NMM works perfectly for me, never had any issues!..

You will.

Have you had to reinstall Skyrim yet? You will eventually, and if you used a better mod management program you'd never have to. Just sayin'.....

Hmmm did i say you that i was successful to manually clean a manually installed Skyrim (mods i mean) ? It isn't diffucult in fact. Just demand some patience. And, no, you don't have to reinstall Skyrim, even with manual mods installation. My current install of Skyrim dates from the launch of the game and no problems so far.

My advice ? Always manually download mods and install with NMM / MO (your choice). Keep the archives in case of.

I'm using SG220 hair pack and that works fine, all 6 .esp's and it's .esm. Just install it, it should work.

When you try installing it there will be a window that opens and if it doesn't like the folder's file structure (meaning it isn't the same structure that Skyrim uses) then it will have a message at the bottom written in red. You can right click the top level and "set as data" and that should make it work. Be sure to active the mod after installing, check the pluging in the right page are activated and if there's a bsa be sure to activate it.

Your advice worked for almost every mod I had issues installing! Only issue I have now is the 700 eyes mod. It's written in Asian text and even with your advice it wont work unfortunately. The FNIS issue is still there but at least I got my character back. Only primary issue I have left now set aside for FNIS is getting BOSS to work. >.> even after re installing it and following instructions it will not read Skyrim. :(

The way I got FNIS to work (and it may not be the best way, but it does the trick for me) was to install it manually into my skyrim folder, then set up the pathway to the "generateFNISforusers" exe through MO. Whenever I need to run it I make sure my overwrite folder is empty, then run it through MO. When it finishes, all the files it generates will be in the overwrite folder. I right click that, select "create mod", then give it a FNIS name I'll recognise. That creates a new mod with all the FNIS files in it. I check that and everything is good to go.

If I ever need to run it again on that profile I just do the same thing, then drag and drop any files it puts into overwrite into my FNIS mod, and click ok when it asks about merging folders and replacing files.

I can't help with getting BOSS to work. The only times I've ever tried to use BOSS - both before and after switching to MO - it completely screwed up my load order, forcing me to rearrange it myself anyway. I don't bother with it anymore :(

If I knew how to rearrange my mods manually I would do it myself as well. Kudos on Hobbes Avatar! Love that series so much.

Edit: Ha! Turns out I installed my FNIS the exact way you mentioned. Just have a few overwrites to work out and then I can give it a try.

If you hover the mouse pointer over any esm/esp in your load order in MO you get a pop up message telling you any masters that mod has. That helps a lot with tackling it manually, plus it will give you the red warning symbol up top if anything's obviously out of place.

One thing that slightly confuses me is the priority system. I've had warning messages appear telling me I need to move certain mods into a certain order to avoid potential problems, and when I've checked my load order everything is already exactly as MO is telling me to change it to. The problem was I had them in a different order in the mod list to the left of the window, which sets which mod has priority over another. I kind of struggle to get my head around the point of having a priority system AND a load order, but I guess that's just because I'm still thinking of things the way NMM handled them, rather than the MO way. I just tend to set both lists into the same order and everything works. *shrugs*

And I've always loved Hobbes!

MO is light-years ahead of NMM in Modding Profiles -- Builds, and troubleshooting CTDs, corrupted overwrites etc. Have a bug, CTD, can't figure out which mod it is? but afraid of troubleshooting because of the horrors of NMM's susceptibility to corrupting data directories?

MO fixes all that.

Unfortunately, the learning curve is greater. You'll get the hang of it in a few weeks and have it mastered in a few months. Always choose the 'manual install' feature unless it has fmod features; and choose the full mod title in the 'drop down' menu. This way you'll be able to understand the file tree structure of good modding; and MO can more easily find the mod on nexus when right-clicking 'Visit on Nexus'. Otherwise you'll have to cut-n-paste from the mod name and open properties to past the mod # in 'nexus info'.

My current build is about 400 mods, (250 .esp); and, after a half day of gaming, with no crashes, a papyrus log of only ~60 kb. It would be around 20 kb, but Player Headtracking is a must-have with Merida's HDT Hair. [someone really should do an skse plugin for PHT; PHT also breaks when opening showracemenu, so install after you have customized your characters look, and don't re-do].

You'll soon discovery that you can see all the scripts a mod runs as MO lists all files within a .bsa. You'll then be able to determine the stack-overflows in papyrus log and what mod's .psc are being push into stack-overflows, or causing them... this is the primary reason for ctds in skyrim currently. Stack overflow isn't always bad, but it can lead to critical errors -- ctd.

Well it's Easter. I need to go eat dinner with the family. When I get back I'll see if I can get these overwrites fixed for animations and then I can finally play my character again. Until then happy Easter everyone.

Like Mord Sif said, you can manually install FNIS into the Skyrim directory then set the generator tool as an executable inside of MO. That is just another way to make it work.

BOSS shouldn't take any special tweaking to make work, although MO also knows load orders and will suggest changes. I just set it as an executable and let it run. But lately BOSS has been throwing errors for everyone I guess.

I have installed FNIS and it still wont register the animations. It just registers the regular animations that comes with the game and that is it. This theory did come to mind though and I wont do it until I get some input:

MO has a ability to import mods from NMM to MO. I know its in its early stages but FNIS has been causing my problems for the past 2 days now. My theory is this: Could I install FNIS on NMM then import them to MO and if I did would they be installed correctly to actually work?

Re: BOSS --- since the file update has gone offline in favor of LOOT, turn off auto-updating and leave only sorting.
