...0... Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 I bought a AMD MSI 290x gaming 4g custom card and im already very pleased and impressed with this card. But when i bought this card i was very surprised it came with 2 FREE games of my choosing. I choose Hitman: Absolutions and the Classic REMAKE of Thief which also supports MANTLE and new CrossFire. Thief will not ship with Mantle support, but will be on a later date released. As AMD recently has proven, Mantle can bring a significant performance improvement towards compatible games. one game that will support Mantle will be Thief. Unfortunately, at launch time there will be no support. Thief is due to launch in North America on the February 25th. Eidos however has shared a note where it states that that Thief won’t be shipping with Mantle support and TruAudio. more after the break. Here's that note: Important Update Regarding Mantle and TrueAudio THIEF is a showcase for the awesome gaming performance offered by the PC and we’ve worked hard with AMD to accomplish that, by collaborating on the implementation of several PC-specific features. This includes AMD TrueAudio technology, AMD CrossFire™ technology, AMD Eyefinity multi-display technology and more. As you know, THIEF will also be one of the first games to ship that takes advantage of AMD’s Mantle graphics API. We’re extremely proud of the work we’ve done with AMD to make the PC version of THIEF a stand-out, definitive experience although we have a little more work to do to accommodate all of these new PC-specific features – we are busy working on a patch to support AMD’s Mantle and TrueAudio technologies that is scheduled for March. We’re confident this patch will ensure the best and fastest THIEF experience for AMD Radeon™ customers. We’re sorry we couldn’t bring this to you sooner – although we will use this time to bring you the very best experience possible and will let you know when the patch is ready. We’re happy to say that the AMD CrossFire™ technology and AMD Eyefinity multi-display technology will be fully functional when THIEF launches on the 25th February in North America and 28th February in Europe and other associated territories. I will later give my experrience with this game and its XFIRE+MANTLE gonne benchmark it to the extreme. Loved old thief back more then a decade ago.
storm55 Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Thi4f is a straight up deconstruction of the Thief series, and what it stands for. Anyone who buys it, or listens to you is a fucking crock. I'm actually offended they had the gall to say what they said about customers. Don't bother with the 290X either, it's not supported by jackshit. This is viral.

Captain Cobra Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 The new Thi4f game is shit, for taffers only.
Lobzpooatu Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 It's ok it's his opinion let him have it. Mine well I've had a lot of hands on time with the game and I like it! It's not as good as the older Thief games, but it's still pretty fun. A little redundant and has a corny story line with corny characters, but it has it's moments. Here's the full review of the game on IGN if you'd like get a little more info. http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/02/24/thief-review Personally I'd wait till it hits around 39.99 or less or you can catch a Steam sale going on with it. By then the patch will be available for it as well. That's just me though. About the 290x which is fine too btw and I've read several good reviews and compare it directly to my personal favorite card that I'm to broke to afford the nvidia 780ti. From what I've read on the 290x though most say the only con is it's noisy, but damn the fans on the thing are huuuuuge! So duhhh XP Glad you're enjoying your new card. Jelly.
...0... Posted February 24, 2014 Author Posted February 24, 2014 Nice friendly reply's nvidia fans right? Well i got Thief with my videocard for free so i won't complain. Also im not stuck in the past even tho im also a old time gamer i always try new games or in this case a remake of a old classic. That some say 290x is shit i don't realy care im AMD fan and i have this card now for month and im very pleased with the results its awesome card and alot cheaper then the way overpriced nvidia cards. OH and difference between most nvidia fan's and me is i never go over to a nvidia topic saying there card sucks. As i also said im gonne bench it and test it if it sucks bad luck for FREE game i got with my videocard. Its sad you guys think this topic was a ATTACK agains your believes some how with so much anger towards theif-amd and me maybe?

Jelly. 290x is not noisy at all but offcorse you need a custom card not refferencecard. I got MSI and is quiet and temp in full load around 74-76 celsius and its not over priced eather Im a taffer soon playing Thief
Guest Mogie56 Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 I wouldn't worry much about what is said evasiadutch, it only shows how little is known. and usually what ever is bitched about AMD/ATI can be said about Nvidia, Intel, etc. etc. If you like the game then that is all that matters, if your pleased with the performance of your card then that is all that matters. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on them both, I mean that is what this thread is for no? Sadly I never played the original Thief, and I doubt my old HD-4890 would play the newest one. So I will look forward to your review

...0... Posted February 24, 2014 Author Posted February 24, 2014 Totalbuscuit review for PC master race https://www.youtube.com/user/TotalHalibut Watch it if you have any doubs how complex this is for PC game superb port options are enormous which console players won't have. Rock paper shotgun review. IT'S GOOD! http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2014/02/24/thief-review/
Angrybird Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Doesn't seem terrible but yeah anyone who enjoyed the previous ones probably won't like it. The usual.
jxm Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Thief? Never played the first two, but greatly enjoyed the third one (the atmosphere is...awesome, not just the Cradle, but everything)... But the new one...well...there is always a Steam Sale one the horizon, and maybe for under ten Euro at the end of the year I might take a look. Got to finish Deus Ex and Dishonored first though (and from what I read, these two might have more in common with the new Thief than the older thief-games....)
Vaelorian Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Game's not my cup of tea. I understand the idea of having an "artistic vision", but they let it get in the way of having multiple ways to play the game; the originals had a better combat system which allowed the player to be an assassin of sorts. That option is missing from this one, as the combat is not quite as satisfying and definitely not as effective. Also, the levels are too small for my taste. Oh, and I suppose you could call me an "nvidia fan".
...0... Posted February 25, 2014 Author Posted February 25, 2014 First player experience pooring in on steam forums right now and GUES WHAT? Many like it they feel HOME. Im glad hearing this and with TOTALBISCUIT video review plus rockpapersissorshotgun review both true pc gamers i knew it would be ok.
Guest xthejester Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 The first two Thief games brought me back into video gaming. I was a console kid who stopped giving a shit around the time of PS1. I'd played the obligatory DOOM on my crappy old IBM Aptiva, and even got the NIN/Porn mods for it. But I just wasn't loving PC gaming at that point, and I was still pretty young, living on my own, video games were a luxury item I was just fine living without. Working full time, and going to school full time didn't really leave me with much spare time to play game either. One weekend, I was at a friend's house party. Around 4a.m. the party people were pretty much all either moving on or passing out. Being the goddamn dynamo I was at that age, I was neither tired, nor interested in ditching out. I wandered up to the loft where my pal had set up his PC, and saw him playing a 1st person game of some sort. Only instead of Aliens and a plasma rifle, it was a couple of Medieval look soldiers talking to each other about going to the "Bear Pits". I sat there and watched him play for a while before I asked what game that was. He tossed me the box, which I read. He then quit out and announced he was going to crash, and I was welcome to hop on and start playing if I'd like. It was already noon by the time I couldn't keep my eyes open anymore. On the way home, I swung by Best Buy and picked up the game for myself. After that..I learned to make time.
Mumin Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Ooooh, the old Thief trilogy are among my favorite games! A pity it seems they have butchered a lot of the good stuff from them I probably pick it up when it goes on sale.
Angrybird Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 The guys at GaintBomb sound way negative about the game(console version) http://www.giantbomb.com/videos/quick-look-thief/2300-8541/
Bloodfang Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 I think it's mainly due to the fact there are many Assassin's Creed/Dishonored (inspired by old Thief series...oooh irony) fans, some saying fights were difficult... but if you're engaged in a fight in Thief, it means you have failed whereas in AC/Dishonored you can just kill them all. Also all these reviews came up in like less than a day, so they just have a superficial part of the game reviewed. Another reason why I don't fully trust them but simply youtube videos showcasing gameplay. By the way, there's one that shows clearly many things the game has to offer (1h gameplay). Most negative reviews feel like some troll, masochist Garrett, bad voice-actor for Garrett (really?? Obviously they have no clue about it and are raging because it's not Russell anymore), clown outfit etc.. Many kids these days believe reviewers way too much, giving them too much credit. When I see some of them giving games like Call of Duty or any Assassin's Creed marks like 9/10 - 10/10 I find this laughable, because many games that aren't AAA are way better.
...0... Posted March 5, 2014 Author Posted March 5, 2014 Well i enjoy the game even tho many condem it specially those who are stuck in the past or just dont get what they want. I run Thief on 2560x1440 and all ultra settings and have around 50fps avarage its so far smooth play. Ive custom settings for difficulty so all who claims its a easy ripoff it's not. Sure its not first incarnations of thief and it have its flawes but its 2014 and its a rather good console port with ALOT of custom options graphics wise and difficulty wise which consoles don't have. For me Thief was worth buying. It's -8.0/10 overall but the graphics settings and dificulty settings i give 9/10. This my personal opinion about the game others prolly say its crap but i don't care
Aztec1010 Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 To be honest, I've played the game and I've liked it. I've always liked sneaky sneaky games. I do recommend it to anyone whos into that type of gameplay. And my God, I've played asylum mission at 2 a.m., Amnesia flashbacks all the way...
Cynical Misanthrope Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 I wasn't home when the game were released, so picked it up yesterday. And so far I like it. The option to customize your gameplay is a big win for me. And not to mention all the other options that you can poke around with. Since I am a console-fascist, I must say this port is really well done. Extremely well done infact. Not that I bash on consoles per say, but almost every game today is made for consoles, and pc-users gets often crappy ports. Just because it's much cheaper that way. Really insulting... I can't really say much about the story yet, since I haven't gotten that far into the game. All I know is, if I get discovered, I have failed. And that's how it should be. This is not an "assassin" game. You goal is not to to murder ppl. You goal is to steal shiny stuff undetected. Anyway, game gets a thumbs up from me.
...0... Posted March 18, 2014 Author Posted March 18, 2014 Thief Mantle today! Newest AMD BETA driver 14.3 get it here;http://support.amd.com/en-us Clean un install utillity:http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/AMD-Clean-Uninstall-Utility.aspx
...0... Posted March 18, 2014 Author Posted March 18, 2014 New MANTLE PATCH NOTES. I have a intel CPU OC 3770k so i only have little improvement. At MAX ULTRA settings i win 7 fps more with mantle then DX11. 35min fps now 41fps avarage 40.5 now 48 max 60.8 now 68 fps. But its well known mantle help lower CPU's/system most with mantle. Some had a improvement of 15 to 20 fps. Just tested on 1920x1080 but im affraid have not tested this before so i can only what i got for score now seems not bad. Mantle: min 58.3 fps max 97.6 fps ava 72 fps DX 11: min 50.7 fps max 60.5 fps ava 57.9 fps This windowed MAX settings both same settings. Seems mantle proofs its better performance!!!
