compare. Just replace SexLab Submit by SexLab Defeat, I experienced that Defeat seems to be more stable and health thresh hold checking works with Defeat much better as with Submit. In addition I like the combination of Defeat and Devious Devices much more as the one between Submit and DD. I still use SKSE 1.06.16. Maybe I try 1.17 when I would know that it is 100% downwards compatible.
CGi Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 SKSE 1.7 alpha is stable, fully backwards compatible and introduces important fixes to the games engine. There's no reason not to use it.
Sunja44 Posted May 1, 2014 Author Posted May 1, 2014 I will give SKSE 1.7 its chance. I am keen on using SexLab Apropos anyways and that needs SKSE 1.7 as a requirement. Besides that, my whole SexLab installation is still based on SexLab 1.39b, I have not upgraded yet and all other dependant mods have the latest version that was fully compatible to Sexlab 1.39b. I will wait til SexLab 1.50+ runs stable and all dependant mods are updated too.

Rayblue Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 If I were you I would also: Check every mod using TES5edit and try to clean them (except for some, such as Convenient Horses) Run PDT (Papyrus Data Transfer) and Savetool to check for any possibility of a bad script Some meshes of certain mods and shaders may cause the game engine to CTD. Use an ENB setting that is less taxing on system resources (I mean, does one need to have DOF on all the time?). Having all textures at 2k and 4k will also impact gameplay performance. Same with meshes with big polycounts. If you could still spare an extra budget, try to bolt in a water-cooling system. If you have MO as your primary mod management tool, there is ModOrganizer.log to examine to determine which file may have caused the CTD. BTW, I no longer use Brawl Bugs CE.esp, as I believe it has been incorporated into recent USKP patches.

Will do, but concerning Use an ENB setting that is less taxing on system resources (I mean, does one need to have DOF on all the time?). You don't know the DoF effect from Serenity ENB, it's exquisite, not to say overwhelming (prod80 improved it in the last update) :-) Here are a few screenhots on my flickr account: https://www.flickr.com/photos/113740199@N08/sets/72157644382470041/
Uriel Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 I would recommend to try running with your OC disabled. Because i've seen a lot of strange-looking problems caused by OC(no, i'm not an OC hater, my i5-2500k runs at 4,3Ghz too). It's just better to check this one too. As for the power supply, if i had your rig, i would have bought something like 1200w PSU for it...probably even more... I'm running that CPU above, GTX 570 and a bunch of hards/ssd's on 1000w PSU. You can also try OCCT Perestroika in different modes. If your PSU is failing, you will probably see voltage drops on 3,3v/5v/12v sensors while in heavy load. You can also use AIDA logging to find out your system's state when it crashes. edit: i also heard that ENB does not work good with multi-gpu. Dont know the details, but you can try searching for the info on ENBdev forums.

So it is, 3DMark is a joke in compare to a fully modded Skyrim with a heavy ENB preset. No, it's not. The way it tests your system can't be done by Skyrim as Skyrims Engine puts stress on the system by reaching it's limits (especially the memory manager) while 3DMark really goes to the limits of your hardware.
Uriel Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Ok, is 3dmark limited by Nvidia through drivers, because it can vaporize your graphics otherwise? That's what happens for FurMark, for example.
