hryh23k9823u Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 I use AFT because as far as I could tell it's the only one that lets you manage werewolf and vamp lord followers and order them to go furry (or bat?) on the enemies. I wouldn't mind switching to a better option, but I really like those features. Everytime I see Expired on the LL chat I always feel like I forget to ask him something ;o
Uriel Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 I tried a lot of of those and still have no idea which one to use. The problem is that eventually some other mod will break that framework/current followers/will bug out because of the framework.

The problem is that eventually some other mod will break that framework/current followers/will bug out because of the framework. So far *knock on wood* I have never had a mod break because of AFT. I have heard some follower mods will cause problems that have their own built in systems though. I personally think there is pro's and cons to both AFT and UFO. I tried them both and felt each one did some things better and some things worse. I ended up going with AFT only because I felt it did the things I find more important better and the cons to AFT bothered me less but that is just personal taste.
Grimbold the unlovely Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 II switched from UFO to AFT several months ago and have never regretted it. AFT has some wonderful tweaks and works well with my two favourite mods (Spouses Enhanced and Apropos).
Deathmaw Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 I used to use EFF. But It does not play well with follower with a custom voice type, at all. AFT has 0 problems with that.
rylasasin Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 I'm using EFF, which is objectively the best of all by far and only one that is not abandoned~ AFT is not really "Abandoned". Abandoned would imply it's incomplete then left to rot. AFT simply reached a point to where there's nothing more to update or add.
venomg3 Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 EFF its the better follower management choice and its separation from the dialogue system makes it far more compatible across the board plus alot of AFTs extras can be replicated by other mods, with the exception of probably the vampire lord
Teruke Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 really? no one noticed how with AFT you can assign any NPC to be whatever you want? Lydia is a warrior type in vanilla Skyrim but you can make her be a mage, ranger, spellsword... and it really makes the follower be that role by modding the skills to 100 for the respective choice AND also makes Sneaking 100 regardless of what you want the follower to be... so i can have a mage that won't make the enemies aware of my presence if I'm sneaking around... great stuff, the best feature for me... >.> ; UFO is too old and EFF indeed has a nice menu, but i still prefer "talking" to my follower rather than click through menus

Well to be fair AFT could have used a little more polish, I use and like AFT. But I still wish they had done more work on the user interface so it was a bit easier to use. It honestly is a bit clumsy as it sits now. I like the mod and use but even as a fan I think it could have still been better. For me the interface is the only real con to AFT.
eifrag Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 I like EFF and its magic system, you teach/forget spells and you can see if an NPC is affected by buffs/debuffs (e.g beeing female, rape victim) you can also view his/her stats, regen, resistances and the party widget is a +++++
Just Checking Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 I'm using EFF since it's not very complicated and hasn't messed with any of my other mods yet. Maybe it is and I'm not looking hard enough, but it's good enough for me.
cornbreadtm Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 I'm using EFF, which is objectively the best of all by far and only one that is not abandoned~ AFT is not really "Abandoned". Abandoned would imply it's incomplete then left to rot. AFT simply reached a point to where there's nothing more to update or add. That's actually wrong. The author abandoned it and didn't add support for any of the DLC after Dawnguard. There are conflicts with Hearthfires housecarls that he admitted to leaving in because he didn't want to buy the DLC (I fixed them myself since it only takes 5 minutes). The mod could use some script optimization but all in all it's the best option when picking a follower framework. Since EFF has conflicts with custom followers, if it didn't it would be the best. Personally I use AFT with FollowerLivePackage. I turn off the AFT relax function and let FLP handle that.

Oh, didn't know about custom followers but tbh I've only used a couple of them and it worked, the only mod that actually didn't worked was Interesting NPC's but there's a compatibility plugin already in the EFF download page. EFF has a relax function aswell btw and its somewhat customizable in MCM too. The relax function is basically sandbox mode, so dunno about that Follower Live but now I'm curious about~
zax Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Using EFF because its future is brightest (its made by one of SKSE authors).
crs030 Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Right now i run the EFF Beta with the InterestingNPC Patch since the only followers i use are form INPC. A while ago i had some issues that could be fixed with reinstalling and loading an older Save, never had problems befor or after that so i never tried anything other than EFF.
RDKateran Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 I'm currently using UFO. I had intended to switch, but I use Cerwiden, which from what I understand doesn't play nice with AFT as it keeps gutting her healing AI. Yes, a lot of people claim now that it works, but frankly I still remember what Mujuro said: that compatibility between Cerwiden and AFT is a joint effort and won't be complete until both are updated for it... and Cerwiden hasn't been updated for it. And furthermore, even with the depressing lack of updates for her I refuse to relinquish her as a companion. So I'm stuck with UFO.
Guest Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Heh, it's precisely because of all these issues people are mentioning that I don't use one! I only really have followers around for dialogue (Mjoll in the vanilla version, one of the 3DNPCs in modded), so I'm not really too bothered if they act like retards. If there was a standalone 'call follower' mod that saved me having to look back to check they're still there, that'd be fine by me. Walking the long way around a cliff because the AI is too stupid to jump is a small price for stability, and my mod list fucks with stability enough as it is. More control over gear would be nice, and if Wardrobe Manager ever became SexLab compatible it would be perfect. Frankly, there's too many issues with the follower mods conflicting with certain other mods, and I really can't be bothered checking what works with what.

Just Checking Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 I'll admit my usage of custom followers has been fairly minimal, but the ones I have used worked fine. Does EFF just tend not to recognize them or something? Or does it have a problem with more complex custom followers like Inigo? I could see the bigger ones conflicting, but the simple followers that are just "placed at [insert inn here], talk to them and they'll love you forever" seem to be fine.
Leito86 Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 UFO. I tried AFT and didn't care for it. It has a bunch of, imo, useless follower options and has a bad case of dialogue-ception iirc.
s.eden Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 EFF (pending overhaul). New name and quite another mod (retrofit + new functions) With http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/33002/? for more functions (even if not really required, guess it would be nice to see how overlapping the two are by now).
OverClocked56 Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 I've been using UFO but as I change constantly mods and saves If I didn't dismiss my followers when changing to another mod your save gets screwed. I'm using now EFF and I like it. I also tried AFT but did not like it, did not have group commands or may be I did not find how, so I stick with EFF.
Justoutthere Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Have always use UFO, simply because it did what I needed (with horse addon) and hasn't borked my game. That said the furry/vamp feature of AFT sounds promising an will prob have a look as I hold no allegiace just use what works till it doesn't
